Westenburg land invasion kicks off
From page 1 entrance of Westenburg from the Matlala Road on Tuesday, a large crowd of prospective home owners were gathered on the site where five shacks were already built. Martha Verveen, who claims to be an EFF member, was busy compiling a list of names and telephone numbers of people to be allocated stands. Further on another lady was reading out the names of people that registered on Monday, requesting them not to register again. According to a source on site, Jossey Buthane, Provincial Secretary of the EFF, addressed the crowd just after lunch on Tuesday. Polokwane Observer recently reported that EFF Secretary General, Godrich Gardee, in an exclusive interview confirmed that the EFF will support landless communities as and when they occupied unused land. “When you identify unoccupied land, unused land, land lying fallow for over a long time and then we have landless people who are staying in residential areas like rats and animals. Then they must go and occupy that unoccupied land, unused land,” he said. Ezekiel Adams, a resident of Westenburg, told Polokwane Observer that he does not

want the EFF there. Owen Kemp, a resident from New Pietersburg, said that he supports the EFF and wants a home. “The ANC has given me nothing and I want a job as well,” he said. Percy Adams does not support the land invasion and says that there are legal ways to obtain a home. “The EFF gave people the right to grab the land and we do not want them here,” he reckons. Daniel Nelson wants to live near Westenburg because of the safety of the area and the proximity of schools and public amenities such as a police station. Tidimalo Chuene, Communications and Marketing Manager of the municipality, commented as follows: “The municipality is aware of the unauthorised land occupation that has been taking place at Extension 40, along the Matlala road near Westernburg. Stakeholder engagements and consultations are underway towards an amicable solution to the issue. The municipality will issue a statement as soon as all the immediate legal and relevant land use related processes are satisfied”. Buthane could not be reached for comment at time of going to print.

Bad blood among taxi kings From page 1 the feared assassinations. In an interview with Polokwane Observer, a local taxi owner shared details of an industry often bogged down by perceptions of raging rivalry and habitual dangerous driving. He hinted at a dangerous Catch 22 on Limpopo’s roads, given impetus by examples of illegal operators hell-bent on profit-making and seemingly willing to pay bribes to alleged corrupt traffic cops apparently believed to accumulate additional income by bribing law-breakers. Initially he turned to Polokwane Observer with information about suspicious conduct attributed to traffic officials impounding his vehicle at a roadblock en route to Nobody last Thursday, despite his driver being in possession of a temporary permit or operating licence valid until 5 May 2015. It had cost him R5 000 to get his vehicle back and R1 500 in a fine imposed on his driver for failing to produce a valid operating licence, he emphasised. The source provided a copy of

a temporary licence, seemingly issued by the Capricorn District Office of the Department of Transport in Lebowakgomo. According to him he had initially bought an operating licence for R10 000 from someone in 2009, having to go to Lebowakgomo every three months to obtain a temporary permit or operating licence free of charge thereafther. All along he had been informed that only temporary operating licences and no permanent permits were being issued, he said. Despite possessing a temporary operating licence valid until 5 May 2015, his vehicle got impounded, he complained. He was informed that his driver was supposed to have been in possession of a permanent operating licence, the source explained. It was learnt that he was indeed issued with a permanent document last week. The taxi owner ascribed the conduct to rivals, within the regulating taxi association he belonged to, calling in favours from their friends in the Department of Transport to get the vehicles of their opponents off the road. He explained he was part of a team that drove out officials of their taxi association allegedly in cahoots with unregistered taxi operators with a campaign banning them from their area last year. Currently close to 500 registered taxis were operating on the line, whereas they managed to get rid of 70 unregistered vehicles on the road with the campaign. He expressed the belief that taxi operators on the team were mainly being targeted. He continued sharing insight of what he called a bad industry, made worse by moneyhungry “office workers” who could afford to own taxis but robbed operators who solely depended on it for a source of income. He described it as a very tough industry, conceding to the fact that taxi drivers have a foul reputation, providing the reason that they were competing for passengers. “It’s all about the money.” When their taxis are full they don’t drive as if the world is coming to an end, it was learnt. He further confirmed what is generally perceived an open secret. “Traffic cops love taxi drivers, because they get their daily bread from them.” An ill-natured traffic official could easily pocket R1 000 a day from soliciting R100 bribes from taxi drivers, who paid to avoid a fine, according to the source. Transport Department Spokesperson Kagiso Mootane commented by saying an internal investigation had been launched into allegations of licences being issued fraudulently at the departmental Capricorn District Office in Lebowakgomo after complaints received the past few weeks. After the allegations had been brought to the department’s attention, the decision was taken to issue permanent operating licences, she added. Addressing the allegations around the impoundment of the taxi owner’s vehicle at the roadblock, she raised the opinion that if a vehicle had been impounded it was due to the driver operating with a fraudulent licence or on the wrong route. She was of the opinion that taxi operators had to be briefed on changes in legislation by their respective associations. She agreed that it was expected that operators in the Mankweng area might not have been informed about the conversion in licences due to the ongoing battle within the association, as alleged by the source. To the sweeping statement of alleged bribery by traffic cops, she said members of the public should report such offences to the toll-free hotline number 0800 00 66 94.
Nirvana murder: ‘Give him bail, we want him outside’ RC MYBURGH >>rc.observer@gmail.com

irvana residents and other protesters made their feelings towards murder accused, Rameez Patel clear during the court proceedings on Tuesday. Patel is suspected of fatally shooting his wife, Fatima on 10 April. Residents were adamant that Patel be given bail in order for him to be dealt with by the community. Others suggested that rotting in jail may be the best sentence for him. Joining them at court were members of the African National Congress Women’s League (ANCWL), ANC Youth League (Ancyl), Young Communist League of South Africa (YCLSA) and members of Congress of South African Students (Cosas). Ancyl Provincial Spokesperson Onicca Moloi prior to the hearing said: “We oppose any form of violence against women and children. We want to mobilise young people to rise up and ensure that our society is free of gender based violence. This is our own Oscar Pistorius case and it is a
pure example of what some women are exposed to,” Moloi said. Because of the interest in the case it was supposed to be heard first thing in the morning but when the case only started after 11:00, state prosecutor Mark von Dronik argued that he was not prepared for the case as he was only handed the docket about an hour before the proceedings commenced. Defence attorney Stefanie Fourie said her client was arrested six days after the incident and first appeared in court on 17 April. “The state had six days to prepare for the bail application. My client is getting frustrated. His three children already have to grow up without a mother and now their father is also absent,” she argued. Magistrate Mohamed Shaik gave the state until 14:00 on the day to prepare for the bail application. To this instruction Von Dronik argued that Shaik might be biased in his decision because of possible relations with the two families. Shaik made it clear that even though he became emotional during Patel’s first court appearance,

