Smith GUEST COLUMNIST When the Conservative Political Action Conference refused to allow Log Cabin Republicans -- again -- to participate in what will probably be the biggest right-wing shindig of the year, the gay Republicans went into a tailspin of outrage. Ninety percent of the LGBT community must have wondered, “Why bother -- again?” When it comes to Republicans, you can find U.S. Sen. Rob Portman supporting samesex marriage -- because he has a gay son. U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen is an outspoken advocate for transgender issues -- because she has a transgendered son.
