Golf Fit Read about our popular course to help you become a better golfer. Our Golf Fit programme is designed to maximise your body’s ability to play the game of golf and will focus on aspects such as flexibility, muscular balance and also strength based work. All these are designed to make sure that you can swing the club with maximum efficiency, as well as helping correct any common faults in your swing pattern. The big point to realise is that throughout this programme we never use a golf club! The backbone of this programme is all about making you an efficient golfing machine through various tests, stretches and resistance work. You, the golfer, are the most important piece of kit you have. Your body is what generates power, rotation, spin, distance and accuracy – not the clubs! By making sure the body is working correctly you can correct common swing problems such as slicing, hooking, or shanking a drive. A golfers body goes through a massive amount of stress and strain during a drive, considering that the head of the club can hit speeds of over 100 mph, therefore generating huge amounts of force. Golf is a very athletic event, despite what the majority of non-golfers think. Get the body into the correct condition and big gains can be made to accuracy and distance of a golf shot.

Postural Assessments: (45 mins) In your first appointment your trainer will do an initial postural assessment. This assessment is made up of 14 simple exercises and is designed to highlight any restricted flexibility and also highlight tight or long muscle groups.

Corrective Stretch sessions: (2 x 30 mins) This comprises of 2x 30 minute sessions. During these sessions your trainer will go through a stretching routine with you, this routine is designed specifically for you and is based on the findings from your initial Postural Assessments session.

Weights session: (45 mins) The final step is a weights based session to help strengthen up any weaknesses identified and also help develop a long term programme for you. The weight based session is, again, specific to you and may focus on functional exercises to help improve and develop your golf swing. You will leave this session with a programme to continue with after the course has been completed.

Start by Building Your Habit Get yourself into the routine of actually getting to the club, changing and completing some exercises. If you’re moving from a sedentary lifestyle, why should you be able to simply drop into regularly exercising?

Train Early Not everyone is an early bird, but exercising before the day has a chance to eat into your workout time, is not only a great way to start the day but morning exercising raises your metabolism for longer – you burn more calories!
Odyssey Team Challenge! We believe all our members are capable of surviving even the toughest of challenges and the London Survival of the Fittest 10K on 22nd November at Wembley Stadium sounded like just the place to test that theory! So when former Zumba Instructor Laura Wilson asked if we’d like to join #TeamDanceaid at ‘Survival’ to raise money for her charity danceaid, which supports disabled and disadvantaged children around the world, we leapt at the chance! While this event may look intimidating, the truth is that if you train properly then any of you have the ability to conquer an Obstacle Race like this. The training is varied and exciting as it offers a change of pace to normal training routines with a real target in your diary to work towards – race day! It builds overall strength, stamina, endurance for a slimmer, faster you!!
Odyssey is perfectly equipped with the training facilities you need for such an obstacle race – from our outdoor workout area to our new purpose-built rig that offers chin-up bars, monkey bars, squat racks and space for box jumps and other bodyweight exercises as well. These types of exercise relate directly to the different challenges an event like this offers so you will be more ready for race day than most!
Not sure if this challenge is for you? One of our members, Neil Smallwood, joined #TeamDanceaid last year; “It doesn’t have to be about racing and setting a time. For us it was about taking on a challenge as a team, helping each other out, and having fun. People of all ages and sizes competed on the day and every one of them finished with a big smile. When else do you get the chance to have a go on a huge playground for grown-ups?”

Rig Taster Sessions Functional training, if performed correctly, will lead to better joint mobility and stability, as well as more efficient motor patterns. Improving these factors decreases the potential for an injury sustained during exercise. Standard resistance training machines are of limited use for functional training – their fixed patterns rarely mimic natural movements, and they focus the effort on a single muscle group,

rather than engaging the stabilizers and peripheral muscles. This is where our fantastic new rig comes in to play. Installed only a few weeks ago, we have already started seeing an increase in use with many members finding new styles of exercise which is not surprising as The Rig offers so many different ways to start functional training.