his decision and judgement will not be affected by his emotions. Shaik clarified that the case evoked events in his childhood which caused his emotions. “I am human. I also cry when I watch movies. If you pinch me, I hurt too. I am human,” Shaik said and ruled that the state is not able to prove that the court’s decision will be partial. Fourie also confirmed that neither Rameez nor his deceased wife knew Shaik. Patel’s affidavit was read to the court by Fourie who clearly indicated that Patel has no reason to flee and that he has no previous or pending cases against him. The state wanted to call the investigating officer to the stand but indicated that the court would not be able to complete the bail application before end of day. Shaik asked for a meeting with council in the judge’s chamber. Court then proceeded and he ruled the case to be postponed to 4 May in order for the state to produce evidence. Patel remains in custody. Shaik warned that court will start on time and 7 May was also reserved should they also not complete the bail application on the day.
Fuel station robbery suspects linked to more cases RC MYBURGH >>rc.observer@gmail.com While a crammed courtroom listened to proceedings in the case against Rameez Patel who is accused of shooting his wife on 10 April, elsewhere in the same building three of six suspects allegedly involved in one of South Africa’s biggest crime syndicates yet, appeared for their alleged involvement in two recent armed robberies at fuel stations in the city. First accused and possibly the mastermind behind the syndicate, Kleintjie Bapela and co-accused Thabelo Mokwena and Jan Matjila are described as very dangerous and will appear in court again on 8 May facing charges of armed robbery and ATM bombing. Bapela’s attorney, Frik Swart told Polokwane Observer that the six men are allegedly part of a bigger syndicate responsible for various armed robberies and ATM bombings across the country. “They have pending cases which vary from armed robbery, ATM bombing, motor vehicle theft, house breaking and business robbery against them. These cases are reported in Mafikeng, Mokopane, Polokwane (3) and Gauteng (4),” Swart said, adding that Bapela might become a state witness as Police confirmed that he has cooperated well since his arrest. Polokwane awakened to the news of an two armed robberies and ATM bombings at fuel stations in the city on 20 April when six armed men in a BMW got away with undisclosed amounts of money in each incident. Provincial Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola straightway ordered the establishment of a task team to handle the case. “The task team gathered information and the investigation started with a massive manhunt for the six suspects,” Provincial Police Spokesperson Ronel Otto said.
Within 72 hours Police were hot on their trail and succeeded in the arrest of the trio in Pretoria. Police confiscated the BMW allegedly used as getaway vehicle,
seven firearms which include four pistols and three rifles and cash. Swart said R59 000 in cash was found in the BMW. The search for the remaining three is still on.

Waste of R16 million in taxpayers’ monies
>> Expression of shock at dilapidation witnessed as stateof-the-art school is vandalised >> Department of Education blamed for not having house in order YOLANDE NEL >>observer.yolande@gmail.com
Three and a half years after world class Lebaka B Primary School in Mohlabaneng Village in the Ga-Sekgopo area en route to Giyani was supposedly completed, it has seemingly fallen victim to vandals. And so R16 million in taxpayers’ monies have allegedly gone down the drain. The state of affairs was brought to Polokwane Observer’s attention by Democratic Alliance (DA) Parliamentarian and Deputy Provincial Chairperson Solly Malatsi who recently conducted an oversight visit to the institution. He afterwards expressed shock at the dilapidation witnessed as a state-ofthe-art school was being vandalised. The oversight visit revealed that the furniture, the fittings and the actual structure had been damaged, stolen and tampered with, he indicated. According to Malatsi it seemed as if construction of the entire facility had been completed and the administration block and classrooms furnished. He referred to a dispute between the contractor and department having an impact on the opening of the facility. From a photo of a signpost on the premises it is clear that the contract period for the project ran from 3 November 2010 to 3 October 2011. Calling it a disgrace, Malatsi said the Department of Education should be embarrassed by the fact that there were schools that remained unoccupied and vandalised simply because the department hadn’t got its house in order. “It shows yet another classic example of mismanagement of education by the African National Congress (ANC) government in Limpopo.” Malatsi called on the acting MEC for Education, Jerry Ndou to take immediate action to ensure the facility, built to cater for an initial overflow at Lebaka A Primary School on the other side of the village, would be ready for use by the community at the start of the last school quarter. Several attempts to obtain comment from the spokesperson for the Department of Education were unsuccessful.

or many people winter is synonymous with influenza or flu, a time when any cough or ache could lead to weeks of misery and suffering. The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NCID) describes flu as an acute viral respiratory infection, transmitted by the influenza virus of which there are many strains. The flu viruses are typically in circulation in the winter months in South Africa with an average start in the first week of June, although this varies.

The flu virus spreads through droplets when infected people talk, cough or sneeze, and these are inhaled by others. Droplets that have landed on surfaces are transmitted when people touch these surfaces and then their mouths, noses or eyes. The patient is usually contagious one day before showing symptoms and up to seven days after the first symptoms started. Most South African medical aid schemes have sent out warnings to their members, warning them about the dangers of flu and recommending flu vaccines. Several different strains of flu viruses are in circulation each year. To protect people from infection, the National Institute of 18/2015 Allergy and Infectious Diseases laboratories in the US continually update and develop new vaccines. Cause: The rhinovirus is responsible for 50% of colds, while any one of five other viruses can be responsible for the rest. The flu is caused by the influenza virus, with Type A influenza viruses responsible for most epidemics. never too late to be vaccinated. “It is better to be vaccinated later in the flu season, than not at all,” was his advice. Influenza is a dangerous disease and can lead to serious complications and even death. Although many people fear that the flu vaccine could actually make them sick, Vorster reassures sceptics that this is not possible. Flu viruses used in shots are inactive and cannot cause infection. “Patients may experience some symptoms, but only on rare occasions,” he says. Vorster says that, although the flu vaccine cannot offer 100% protection against all types of flu, the patient will definitely benefit. In a press statement the NCID also stresses this point, saying that even when vaccinated people do contract the flu, they will present with less severe symptoms and fewer complications. Vorster further explains that healthy people need only be vaccinated once every year, as early as possible, but high risk patients may need two per year. He says it is up to the individual’s physician to decide how many shots are needed for optimum protection. The World Health Organisation (Who) warned that South Africans must prepare for a particularly vicious flu season with several serious strains of this virus making the rounds. During the recent flu season in the Northern Hemisphere, this year’s flu shot was only 23% effective. Vorster says that no guarantee can be given that the vaccine will protect a person, but reiterates that it is better to have some protection than none at all. Recent national news reports warned that people should make sure that they receive the most recent flu vaccine, because it varies from year to year. Vorster says patients should check the packaging of the vaccine to see if it was manufactured in 2015.

