OCEAN FOCUS
Can you present yourself
My name is Felipe Ravina Olivares. I was born and raised in Tenerife, an island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean that belongs to Canary Islands archipelago. Every summer I used to go with my dad to a tide pool area in the south of the island an that´s where my interest in the ocean began.
Do you have a favorite marine organism to film?
I have a preference for big animals. Some of the sand tiger sharks, manta rays or whale sharks. But if I have to choose I would say pilot whales, I feel a

Spend countless hours filming in the water. That way you will not only get better at filming, but you will also learn a lot about animal behaviour, which is very important when it comes to get the perfect shot.

"AROUND 400 PILOT WHALES LIVE THERE" Sadly it is located in a busy and touristic coastal area, and that poses a threat to marine biodiversity in form of pollution and boat strikes. It is an amazing place to film wildlife and it also allows me to film the threats they face to try and improve the protection marine biodiversity has in the area.

OCEAN SHOUTOUTS! Tips for Ocean Inspiration from Felipe Ravina Olivares How can people learn more about you? They can find me on Instagram (@felipe_ravina), or on Facebook and Youtube as “Especies de Canarias” How do you find inspiration? Do you follow certain «ocean people» on social media? I usually find inspiration in the ocean. Being alone in the water with a prehistoric shark for hours, freedive in a beach with 150 butterfly rays or being surrounded by 30 pilot whales, Atlantic spotted dolphins and 2 meter long tunas are some of the moments that have inspired me a lot lately. If we have to talk about social media, Sealegacy is one of my main inspirations when it comes to ocean conservation. Madison Stewart has also been a great inspiration for me. A marine destination you would love to visit? Bahamas.
Not a specific skill for now. I want to keep improving my filming and editing skills so I can make more impact and reach more people so they understand the importance of protecting our oceans.

Many of the marine flatworms are beautiful and free-living, in stark contrast to the more numerous species of dowdy flatworms that live as parasites inside the bodies of other animals.
“THE BUTTERFLIES OF THE SEA". Flatworms vs Nudibranchs: Marine flatworms are often very colorful, with amazing patterns. They are also slow moving - which makes them perfect for photographers and divers to enjoy. Nudibranchs share these features. But these animals are not the same thing. "Their flat bodies make it relatively easy for experienced eyes to recognize flatworms and distinguish them from nudibranchs and other marine worms" Click on the article to the right, to learn more.
