our philanthropic aspirations in strategic areas that are critical components of athletic success and student development. To accomplish this, we must rely on major and principal gifts from individuals deeply invested in providing for future generations of Belmont student-athletes. As such, we are launching the “Athletic Excellence Initiative,“ a blueprint responsible for elevating Belmont Athletics to the forefront of intercollegiate athletics. To date, we have received just short of $6 million in commitments to the AEI. The additional annual philanthropic support from the Athletic Excellence Initiative will provide the necessary funding for Belmont Athletics to succeed and to support our athletes as they strive to reach their dreams in our new home, the Missouri Valley Conference.

International Trips—The NCAA allows men’s and women’s basketball teams the opportunity to take one international trip every four summers. MBB Scheduling—Offer guaranteed financial payments to schools for more home games including hosting a multiteam tournament at Belmont. Game Day Experience at the Curb Event Center—Improve game day experience via the following: • Add video boards throughout the arena • Add more premium seating options • Enhance concession area • Enhance suites CONCLUSION

Belmont Athletics seeks highly motivated individuals to help take our athletic programs and student-athletes to unprecedented heights as we transition into the prestigious Missouri Valley Conference by chartering its exclusive “Athletic Excellence Initiative.” Support of the “Athletic Excellence Initiative” begins at the $250,000 level and commitments may be paid over five years. These amazing trips are still making an eternal impact on our student athlete’s faith journeys, just as they did in 1995 when Betty Wiseman first took a group of Belmont basketball players to Poland. We are looking forward to providing many more of these mission trip experiences beginning in May 2022, as several studentathletes will be serving in Unalakleet, Alaska. For the first time since December of 2019, Belmont University Athletics is serving on a mission trip as a total of 11 student-athletes and Coordinator of Academic Services & Sport Ministry Dr. Ryan

We are excited to continue this new tradition as we once again offer the opportunity for donors at the $10,000 annual level and above to travel with our men’s basketball program to an upcoming away game this season. Trips include travel with the team, lodging at the team hotel, an option to attend practice/shoot around sessions and a private dinner with Belmont’s men’s basketball team, coaches, and athletic administration. Previous destinations and opponents have included TCU in Fort Worth, TX, UCLA in Los Angeles, CA, Boston College in Boston, MA and LSU in Baton Rouge, LA.

you will consider becoming a Platinum Bruin to join us for an incredible trip interacting with some of Belmont’s finest student-athletes, coaches and administrators.

A MP: AT HL E T E ME N T ORSHIP P ROG R A M The Athlete Mentorship Program (AMP) helps initiate and develop relationships between Belmont student-athletes and professionals from a wide array of industries in the Nashville area. These connections provide the student-athlete with guidance and direction in areas such as personal goals, career development, networking and future employment opportunities. Additionally, AMP offers personal development that will assist student-athletes as they transition to life after Belmont. The hope for AMP participants is that the connection between the mentor and mentee will grow and develop into a long-term professional relationship. AMP is the brainchild of Belmont Athletics Director Scott Corley and was created in 2018. In the 2021-22 academic year, AMP’s fourth year of existence, 40 student-athletes from all 17 sports participated in the program. This year’s group of mentors come from a number of career fields including accounting, entrepreneurship, finance, health care, music business, public relations, sales and sports. The group also boasts 14 Belmont

AMP is a part of a larger student-athlete development program at Belmont. In addition to AMP, Belmont student-athletes are provided education and training on financial literacy, brand building, mental health, academic integrity, and self-defense.

“Getting the chance to build a genuine relationship with a student-athlete and reflect back on my experiences as a student-athlete through the AMP program, has been such an eye-opening experience. There are few things more lifegiving to me than hearing individuals talk about their passions and what excites them when thinking about the future. Being a mentor has awarded me the privilege of walking alongside a student-athlete deciding what’s next for them and seeking open doors for the next phase of their life which I believe is a truly priceless opportunity.”

ELLIE IVANICH C F P, M O R G A N S TA N L E Y

“During my time as a mentor I have been able to not only give back to a school that helped me get where I am today, but I’ve been able to build strong relationships that will last beyond this program. I have gained so much knowledge from business men and women that have mentored me along the way, and this is such a great way to do exactly that for Belmont athletes.”

INTRODUCING THE

RICK BYRD CHARACTER LEADERSHIP FORMATION PROGRAM Rick Byrd Character Formation and Leadership Program launched in wake of Byrd’s induction into National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame Rick Byrd may have retired from his role as a legendary basketball coach in 2019, but his impact on students remains and will now be enhanced further through Belmont University’s recent establishment of the Rick Byrd Character Formation and Leadership Program. This new initiative will create curriculum around Byrd’s leadership, coaching and character formation philosophies that can then be embedded in both academic courses and co-curricular Character Award will annually recognize an individual in the community who exemplifies the leadership and character of Coach Byrd. Both initiatives come on the heels of Byrd’s November 2021 induction into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame and being named recipient of the 2022 John R. Wooden Legends of Coaching Award. These honors build on a long list of accolades that include induction into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame, the NAIA Hall of Fame, Ohio Valley Conference Hall of Fame and the Atlantic Sun Conference Hall of Fame. Belmont President Dr. Greg Jones noted, “Rick Byrd embodies the kind of character we hope our students will emulate. A consummate professional who achieved unparalleled success in his field, Coach Byrd’s impact extends far beyond athletics. His integrity, grace and humility—along with his dedicated and disciplined leadership approach—will provide a tremendous model for our students to explore as we develop programming that will guide them in their own character formation. His example also is exemplary for leaders in our community as well as more broadly in the world.” Milton Johnson, retired Chairman/CEO of HCA Healthcare and current chair of Belmont’s Board of Trustees, added, “Rick has previously noted how much he was influenced by his own father, a sports columnist, as well as the personal character and Christian commitment of another legendary coach, John Wooden. It’s exciting to me to imagine the future men and women who will note Rick Byrd as their influence in leading a life of integrity, kindness and excellence. Through these new initiatives, Belmont ensures Rick’s legacy and impact will endure as individuals across the university and in the community are inspired by his example.” Vice President for Transformative Innovation, Character and Purpose Dr. Amy Crook, Associate Professor and Chair of Sport Administration Dr. Ted Peetz and Assistant Professor of Management Dr. Paula Roberts will work with Coach Byrd to develop the Character Formation and Leadership curriculum. Plans for the program’s implementation and for the inaugural Rick Byrd Character Award will be announced at a future date.

“We get to represent what I think is the absolute best university in the world. When we put that uniform on we understand we’re doing a lot more than just playing a basketball game. We’re showcasing what I think is one of the most unique educational experiences that you can get…We will have the three smallest players on the court. There’s nothing small about how they play. And there’s nothing small about how we operate our program. There’s nothing small about running a program that has an emphasis on basketball at a high level, on academics at a high level, on community engagement at a high level and spiritual growth at a high level. We can offer all four of those things at a really high level. There’s nothing small about that. There’s nothing small about Belmont. We love the opportunity to go prove that.” BART BROOKS, WOMEN’S BASKETBALL HEAD COACH