sneezing. Congestion is rare in flu patients. Muscle aches: Patients who suffer from a cold do not suffer from muscle aches, but patients with the flu often experience severe muscle aches. Onset: A cold takes a few days to develop from that familiar and dreaded “tickle in the throat” to a full-blown cold. The onset of flu symptoms is so quick that some patients can pinpoint the specific hour when they started to feel ill. impopo Police were out in full force since the start of the long weekend and made several arrests which include eight people allegedly responsible for xenophobic attacks in Thabazimbi and another eight in connection with rhino poaching. Police also managed to apprehend three suspects in connection with the recent fuel station robberies. See story elsewhere. Cycler killed by giraffe Police in Bela-Bela are investigating the death of a man who was allegedly killed by a giraffe while he was cycling at the Thaba Monate Game Lodge on Sunday. According to Provincial Police Spokesperson Ronel Otto hikers discovered the body of the cyclist and a post mortem will be conducted during the week to determine the cause of his death. The deceased is from Nigel, Gauteng. Looting of foreign-owned shops Eight people allegedly responsible for the looting of foreign-owned shops in Thabazimbi on Monday evening were expected to appear in the Thabazimbi Magistrate’s Court yesterday (Wednesday). “Violence erupted on Monday at around 23:00 when four foreignowned shops were broken into, looted and one was set on fire. Public order policing unit
was deployed to the area to monitor the situation,” Otto said. Unrest at Medupi On Tuesday Police were called out to Medupi power station near Lephalale where some workers allegedly attempted to block the road. Otto denied previous reports of striking Medupi workers. “We cannot confirm that they were striking, but there were allegations of people attempting to block the road. Police were deployed to the scene to monitor the situation. No arrests were made,” Otto said. Up for 37 cases of rape Meanwhile DNA tests positively linked a 23-year-old man from Bolobedu with 37 cases of rape in the Bolobedu area. “The man was arrested in May last year when he broke into the house of his last victim, which he reportedly overpowered and raped. The victim screamed during the ordeal causing her father to wake up. The suspect fled but the victim’s father gave chase and shot him in the leg,” Otto said. He is expected to appear in the Tzaneen Magistrate’s Court again today (Thursday). Rhino poachers apprehended Eight suspected rhino poachers were also apprehended in separate incidents within the area of Groblers Bridge and Kruger National Park (KNP). In the first incident two suspects were arrested at Groblersbrug border post while trying to sell rhino horn as well as six diamonds. The two, from Zimbabwe and Botswana respectively, are expected to appear in the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. The origin of the items is still being investigated. At Lulekani just outside Phalaborwa, Samuel Mabunda, Climate Mathebula, Chester Malungane and Eric Mandlazi were arrested
and four hunting rifles, ammunition, axes, knives, cellphones and cash were confiscated. They are expected to appear in the Phalaborwa Magistrate’s Court today (Thursday). At KNP close to the Phalaborwa gate two suspects were arrested after being spotted by visitors to the park. “Visitors reported two suspicious men crossing a tar road in the park to rangers of the park. The information was immediately followed up and resulted
Mathabatha salutes freedom fighters HERBERT RACHUENE >>herbert@mailbox.co.za Premier Stan Mathabatha paid homage and extended his heartfelt gratitude to all who put their weight behind the struggle for freedom and democracy while he addressed this year’s provincial Freedom Day Celebrations at Moroke Village in Sekhukhune on Monday. “To all of them we commit ourselves to never take this freedom for granted. We will always remember that this freedom is pillared on their sweat, blood and relentless sacrifices. Today we celebrate because we know the pain of oppression and dominance of one racial group over the other. We truly come from a hopeless and painful past. Apartheid divided our country into two equal parts,” he remarked. He stated that the province was much better than 21 years ago. “Over the past years our government has ensured that over 96% of learners in our province benefit from the No-Fee School Policy. Today in excess of 96% of learners in quintiles 1, 2 and 3, benefit from the National School Nutrition Programme. The government is providing about 20 000 learners with scholar transport. These are some of the many interventions that have led to an increase in our matric pass rate from 38% in 1994 to over 72% in 2014,” Mathabatha said PHOTO: ARCHIVES
Premier Stan Mathabatha.
Against the backdrop of xenophobic attacks which have riddled the country over the past weeks Mathabatha commended the province’s citizens for the exemplary manner in which they have lived and continue to live side by side with the many foreign nationals within its borders. “Our province as gateway to Africa is home to thousands of Zimbabweans, Botswana, Mozambicans, Zambians and a host of other foreign nationals. The economies of most of our towns and villages owe their growth and development to the contribution of foreign nationals. We have teachers in our schools that are from these countries. I must also take an opportunity to salute the various stakeholders in our province who recently organised rallies and demonstrations against xenophobic tendencies,” Mathabatha said.

