A FEW WORDS FROM THE EDITOR The Ocean has always been part of my life. You know that seaweedy, salty scent when you get closer? That is enough to make me happy! The whole idea behind this magazine, is to present content from Ocean People worldwide.

Most of us "Ocean People" have several interests linked to the Ocean. So why not combine them all in one place. That's what we have done! Enjoy:)

We want the magazine to feel informal - "like pass through your screen.

Sharks are beautiful animals, and if you're lucky enough to see lots of them, that means that you're in a healthy ocean. You should be afraid if you are in the ocean and don't see sharks.

MEET

CINEMATOGRAPHER

ROGER MUNNS

Can you present yourself and your Ocean link.

My name is Roger Munns. I am a wildlife cinematographer with a focus on marine life. I was one of the principal cinematographers on Blue Planet II and have worked on several other Attenborough landmarks for the BBC. I grew up on the wild Atlantic coast of Cornwall in the UK but have been based in Malaysia for the past 20 years. What is your nr. 1 ocean memory?

My standout memory was filming and freediving making of ‘Life’ for the BBC. The encounter lasted over an hour and the calf was incredibly friendly. It was like playing with a puppy the size of an elephant! I think marine mammals make possibly the best encounters as they have so much Photographer: Jason Isley / Scubazoo. OCEAN SHOUTOUTS! Tips for Ocean Inspiration from Roger Munns. Photographer: Jason Isley / Scubazoo

Is it possible for people to learn more about you and your shared skill/story?

I have a blog on my website – https://www.roger-munns.com and I have an instagram account where I share images and stories from my work: https://www.instagram.com/roger.munns/ Do you have special «ocean profiles» you follow/look up to? There are a lot of inspirational ocean people out there. I would say I gravitate to fellow cinematographers and NGO’s on instagram – rogerhorrocks, mantatrust, jchauser

to visit.

The Galapagos is still top of my wish list. I had to turn down a job there this year due to a schedule clash and it was heartbreaking!

TASTE OF SALT

Sea Urchin

OCEAN FOODIE a delicacy in many countries. So, which part should you eat? Look for the orange bits. Those 5 lobes are the reproductions organs. Yes, that is what 5 star restaurants serve:) They are easy to harvest, and in certain areas harvesting urchins is a method to maintain a healthy ocean. Too many urchins can eat their way through a kelp forest quicker than most of us can imagine.

"EATING THEM RAW IS PROBABLY EATING THEM AT THEIR BEST." The taste of sea urchins is described in many ways. Some people compare it to egg yolk, others to lobster or a sweet ocean flavour. The quote above is from "holafoodie". Check out their recipe for Galicien sea urchin gratin: http://holafoodie.com/recipe/galician-seaurchins-gratin/ What is an "uni Espresso"? The founders of OCEANhab used to serve these tasty espressos from their popup "urchin bar". Add some fresh sea urchin "roe" to your newly made espresso. This combination really works!

CONSERVATION

CAN WE HELP ?

The platform OCEANhab is setting up a special category for "virtual volunteering". The current situation with Corona has reduced many opportunities for non-profit organizations to survive. Even in a "normal" world, people don't always have the resources to travel and help out. We will try a new approach. The aim is to set up small digital projects/activities where people can volunteer from their screen. Activities offered can inlude "behind the scenes" via zoom, webinars etc. Are you part of a non-profit organization with Ocean focus? Would you like to become a partner for this "pilot"? Please, send us an e-mail and we can dive into different possibilities: hello@oceanhab.org https://www.oceanhab.org/

ISLANDER

HENRIETTE NÆSS EBBESEN

Can you present yourself and your Ocean link.

My name is Henriette Næss Ebbesen, and I am born and raised in the coast of Helgeland. I grew up on an Island called Vega, with my mom and dad as farmers, and my to older sisters. Growing up on an Island, and living only 200 meters from the ocean - my love for the ocean came naturally. Going out with the boat fishing for cod, pollack and halibut, paddling in the sunset in deep fire-red color, and swimming in crystal clear water. Is there an ocean «skill» you would like to learn?
