bscurae Hello ladies how are you all doing today? Ladies Fabulous! Obscurae What brought you all together? Ladies he darkness lol Obscurae Who brought up the concept of this shoot? Ladies Laura had the dresses from Darkspectre and I had these amazing shoes from Zombie Peepshow and we just went with it. Obscurae, Zombie Peepshow, did you make the shoes for this speciic shoot or did you have them already made? Zombie Peepshow hese two designs were a part of our 2018 Halloween Collection. Moon also modeled one of them in our Rabbit in Red production last Spring. Obscurae, Laura Dark, how did you pre plan for this shoot? It was kind of a spare-of-the-moment shoot. Laura We didn’t really plan a whole lot for it. I had the wardrobe from Darkspectre and XLCR Moon had borrowed the shoes from Peepshow and it just sort of fell together. Obscurae Magazine, Xlcr Moon, what steps did you take to deliver a great shot through out the shoot? XLCR Moon Just always trying to be mindful of the mood we’re creating and showing of the designs. Obscurae Have you ladies worked together before? XLCR Moon Yes several times! Obscurae What diiculties did you overcome with this shoot? XLCR Moon No real diiculties from my side. Obscurae What was your favorite part about the whole shoot, concept, idea? XLCR Moon I love any shoot I get to do thats dark and beautiful! Obscurae, Zombie Peep Show, can you share with us more about your work? Zombie Peep Show We’re an Austin based design company specializing in wearable shoe art. he two pieces from this shoot are our Morticia and Exploited designs. Morticia has layered black lace, assorted red crystal, and hand cast pieces. Exploited is an extreme punk design with sculpted skull and steel spike Mohawk. Obscurae, Zombie Peep Show, how do you construct your designs? Zombie Peep Show I currently have 2 design assistants. I have a background in chemistry, and make my own bonding materials. We use a combination of metal, industrial strength sculpting, and fabrics/embellishments to create each design by hand. Obscurae, Zombie Peep Show, can you tell us how your day to day works? Zombie Peep Show My design assistants, who are also my sisters Kyndra and Brooke, work with me in my studio every day. A typical work week for me is 60-80 hours, we ship anywhere from 40-70 orders a month all over the world. Construction on each pair usually takes a few days with curing time, so we work on them in stages. Obscurae, Zombie Peep Show, did you have any designers that inspired you? I’m not particularly inspired by fashion designers, but rather music, ilm, and performance art. Anything extreme always catches my eye, and the ability to take something normal then transform it into wearable art inspires me. Obscurae, Zombie Peep Show, how did you come about designing? I was studying for dental school, then began making pieces for myself and friends to help with tuition. Slowly my designs grew in popularity so I decided to open a store. Once the Internet and videos got involved things moved very quickly. Obscurae, Laura Dark, can you tell us about your photography? Laura I’m an avant garde conceptual and beauty photographer located in Columbus, Ohio. I have a full service studio with wardrobe, props, and a hair and makeup salon inside it. We do mostly