Two in court for robbery of students
Mogaba Gideon Masokwameng and Samuel Ramollo appeared in the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court last Friday facing charges of house robbery, robbery with a weapon other than a firearm and house breaking. According to the Police Spokesperson in Mankweng, Matimba Maluleke the two men are thought to be responsible for a series of crimes in which University of Limpopo students were robbed of their cell phones and laptops. They were scheduled to appear in court again on Tuesday but the outcome was not known at the time of going to print. Maluleke urged students who were recent victims of such crimes to visit the Police station in order to possibly identify their belongings. According to Tzaneen Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe, Tshepo Selopjane was transporting passengers from Gauteng to Bolobedu. It is alleged that, after he had dropped off all passengers, on his arrival at Ga-Matshwi Village unknown men approached and shot him several times. “The motive behind the killing is not known yet, Taxi related violence cannot be ruled out. has a potential of collapsing system in the province. We therefore demand an immediate end to the Mafia deductions of AET educators’ salaries which must reinstated to what they were getting as of the 1 September 2014. The immediate revocation of the imposed new conditions of service of AET educators pending consultations with unions admitted to the provincial chamber,” Raphasha said. He also added that, in the recent past, they have noted a number of developments from the department that affect adversely conditions of service of their members and education provisioning in the province. “We had on numerous occasions tried to draw his office’s attention towards resolving these issues but our pleas fell on deaf ears,” continued Raphasha. In response Mathabatha said they will attend the issues in the memorandum. “I dont want to make empty promises that all the issues raised in the memorandum will be solved urgently. Some of them are legacy issues but we will give them the necessary attention,” Mathabatha said.
Members of South African Teachers Union (Sadtu) In Limpopo presented a memorandum of demands to Premier Stan Mathabatha on Tuesday after they failed in their efforts to agree on certain issues with acting MEC of Education, Jerry Ndou last year December. Among the issues stipulated in the memorandum is the unilateral downward variation of the conditions of services of Adult Education Training (AET) in the province resulting to their salaries being downgraded from R6 000 to R1 400 a month from 1 September 2014. Further issues are the non-filling of vacant and funded promotional posts by the department; failure by the department to provide a clear cut infrastructure plan to deal with old and dilapidated buildings, which have become a health and security hazard to learners and educators, and the inability of the Premier to appoint the MEC of Education. Sadtu Provincial Secretary, Matome Raphasha said they decided to present their demands to the Premier after they could not be assisted by Ndou. “We have had these problems for a while now and the MEC is aware of them. We are particularly disturbed by the nonchalant and lackadaisical attitude displayed by his office in trying to find solutions PHOTOS: HERBERT RACHUENE to these important A strong message to the Premier from the challenges that teachers.
Extension 109 : ANC stands to lose votes YOLANDE NEL >>observer.yolande@gmail.com The ruling party in Limpopo stands to lose several votes in next year’s local government elections after disgruntled residents of Extension 109 outside Polokwane recently turned to the Democratic Alliance (DA) for assistance with permanent relocation and service delivery issues. According to a representative of the community within the fence bordering with Extension 106, the DA had been approached on assistance in addressing the plight of 27 families within the confined space. The spokesman on behalf of the group claimed they hadn’t received the required assistance from the
African National Congress (ANC) since being relocated there from Disteneng in November 2013. The site is located along the old Seshego road and devoid of proper services. In terms of what they regard as a temporary arrangement they have been waiting for relocation to a permanent yard, identified as Extension 78 along Nelson Mandela Drive, it was learnt during a previous visit. The spokesperson for the group said they had voted ANC because they believed the ruling party would help them, but instead they failed them. Asked about turning to an opposition party for assistance, the representative responded by saying: “If nothing happens, we are not going to vote in 2016.”

olokwane Municipality took a leap towards the realisation of its Integrated Rapid Public Transport System (IRPTS) when a memorandum of agreement (MOA) between the municipality and taxi associations was signed at Bolivia Lodge, last Thursday. The MOA is related to phases 1a, 1 and 2 of the IRPTS and was signed with the Flora Park, Moletjie, Seshego-Polokwane and Westenburg Taxi associations. At the signing ceremony, Executive Mayor Thembi Nkadimeng, said that the IRPTS is aimed at changing the ordinary lives of the citizens and the economy of the City. “It is through its implementation that the affected transport operators will be economically empowered and, more
importantly, transport users will enjoy travelling in a system that is safe, reliable, convenient and affordable. A separate agreement will in due course be entered into with the phase 1a, 1 and 2 bus operators and other affected taxi and bus operators will be incorporated into the system as it unfolds.” Nkadimeng added that the municipality views the affected operators as the determinants of the success of the system and that it is the responsibility of the municipality and taxi associations’ leadership to ensure that they are in the loop of the progress that is made to implement the project. “I am saying this because when decisions are made, as an operator your economic rights are affected. ANC unites one Africa, OBSERVER 13 Cosatu at one with neighbours >> ANC joined by alliance partners, business community, Polokwane City Football Club >> Cosatu engages in symbolic joining of hands with Zimbab wean delegation YOLANDE NEL >>observer.yolande@gmail.com
T
he African National Congress (ANC) in Limpopo united one Africa with a march seeing various partners and citizens from countries on the continent taking a stance on xenophobia and afrophobia on Friday. The ANC in the province was joined by, among others, alliance partners, the business community and representatives of Polokwane City Football Club. As the march got underway, officials of alliance partner Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) in Limpopo was already engaged in the symbolic joining of hands with a Zimbabwean delegation invited to participate in the Chris Hani Brigade political school. Conducted at a venue on the other side of the inner city precinct, the Cosatu initiative included five representatives of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions who were part of a programme envisaged to be concluded towards the end of next year, it was learnt. At the time Rudolph Phala, MEC for Provincial Treasury, was engaged in sharing valuable lessons on political leadership in his presentation on behalf of the ANC.
April 30, 2015
polokwane
Cosatu Provincial Secretary Gerald Twala expressed the hope that the programme would make a contribution towards political development of trade union leaders. Part of an annual national programme, the political school offered 48 delegates from most of the 17 unions represented by the federation in Limpopo and alliance partners an opportunity to engage on relevant issues over a two-day stretch that would occur monthly. Twala indicated that he was among the first intake after initial conceptualisation of the initiative. Through the inclusion of the Zimbabwean delegation they showed commitment to work with trade unions on the African continent, especially in neighbouring countries, said Twala. According to him trade unions in Zimbabwe were struggling in terms of resources and they contributed towards training in order to empower them. Speaking on behalf of the Zimbabwean delegates, Tirivanhu Marimo sketched a picture of stagnation of economic growth in their country. Describing poverty levels as extreme, he said more than 80% of the 14 million-strong population found themselves in dire straits. Workers were not being paid for extensive periods and everyone tried to survive by entering into informal trade to at least make a living, added fellow-unionist Loveness Mashingaidze. According to Marimo the political environment in that country had to be corrected as political ideologies and policies in place had hampered investment. Learners of various schools in and around the city attend the Career Awareness Drive.
Polokwane Municipality creates career awareness BARRY VILJOEN >>barryv.observer@gmail.com The Jack Botes Hall was packed to capacity last Friday when the Polokwane Municipality hosted a Career Awareness Drive that was attended by learners from schools from all over the city and surrounds. In opening the event, Thembi Nkadimeng, Executive Mayor, said that the world is changing every day and that the municipality has responded to embrace this phenomenon by pursuing development in a smart way through its 2030 Smart City Vision “The municipality earlier this year advertised external bursaries and 1 402 applications were received. Bursaries worth more than R2 million were awarded to qualifying young residents. The money was raised from sponsorship and donations from business and other stakeholders who

