EXPLORING

A PLACE TO EXPERIENCE URBAN VOID SITE: THE OLD AIRPORT, DHAKA SCALE : 1’- 0” = 384’-0”

Our strategic design proposal focuses on the hinging point of Dhaka- Tejgaon Old Airport site that has the potential to combine culture and city with green and open space, explore an experience on water journey and provide a narrative about our traditions and cultures that represents our country. The strategy fundamentally proposes green walkways covering cultural quarter that will act as a catalyst to serve some urban relief to the busy life of city people. It will unite culture, people and the city both physic ally and metaphorically. The proposal not only aims to link the surrounding areas but also intends to unite the whole city and create a new vision for Dhaka.

LOCATION OF THE SITE: THE OLD AIRPORT, DHAKA In 1947 it became the first civil airport of Bangladesh.

Today it is a part of BAF (Bangladesh Air Force) Base Bashar.

Dhaka city has been developed along the Buriganga river but the experience of the riverside activity has been missing. Revitalization of riverside experience of boating, walking, sitting, gathering can be inspired. As our case study of Venice shows how the city revolves around water and the experience of the water body is enjoyed through public gathering open spaces.
