Welcome to the performing arts at Oaks Christian School where artistic expression is alive and flourishing. We have a wonderful season of amazing and compelling events ahead! Our dedicated faculty and staff understand that students do not just perform – they are transformed and transform others by the expression of their gifts in music, dance and theatre. Our students are encouraged and challenged daily to create, explore and discover at a level of professionalism beyond their years. As they do so, they reflect back their inherent Imago Dei – the creative stamp of Creator God imbued in their own natures. It is MARY KAY ALTIZER my hope that as you attend any one of our events this Performing Arts Department Chair season, you will be uplifted and inspired by the beauty of song, the power of drama, or elegance of dance.
ANNA WADMAN Visual Arts Department Chair
Different than the written or spoken word, visual arts is a unique way of communicating. At Oaks Christian, our visual arts students are budding storytellers through the mediums of pencil, chalk, paints, clay and cameras. Our program is designed to give each student top-notch exposure to both the how and why of art-making. We nurture creativity, encourage production, refine skills and point students toward the Creator and a heart for service. Our goal is to help students develop their Godgiven talents and creativity so they can serve and bless others (1 Peter 4:10). I encourage you to attend any one of exhibits this year and experience first-hand the amazing gifts of our visual artists. Come see for yourself why OCS student-artists are often showcased in our community and win accolades (and honors) at regional and national competitions.

ABOUT
OAKS CHRISTIAN SCHOOL
We are a non-denominational, co-ed, college-preparatory school serving grades 5 through 12. Oaks Christian has seen impressive growth in both enrollment and state-of-the art facilities since its founding in 2000 through the generosity of David Price and Dallas Price-Van Breda. Our mission statement is “To dedicate ourselves to Christ in the pursuit of academic excellence, artistic expression and athletic distinction while growing in knowledge and wisdom through God’s abundant grace.” OCS’ artistic expression is evidenced through the numerous honors and accolades our programs have received. Visual arts students have had pieces in juried exhibits such as the Artists Guild San Diego Museum of Art, Ventura County’s “Hang with the Best” art showcase and the Agoura Hills Cultural Arts Council and Westlake Village Art Guild student exhibits. Our performing arts have been nominated and won in different categories at the prestigious Jerry Herman Awards, the highest level of awards for high school musicals. OCS thespians have also won trophies from the Drama Teachers Association of Southern California, an annual competition featuring over 2,000 students from Southern California. Theatre arts has earned numerous awards at the Annual Youth Arts Awards. Academically, an impressive 99% of OCS graduates receive college admission, often to highlyselective, top-tier schools. Collectively, the Class of 2016 earned over $7 million in college scholarships and aid, and performed over 15,000 hours of community service in nine countries and California. The high school athletic program hosts 22 sports and 48 school teams: teams have earned 141 league titles, 39 CIF titles, and seven California state titles. Middle school athletics has also won several league titles and boasts student sport participation rates as high as 92 percent. The International Student Boarding Program sponsors over 50 students from seven countries. The OC Learning Center provides tutoring and test-preparation for OCS students and also to local, public schools.
