Winterblast WEEKEND 2022
You can always tell when it’s the middle of winter again. Bay Rodders hold their awesome “Winterblast” weekend in Tauranga in the usual sunny Bay of Plenty. Being winter of course, the rain just seems to arrive for this weekend, but it certainly doesn’t dampen down the fun and laughs of the event. This annual event has been locked in my diary for as long as I can remember, it is such an awesome event to get along to! Whether you’re rocking along to get amongst the entire weekends festivities
or just rolling into the show and swap meet on the Sunday, it’s a great weekend to be part of. It all kicks off on the Friday evening with people rolling into the Bay Rodders club rooms in Mount Maunganui to register for the weekend and catch up with mates for a few laughs. Saturday morning kicks off with a mystery rally with participants given a couple of sheets of paper with directions and a “todo list” on and she’s all go. It’s not exactly a hard mystery rally as mystery rallies go. Everyone leaves at once as if in a convoy, heading off to the first challenge of the trip to score points as part of the competition. I think the real mystery is how to rig the points scoring really, not that we would, just saying!
First up was the ole “putt the tennis ball into a bucket”. The trick here was to find out which bucket was worth the most points though. A little simple reconnaissance here, a top score of “ten” was obtainable for the score sheet and it was off to the next challenge. It’s always a cool cruise at these events. This time we headed off down the coast as if heading back home for me. I did wonder if they were going to drop me off actually, so I kept my manners in-tact for the morning, just! The next challenge was a goody and not something you do everyday at home, well, not for most of us anyway. With a plunger placed between your legs and a co-competitor with a toilet roll placed between theirs, the challenge was on to slip that plunger where you didn’t think you would, in the toilet roll that is.