work with us. The Office of the Executive Mayor continues to champion career awareness to expose our learners to career opportunities and funding institutions. We also have an internship programme where young graduates are recruited and exposed to various working streams in the municipality,” Nkadimeng informed. The Executive Mayor’s Career Awareness Drive is an initiative aimed at empowering Grade 11 and 12 learners from public schools and unemployed youths from disadvantaged and rural communities with the necessary information, knowledge and attributes that are necessary for their future career aspirations. “By exposing learners to careers that respond to the South African economy, the municipality is contributing to government’s New Growth Path (NGP) that aims to meet set targets for scarce and key skills with the emphasis on skills that apply across the economy,” Nkadimeng said. During the event, learners were exposed to critical and scarce skills that are required by the country’s economy and also to opportunities of bursaries and learnership programmes from the municipality, financial institutions and other industries. Nkadimeng concluded to encourage the learners with a quote from an unknown author “No one has ever injured their eyesight by looking at the bright side of life”.

Leda meets Southern African Netherlands Chamber of Commerce BARRY VILJOEN >>barryv.observer@gmail.com The Limpopo Economic Development Agency (Leda) and the Southern African Netherlands Chamber of Commerce (Sanec) held a roundtable discussion at the agency’s offices in Polokwane recently. The purpose of the business roundtable was to share information on a proposed reciprocal mission from Limpopo Province to the Netherlands with the Department of Trade and Industry (the DTI), presentation of key sectors of a Leda/Sanec partnership agreement and the objectives of the mission to the Netherlands, underpinning the agriculture, agro-processing, water technology, renewable energy, transport and smart logistics and tourism in Limpopo. Daphney Chuma, Head of Marketing and Communications of Leda, says that Sanec and Leda presented the mission programme elements and the Department of Trade and Industry presented their support (incentive scheme) behind the trade and investment promotion mission, that is planned to take place from 6 to11.July.
According to Chuma, one of the objectives of the mission is to promote Limpopo’s exportable products to markets in the Netherlands, especially in agriculture, agroprocessing and agri-business with mainly fresh, preserved and dried fruits and nuts, fruit mixtures and juices. This will also include the value-added manufacturing to support the red meat and white meat clusters of Limpopo. Other objectives are to promote Limpopo as an ideal investment destination for Netherlands investors in the identified sectors and to facilitate liaison and twinning between Limpopo Province’s schools of Agriculture and Agricultural Colleges of the Netherlands, for skills exchange and bench-marking with best practices. The Tompi Seleka Agricultural College will be the centre of focus on the Rural Innovation Network Programme that will be run in collaboration with the TPG Academy from the Netherlands. “Site visit to sectors and businesses that have been identified as having potential to do business with Limpopo, such as the Dutch Agro, Food and Technology Sectors (NAFTC) and Dutch Centres of Excellence (CoE) and the Groenhorst College, are planned,” Chuma said.

Ral gets new CFO BARRY VILJOEN >>barryv.observer@gmail.com
R
oads Agency Limpopo (Ral) has last Wednesday welcomed Kgotlo Rabothata to its ranks as the newly appointed Chief Finance Officer. Rabothata is a Chartered Accountant (CA) and now fills the position that had been vacant for more than two years. Rabothata was previously employed by the Auditor-General of South Africa (Agsa) and formed part of Agsa’s team that worked with the United Nations’ Board of Auditors to, inter alia undertake the special UN audit on the peacekeeping mission in Haiti and the Dominican Republic, and also the United Nations Population Fund in New York. “Ral’s 2013/14 audit was adverse and left us at the bottom of the ocean. The audit of 2012/13 returned a disclaimer, which means that we have regressed. Drastic and effective interventions to correct this situation, are required to ensure that Ral moves back to its rightful position of an agency PHOTO: BARRY VILJOEN

that operates in accordance with legislation and sound accounting practices,” Rabothata said to Polokwane Observer during an interview on his second day in office. According to Rabothata, one of the main reasons for adverse audit opinions is the inability of institutions to provide adequate and conclusive replies to management reports from the AG as well as documentation to substantiate transactions. Noncompliance with Supply Chain Management (SCM) regulations is a major reason for adverse audit opinions and operations have to be streamlined to ensure compliance. “Regular engagement with the AG to ensure that the matters raised in the previous audit reports are addressed and corrected, will ensure that recurrences do not occur. “Key staff members will not be allowed to take leave during the audit process to facilitate a free flow of information. “Most positions in Supply Chain Management are filled and the crucial positions of Head of Supply Chain Management and Pro-active Assurance and Internal Controls Manager will be filled soon. This will ensure that Ral will adhere to SCM regulations and improve its internal controls, so that the AG can put reliance on Ral’s internal controls,” Rabothata said. The new CFO looks forward to his first 100 days in office in which he plans to obtain first hand knowledge of the agency’s projects and the activities of all its staff and contractors. Besides being in office, Rabothata balances his work life by cycling on weekends.
Aganang concludes IDP/Budget consultations BARRY VILJOEN >>barryv.observer@gmail.com The month long IDP/Budget consultations with the community and stakeholders of Aganang Municipality were concluded last Thursday. The consultations, which were held across all villages in Aganang were specifically designed to assist the municipality to identify the needs of the community to educate its Intergraded Development Programme (IDP). The draft IDP was tabled together with a budget of R182 million and will help in addressing various service delivery challenges raised during the consultations by communities and stakeholders. Peter Moruthane, Media Liaison Officer of the municipality, says in a media release that the municipality came a long way in successfully delivering basic services to more than 105 villages since its inception. “This includes the success story of electrifying all of its 105 villages and providing them with free water. The municipality is currently working on finalising the electrification of a few additional extensions. According to Moruthane, a new building for the traffic unit was officially opened by Maria
Mokobodi, Mayor of Aganang, and Mapula Mokaba Phukwana, MEC for Transport, earlier this month. The fully functional station is equipped with state of the art equipment that will help communities to access all services offered at a fully fledged traffic station. “In the draft 2015/16 IDP the municipality will use most of its budget to focus on addressing the challenges of infrastructure, free basic services and support of local economic development. The municipality has identified several gravel roads that will be tarred and several roads where low bridges will be built to help affected communities to connect with others during rainy seasons. The municipality has also put aside R4 million to buy land for development of a shopping complex. R5 million was also put aside to deal with the issues of environment and waste collection,” Moruthane elaborated. The municipality is committed to help indigents and a budget of R7,2 million has been put aside for free basic electricity, water and alternative energy. Mohlonong Stadium in Ga-Mashashane will be developed with a budget of R5 million,” Moruthane concluded.

