Free tickets to arts and culture at the library TUCSON -- Go to the opera. Visit a museum. Walk around the garden. Take a friend to the symphony. See a show. Now you can check out free passes to all of these places and more when you visit your library. On Oct. 1, at 10 a.m., join us at the Joel D. Valdez Main Library for a ribbon cutting and launch celebration as we kick off the Culture Pass program in Pima County. Starting Thursday, if you’re a Pima County resident and have a valid Pima County Public Library card you can check out free passes to visit some of the most unique cultural attractions and enjoy world-class performances and concerts. The new Act One Culture Pass program launches at the Joel D. Valdez Main Library in downtown Tucson, and seven other libraries will offer the passes in November. A Culture Pass is good for two free admissions at participating arts and cultural venues. An Arts Performance Pass is a special pass that provides free admission for two people to a cultural event like a show at the Arizona Opera, Arizona Theatre Company, Tohono Chul Park and many more. NYC St. Patrick's parade to allow LGBT group after 25-year pissing match OBSERVER STAFF NEW YORK CITY -- It may not be world peace, but organizers of New York City's famed St. Patrick's Day parade will allow an LGBT contingent to march under its own banner for the first time. Gays had fought for inclusion in the Roman Catholic event for 25 years. Only after a large commercial boycott of the 2015 event did the ban get lifted. The last parade did feature an LGBT group from NBC after the broadcaster threatened to drop coverage of the event, but other queer groups remained verboten.
