Portobello, Dunedin TOWNSHIP LOCATION

OTAGO PENINSULA MUSEUM

Portobello is a village beside the Otago Harbour halfway along the Otago Peninsula in Dunedin City, New Zealand. It lies at the foot of a small peninsula between Portobello Bay and Latham Bay. Like scores of Dunedin features, Portobello was named after a locality in Edinburgh, Scotland also called Portobello.

The Otago Peninsula Museum was started by local people in 1974, with a small room in the Portobello Coronation Hall used to display photographs and historical items. In 1986 the Museum was opened in its present site. The main office building and display room was built and an original settler’s cottage from Portobello was donated. A replica barn was built to house farm machinery and equipment collected from locals and the surrounding countryside.

LOCAL ACTIVITIES ROYAL ALBATROSS CENTRE The Royal Albatross Centre is a polished visitor experience with a detailed chronology of the albatross’s life and the perils facing these magnificent ocean birds. There is a well stocked visitor gift shop and adjoining cafe. SCENIC FERRY CRUSIES Scenic Ferry Cruises between Portobello, Port Chalmers and across Otago Harbour, Cross the Otago Harbour in style and comfort with a ferry transfer on Port-To-Port Cruises & Wildlife Tours’ boat MV Sootychaser. Whether you’re visiting cafes, picnicking at Back Beach, visiting local sites or just want to go for a cruise, catching the ferry is a great way to get you where you need to go.

WHAT KYLIE’S CLIENTS SAY…

“We recently sold our house in Wanaka after having it listed with several different agencies. Kylie Stewart was so easy to work with and handled some difficult negotiations very professionally. She went out of her way and beyond her call of duty to make things happen. She was also very helpful after the contract had been signed and sealed and helped us with organising cleaning and furniture removal. This was so helpful to us as we live a long way from Wanaka. I thoroughly recommend Kylie as an agent because she is very professional and in her quiet manner makes things happen without being pushy. She was a pleasure to work with. Thank you Kylie.” KYLIE STEWART +64 21 288 7187 kylie.stewart@nzsir.com NEW ZEALAND SOTHEBY’S INTERNATIONAL REALTY 39