BARRY VILJOEN >>barryv.observer@gmail.com Motor enthusiasts on Saturday took the opportunity to view cars of yesteryear and to enjoy the last of the summer days at Bosveld Motor Club’s Cars in the Park at General Piet Joubert School. The event also marked the 30th anniversary of the club’s establishment and cars that are just under 100 years old could be admired while the proud owners were ready to share experiences and the history of their vehicles. Newer models were also on view, as well as modified monsters with fuel thirsty engines. Guests could support the stalls where fresh vegetables and meat as well as pancakes, corn dogs and vetkoek ensured that all could be fed. A jumping castle provided entertainment for the younger ones and new cars were on display by motor dealers. A commemorative issue of a book that reflects on the club was also on sale and promises to become a collector’s item. Dries de Lange, chairperson of the club for the last 15 years, afterwards said the event was a great success with 135 cars on display.

Redimed vier 21 jaar

Maak kleurpatrone wat by ma se slaapkamer pas. Is ma ‘n ywerige sportvrou? Tap

The music playing in the car is a catchy tune that calls for turning it up a dash or two. In typical teen-mode he is on his phone and momentarily oblivious to goings-on that constitute his world. “Turn down the music, Mommy. I can’t concentrate,” he exclaims from the front seat, while texting a friend with arrangements for a prearranged drop-off. The statement is followed by a frown curving into my forehead and him turning the volume down. When did the unannounced role reversal occur? At the age of 15 and a half he is supposed to blast the radio and I the one complaining, I imagine. My outburst of laughter is a simple reflex reaction. Just the other day he was a huggable teddy bear in diapers and gallant in his display of affection. His wide smile gripped his mom’s heart every time he
was charmed by yet another discovery that marked a milestone of a precious life journey. Years on he still expresses excitement about things, in spite of the choice of subjects of attention and fascination changing incessantly. However, nowadays it happens in a less exuberant manner because it has become not-so-cool to attract attention for any old reason. Despite attempts to postpone the onset of a natural process of ageing it surprisingly happened overnight, or so it seems. In addition to that he has taken on varying adult roles without prior announcement or constant noticing: that of soul mate, best friend, guardian angel, bodyguard, confidante, info portal, travel companion and fellow-explorer. We get to share the most amazing moments together. And so we laugh together, hurt together, get ecstatic together, get upset at each other, have adventures together and hence, experience life together. In his company life remains an eternal movie. Those instants are the memories to be cherished for a lifetime. Such are the nuances that add spice to a mother’s life. There is simply no exchanging the privilege of motherhood for anything in the world. I consider myself abundantly blessed.

Goseame Management and Staff would like to wish all the Mothers a wonderful Mother’s Day. Don’t forget to PICK AND PAY FLOWERS/ROSES for that SPECIAL MOTHER WHOSE WORTH IS FAR MORE THAN RUBBIES at GOSEAME FLOWER MARKET
With her youthful appearance, beautiful smile and friendly manner, Olivia Maponya impresses from the first moment when you meet her. This vibrant woman is not only the managing director of one of Limpopo’s largest bus companies, she is also the mother of three, a son of 16 and two daughters, 11 and five respectively. Sitting in the hot seat at Kopano Bus Services, Maponya says it can be a challenge to manage her professional and home life, but confesses that she has a foolproof way to deal with this challenge. “I make sure that my priorities are straight and I manage my time effectively. When I am at work, I am 100% present and when I am at home, I am 100% present for my children,” she says. She is also a Christian and proud of the fact that she is actively involved in her church. Maponya started working for Kopano Bus Services as an administrator when the company was established in 2001. “I am thankful that the owners of the company noticed my hard work and rewarded me by making me a partner. They acknowledged my skills and dedication and did not want to lose that enthusiasm, so they offered me a stake in the company.” She says it must be said that, although the world of transport is a male dominated environment, the men in her company have always been supportive of her and her career. She is currently the only women between nine males. Maponya is very proud of the many awards and achievements of Kopano Bus Services, but PHOTO: MARKI FRANKEN
Olivia Maponya says effective time management is the key to her success.
she is most proud of the fact that they have not lost one passenger due to accidents since 2001. “One of our buses transports approximately 200 people per day and we have 58 buses. This means that Kopano transports 11 600 people every day and we have never lost anybody due to accidents. This makes our safety record all the more special. “I am also proud of the fact that we are not employers and employees at Kopano, but rather one big family. I regard every person employed by the company as a member of my family and we all treat each other as such. That is why our bus drivers put extra effort into their work and why we have such an excellent safety record. I credit our drivers and other employees with this achievement,” she explains. With Maponya at the helm, Kopano Bus Services became involved in several charitable causes. She says the company embraces the spirit of Ubuntu. “We adopted the Matshibe School for children with special needs in Lebowakgomo. We help them out on a monthly basis, based on their needs at the time. We also visit them often and spent our 67 minutes for Mandela Day at the school last year. “We also recently partnered with Nedbank. They agreed to help us buy school uniforms for the learners at Matshibe. Nedbank also donated 100 blankets to us recently and tasked us with distributing the blankets. We will not give the blankets to the learners at Matshibe, because we know that they are well taken care of. We will probably donate the blankets to a local old age home,” says Maponya. Maponya is busy setting up a foundation that will tackle childhood obesity in the near future. I am still busy with the legalities of the foundation at this stage, but I want to focus on children’s health and fitness. “As a society we are so focused on children that do not have, that we forget about those who have in abundance, but who do not know how to live healthy lives,” she says. Maponya’s advice to other women is to have confidence in their abilities. “Never let your personal insecurities stop you from using your capabilities to make your dreams come true.”

