did not disappoint for innovative products on show. Occasionally, one wonders why some have stands, but not this year. At more than one interview, I had to refocus on what I was being told, as my brain struggled to take in the really clever developments being presented. It almost makes paying $500 per night for an average hotel worthwhile, but it did mean packing everything into 2 days of intense interviewing. We bring you ARRI first of all, but they were not the only ones to have wowed the crowds and me alike. Read on. Ed
ARRI Cameras & more We are on the ARRI camera stand with Forest Liu. Ed: So Forest, you’re the camera person for the AsiaPacific region and if Brett Smith has any questions, he comes to you? Forest: Yes, pretty much. Ed: Anyway, we’re here at IBC and Forest is going to show us some new things that have happened with ARRI in the camera line since NAB. Forest: We see ourselves as a tool manufacturer, so we want to build the tool that is best for cinematographers and creative filmmakers who want to create art, create images that really inspire people, obviously entertain people as well. To do that, we go about it saying “okay so what technology do we have, what’s available to us and how can we make something that is useful and valuable to our users?” We’re not so much thinking in terms of “oh there’s a price range where we could make some money” – it’s very different. We really want to create this for them because they’re the filmmakers that we aspire maybe to be at some point. Ed: And in that vein, the new product line, the SXT … and what’s that for the uninitiated? Forest: Basically, the ALEXA came out back in 2012 – this is our first kind of bigger digital camera that we released. We did have the D20 and the D21 before that,
