Nui Mediators Promoting Fairness and Hope by Hilary Graham (LtPM Programme Coordinator) 2018
It’s the second year Taupo-nui-a-Tia College have been involved in the Leadership through Peer Mediation programme with The Peace Foundation. As a part of the College Wellbeing focus Peer Mediators need to be accessible to other students who wanted to chat. They needed to have the skills and confidence, yet know clearly their own boundaries regarding safe conversations and when to ask for help. Their daily presence promotes the Colleges Cornerstone Values - respect, consideration kindness and concern. They also promote fairness and create a safe, inclusive culture. A junior student recently wrote about his friendship with a peer mediator: "He is very kind and nice to others. In school when I meet him we have lots of fun talking"