Mitchell House learners show their intelligence
LEANDRI VAN SCHALKWYK >>leandri.observer@gmail.com Mitchell House’s Grade 4 to 7 learners proudly displayed the fruit of their labour during the school’s annual Science Fair on Friday with the hope of being named top scientist. The more than hundred entries ranged from models demonstrating the basic principles of electricity to experiments on the effect of yeast on different beverages. Headmaster Andrew Cook said the event, which the school has run for the past seven years, was a wonderful opportunity for learners to show their understanding of science. “Our learners are encouraged to participate in the fair because science is very important to our school and in fact very important in any developed country,” Cook said. Parents and all other learners were also welcome to visit the fair. “The judges spent a lot of time asking each candidate questions. Although they needed to have an attractive, organised display, 75% of the marks were allocated to understanding their topic, evidence of research and application of the scientific method,” Achsah Phosoko, Marketing Director of Mitchell House said. Results: Grade 4 learner Humayd Dada won the Junior category with his project about the effect of different liquids on plant growth. The second place went to Ntahli Nkopane, Nthabiseng Shivambu and Tinaye Muchandingona, also in Grade 4 with their project about osmosis. Imaan Sonpra, Grade 5, won third place for his simple electric generator.

The community of Nirvana on Sunday joined Nirvana Pre-School for their Health and Wellness Day and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The school aimed at creating health awareness and different stations were set up where people could have their eyes, sugar and cholesterol levels tested. The little ones could even have dental check-ups. “People do not have time to go for tests like this and today they had the opportunity to get tested,” Munfusa Kika, Administrator at the school and one of the organisers, explained. The organisers had also arranged for an occupational therapist, nutritionist and reflexologist to be present and offer their services. The South African National Blood Service also hosted a mobile clinic on the premises for volunteers and regular donors to donate blood. Little ones from Nirvana Pre-School also dressed up as fruit and went on a tooty-
fruity walk to create awareness for a healthy lifestyle. The colouring and skipping competitions were very popular while horse rides brought joy and smiles to the little ones’ faces. Kika said the event was very successful and they were pleasantly surprised with how well the community supported them.

Stanford Lake College’s (SLC) recent participation at the Treverton College Easter Festival yielded success for the netball team. The girls have set themselves a high standard for the rest of the season. Walking into the Treverton festival as the smallest school they had a challenge on their hands yet the team fought as one until the final whistle in every game. The first match, against host school Treverton started off slowly but through sheer determination secured a 10 goal victory for SLC. The second day was a highlight with a 25-10 win against Woodhill. The game against Dainfern
College was closely contested and eventually finished in a nine goal victory for the SLC team. Overall they won five out of their six matches. SLC Marketer Rona McGaffin reported that captain Makungu Valoyi led the team with confidence and consistently performed to a high standard throughout the weekend. “Every single player deserves to be congratulated and should be proud of their achievements. They showed maturity on the court and displayed sheer determination and perseverance throughout the festival”, McGaffin stated.

and confidence. The new Journey Crossroad is engineer designed inside and out to provide all the style, technology and versatility that anyone needs without sacrificing its identity. The Crossroad’s shield and bright crosshair grille design with black mesh is the very definition of bold. The sculpted fender flares and muscular lines emphasise a sporty and athletic appearance. The jewelled LED tail light design shows that great attention to detail radiated in every facet of the Journey. The interior, just as impressive as the exterior, is beyond flexible and always compatible with today’s ever-changing lifestyle. Stepping inside the Journey is easy. The rear doors open 90 degrees and the standard tilt

An easy-to-access centre floor console features cup holders, 12-volt power outlets, remote USB port, auxiliary power outlet and out-of-view storage. Two in-floor storage bins with lids each hold up to a dozen 340 ml cans plus ice and other travel items in a removable liner. It features cruise control at the front of the steering wheel and audio controls at the back. The Dodge Journey Crossroad is powered to impress. From state-of-the-art

The result is an exceptional blend of high of torque, fuel economy, low emissions, and first-rate noise, vibration and harshness control. Systems such as safety-cage construction and crush zones work together to absorb or direct impact energy away from the passenger compartment in the unfortunate event of an accident. Safety features include Electronic Stability Control, Brake Assist, All-speed Traction Control, Trailer Sway Control, Electronic Roll Mitigation and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System. Ask why when you are buying a house
Melani le Roux
>> Debt, death, divorce most common reason >> Buyers have every right to know why a seller has chosen to move
Agency: Property 4 All What advice do you have for first time buyers? >> Do proper research, make sure you can afford it To what do you ascribe your success as estate agent? >> Availability, perseverance and the ability to listen to clients’ needs What is the current trend in the local property market? There is a high demand for stands with cautious buyers in a busy market
O
ne of the most important things that a buyer needs to know is why the seller is selling his home. Properties change hands every day and people have a multitude of reasons as to why they want to sell. However, sometimes the decision is one that could end up affecting the new owner and, if it’s serious enough, could have an impact on the future selling price. Crime Crime is a major problem in this country and although anyone would be hard pressed to find an area that hasn’t been impacted by criminal activities some areas do seem to be worse off than others. Sellers have to be upfront as to why they are selling a home. Being robbed a number of times is definitely something that needs to be disclosed. Noisy neighbours Disruptive, noisy neighbours are another reason that people will decide that it’s time to move on. Again, seller’s need to inform the buyer of any on-going problems they are having with the folks next door. Maintenance issues Maintenance issues are another area that should be investigated as there are sellers who are aware of pressing problems that need to be addressed. Major maintenance is costly and deciding to sell because various things have reached their sell by date, is more common than most believe. Buying a new home and discovering that the roof is going to have to be replaced or a soak pit is going to have to be installed within the next year or two can be hugely problematic and end up costing the new owner a significant amount of money. The three Ds Of course, not everyone who decides to sell has a hidden motive. Estate agents often refer to the reason for selling as the three Ds - debt, death and divorce. These tend to be the most common reasons a person chooses to put his home on the market, but there are numerous other, solid reasons for selling a home. The seller may have been transferred or be downsizing now that the family have moved on. A younger seller on the other hand may be intend on climbing up the property ladder and simply wants to buy a bigger, better property. Assumptions should never be made when it comes to buying property. Buyers have every right to know why a seller has chosen to move on to greener pastures and should be wary of those who appear to be a little edgy when discussing something as basic as this. Protection offered by the law The voetstoots clause, and under certain circumstances the Consumer Protection Act (CPA), may provide some protection in certain instances where it can be proved that the seller deliberately misrepresented certain aspects of the property or misled the buyer as to why he was selling the home. This however isn’t going to help the buyer deal with criminal aspects or disruptive neighbours. It’s highly advisable for buyers to gather as much information regarding the property before they decide to buy, rather than to complain once they have taken occupation.