regular everyday people shoots. I shoot a lot of boudoir, pinup, and Gothic sessions. Obscurae, Laura Dark, how do you usually do your shoots? Laura Typically I plan out the shoot ahead of time with my client through the booking process. We have a form that everyone ills out that asks for inspiration photos. his helps the makeup and hair team during their processes and also helps us plan the day accordingly. Obscurae, Laura Dark, how does your day to day usually work? Laura My studio operates Wednesday thru Sunday so I am usually shooting from 10am till 5pm throughout those days and then editing on Mondays and Tuesdays. We service around 40 to 50 people a month in the studio and so it keeps us really busy. It’s pretty rare for me to get time to do fun things like editorial work, which I enjoy a lot. Obscurae, Laura Dark, did anyone in the photography ield inspire you? Laura Not the photography ield but in art in general I am a big fan of Michael Parkes. He is a surreal artist and his work is pretty amazing. If you haven’t checked out, be sure to look him up. Obscurae, Laura Dark, can you tell us how you came about photography? Laura I started out in high school as a yearbook and newspaper photographer. I loved it. I went to college for art but decided that I wasn’t going in the direction I wanted so I let to persue photography with a local photographer as a mentor. I was with their studio for 2 years before breaking of on my own and opening my own space. I’ve been shooting now for around 25 years. Obscurae, XLCR Moon, can you share with us more about your work? XLCR Moon I do a wide range of genres and styles. From glamour and fashion to horror to ine art. Obscurae, XLCR Moon, how do you get prepared for your modeling? XLCR Moon I guess I’ve been doing this so long there’s no real preparation I do other than showing up with extra options and back ups, able to do my own hair and makeup when needed and going with the low. Obscurae, XLCR Moon, can you tell about your day to day work? XLCR Moon A lot of modeling “work” is spent on the computer networking and booking shoots or tours. A lot of driving to and from shoots and a lot of makeup time. Obscurae, XLCR Moon, did anyone in the modeling industry inspire you? XLCR Moon More music and movie inspiration than models, but Gothic Beauty magazine was a big reason why modeling peaked my interest. Obscurae, XLCR Moon, how did you get into modeling? XLCR Moon It fell into my lap from me doing ilm photography in high school. Another girl in school said I should try modeling. Me being a Gothic tomboy at the time thought she was crazy. She sent pics of me to a photographer friend of hers he contacted me we shot, then a bunch of other photographers started reaching out to me. It just kind of spiraled from there. Obscurae, Darkspectre, What made you want to be a designer? Darkspectre he lack of quality clothing in the style that I personally would wear is what drove me. I wanted a certain look (we tend to call it RomantiGoth) but I wanted items that were functional and less costumey if you know what I mean. While yes... these are one of a kind items... they are well made using historical design combined with modern day construction. And I don’t skimp on the trims and extras either! Obscurae, Darkspectre, Did you have any inspiration that drew you to the designs you do today? Darkspectre Mostly cinema. he historical designers costuming for ilm inspire me daily. I can’t actually watch a period piece without trying to snap pics of the glorious gowns in the ilms to scrutinize later. And I’m an

inherent geek so if you think something I did looks possibly Star Wars inspired.... or like Bellatrix LeStrange would wear it... odds are I had that in mind when I created the piece.

knit...but I igured it out. Obscurae, Darkspectre, What tools do you normally use for your designs?

Obscurae, Darkspectre, Did you have a designer that inspired you to do the designs you do today? Darkspectre If I were to say I was a design fan-girl...It would be the late Eiko Ishioka I would follow happily into the abyss. She was the designer for all of the costumes in Bram Stoker’s Dracula and someone to aspire to. If she could imagine it...She could bring it to life. I tend to design the same way. Obscurae, Darkspectre, What is your general day of designing like? Darkspectre I start with a picture in my head. I have a detail-oriented imagination... and so once I can “see” what it is I want to achieve I begin to reverse engineer it... all between my ears. I’m not an artist on paper by any means... but I’ll lay down some rough sketch work and jot notes regarding my thoughts on design elements and colors so I don’t forget where I was going with it later. Next I source my materials and lastly, drat out my design. hen it’s time for the easy part. Construction of the design. When it’s right it just “lows” right out of my hands. Obscurae, Darkspectre, How long does the design process normally take you? Darkspectre It can take me an hour....it can take me weeks. It really depends on the direction I’m going and then what medium I’m working with. I have used chain maille, fabric, latex, cast forms, metal strapping, etc, in my designs. I even used pool noodles once! It just depends on what vision I’m trying to achieve. Obscurae, Darkspectre, Where do you usually get your materials for your designs? Darkspectre I source EVERYWHERE. he Internet, locally, thrit stores, you name it. I primarily use the Internet to source items these days but it’s not unheard of for me to also custom dye or detail fabric to achieve my goals. I’ve even knitted trim by hand to achieve a certain look. And I don’t

Darkspectre Everything and anything. I was a soldier once...I think my experience doing that makes it easy for me to think outside the box. I’ve used bench grinders and wood burners as tools for my trade... and an army of sewing machines to boot. I use whatever I have to get where I need to be. My toolbox is a little crazy-looking! Obscurae, Darkspectre, How long did it take to do the dress that XLCR Moon is wearing in the photos? Darkspectre It took me 5 days to create the silk set she’s wearing in the images. From sketch to completed project. But I put in heavy hours when I work. I’m very good at staying on task. Obscurae, Darkspectre, Do you have any tips for new designers? Darkspectre Stop talking about it and just do it. You have the greatest resources right at your ingertips encased in plastic with a glowing screen. Look at Youtube tutorials and other designers websites. Find what makes you passionate and roll forward with that! Look at theatrical and historical design as well... because historical design is the roots of everything we wear to this day. Start with designing something for a sibling or a friend and go from there. All of the fundamentals are the same... once you have those down you can build of of that knowledge and expand it to suit your needs. Don’t be afraid to join up with other seamstress to learn things. Sometimes the most basic class or intro will launch you down the path you seek.