> ’We are glad to have granted her that wish’ > ’It is not often we have centenarians on the show’ HERBERT RACHUENE >>herbert@mailbox.co.za
O
ne of the province’s most senior citizens, Grace Makgano Mamabolo (101) made history last Friday when she became the first elderly person to read the news live on air in her native language, Sepedi at Energy FM’s Breakfast show. Mamabolo was born in Segopje village in the Mothapo area in 1914, and she has always been an ardent reader since her teenage days. “I did sub A and Sub B and managed to pass Standard 5, which is now Grade 7. Back in the days I was reading fairly tales and short books to my siblings and I still do so now when I have the opportunity. I always wanted to read live news radio and I am glad for the opportunity given by the station,” an elated Mamabolo said afterwards. Energy FM Station Manager, Bothwell Matewe said they were happy to grant her wish to read the news on air and were proud of what she did. “That was part of celebrating the lives of centenarians. It is not often we have centenarians on the show. We normally have young people on the show, but when we heard about them and Koko Mamabolo’s wish to read the news on air we did not hesitate,” Matewe said.
Also present at the studio was fellow centenarian Albeth Mankule Mogale from Botlokwa, who is 105 years old. Sharing his recipe for reaching such a high age Mogale advised young people to stay humble, respect their elders and adhere to a healthy lifestyle. “Most of the young people no longer respect their parents and they are also battling with social ills. When we were growing up life was tough and we were living according to principles and morals. These days young people no longer value life, they just do as they please,” Mogale said.
Grace Makgano Mamabolo reads the news live at Energy FM.

Barefoot for a good cause The Management and personnel of TTS Truck and Tractor last Thursday observed National Barefoot Day, an initiative of the Put Foot Foundation. The project challenges persons to go to work barefoot for a day in order to experience the discomfort and humiliation underprivileged children go through having to walk to school and back no matter the temperature or terrain.

Mitchell House’s first hockey team hosted Hoërskool Noorderland in a league match on Thursday. Both teams were eager to score resulting in lots of exciting action. The hosts lead 2-0 at halftime but Noorderland fought back hard to score a goal in the first ten minutes of the second half. They could however not maintain the pace and Mitchell House managed to score a third goal making for a 3-1 victory. Marita Moulder, Sport Organiser of Hoërskool Noorderland said that she was proud of their team for not giving up but fighting until the very end. “It was an excellent match and the players of both teams did well,” Moulder said.

Noordelikes se tweedespan was egter

espite their 1-4 defeat against Kaizer Chiefs despite the Management of Polokwane City Football Club is adamant that they can still finish in the top 8 bracket of the 2015 Premier Soccer League (PSL). City is currently in nineth position of the log with 33 points after 27 games and will have to win the three remaining matches against Mpumalanga Aces, Platinum Stars and SuperSport United to realise their dream of finishing the league in the top eight. Aces are currently lying in the 11th position of the league with Platinum Stars 12th and Super Sport United seventh. “Those are going to be tough matches. All
three teams want to finish the season well and in a respectable position. We are no different. We have to win those matches,” Tiny Tema, Chief Operations Officer of Polokwane City FC emphasised. He also mentioned that the team has not parted ways with their defender Ellias Ngwepe who was purportedly on his way out due to a lack of game time. Since joining the Club from Platinum Stars in June last year, the 37-year-old defender played only four out of 27 league matches for the club. “We heard about the rumours but can assure that he is still with us has another year left in his contract,” Tema said. He mentioned that plans are at an advanced stage to refresh the team ahead of the next season. “Yes we will be going into the market soon to bolster our team for the upcoming season. We have a strong squad currently, but we want to make it stronger so that we can compete for major titles in the league,” Tema said. Teams that finish in the in the top eight bracket of the league, automatically qualify for the MTN 8 Cup competition, one of South Africa’s richest cup competitions with a price tag of R8 million.
Municipalities to take part in Limpopo Municipal Games BARRY VILJOEN >>barryv.observer@gmail.com Inter-Municipal Sports of South Africa (Immsa) will be hosting the ninth Limpopo Municipal Games at Lesley Manyathela Stadium in Musina on 9 May. More than 18 municipalities from Limpopo have already signed up to take part in this annual event. Jomo Mashamaite, President of Immsa and an employee of Capricorn District Municipality (CDM), looks forward to the event and calls upon municipalities to rally behind their sports loving employees, be it financially or otherwise. “Participation in these games forms part of the employee wellness programme and promotes networking amongst municipal employees. The reality is that a healthy body contributes to availability of employees to perform and that enhances service delivery. The event provides a platform to measure our preparedness to bring back as many trophies as we can when we shall be participating in the Southern Africa Inter-Municipal Sports Association (Saimsa)
games comprising of Southern African Development Community municipalities that will take place in September, hosted by Maseru City Council in Lesotho,” Mashamaite said. Sports lovers will be able to test their skills in soccer, volley ball, netball, golf, fishing, tennis, pool, table tennis and darts. The event concluded with a first ever bare fist brawl between Paul Kubannek and Bezuidenhout. Kubannek choked out an exhausted Bezuidenhout in the first round. Cage Rage 10 will be hosted within the next months.
enri Eksteen’s dojo turned into an adrenaline filled venue with the hosting of the ninth Cage Rage event. Themed All-out War, the occasion provided some professional yet extreme fighting action on Saturday evening. The venue was sold out as local fighters as well as fighters from Tzaneen and Mokopane engaged in action and the audience remained in high spirits throughout the event. Local Mixed Martial Arts fighter Cassie Bezuidenhout from the Wild West Warriors team was crowned the new Pro-am South African World International Martial Arts Association and Organisation (Wimaao) champion within the Last Man Standing ultimate challenge. He walked away with the championship belt and a R3 000 cash prize sponsored by Eksteen. Bezuidenhout’s brother, Franna van der Ende fought his way through to the overall second place, making it the first time ever that two siblings end up in the final showdown fighting for the title. The preliminary amateur bouts saw Abram Makobela beat Brandon Mashinya. Kobus Young beat Donovan Kotze. Bricks Motshike

Dit maak nie saak of jy jonk of oud, ongetroud of getroud is nie, maar hoe jy oor jouself voel.”
