Welcome to the hottest performance festival in the East Midlands! Departure Lounge Festival is celebrating its 5th birthday! Produced by In Good Company, we are bringing you a bumper line-up of shows, workshops and talks, making our fifth festival our biggest to date! We are dedicated to bringing fresh and innovative performance for curious audiences and artists in the East Midlands. You’ll get your usual dosage of Edinburgh previews, as well as tried and tested work and a couple of brand new works-in-progress. We’re also delighted to announce that we will be hosting Little Earthquake’s East Meets West Symposium and our family day will return to finish off the weekend with some exciting new work for young audiences. We’ve kept our ticket prices low, as we know artists and audiences aren’t always flush, so check out our weekender and day passes on our booking page. And if you just want to pop along to an individual event nothing costs more than a tenner!

20B by Jane English To relocate her sense of home, Jane goes on a mission to find and reconnect with her former neighbours, to document their memories, and make a record of the community which was scattered by regeneration.
Part autobiography, part oral history, 20B is a moving exploration of what home and community really mean and Day one takes place at mac Birmingham on Weds 19 July, how it feels when these things with day two at Derby Theatre are lost. DECLINING SOLO by Two Destination Language A woman returns to visit her family home, and misses the one thing she values most: the father she remembers. It’s in a place where there’s singing and dancing and eating and drinking and being merry, and of friendships and familial links, as the total core of communities.
Combining text with choreography, video and specially commissioned music, this is the sequel to Two Destination Language’s awardwinning Near Gone.

CASTLE ROCK by Massive Owl As flashing neon lights descend upon the tracks, a boxing-gloved boy with a death wish comes head to head with a white suited locomotive and a deer in black patent stilettos. Castle Rock is a new story inspired by three of the voiceless characters in Stephen King’s novella The Body and its 1986 cult film adaptation, Stand By Me. Expect distorted sound, movement and projection as Massive Owl contort the book’s characters and twist the film’s soundtrack into a story about loss and acceptance.

Self confessed triple threat artist Lucy McCormick makes club installations, cabaret interventions and extravaganza theatre shows.
One of the most talked about shows of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2015, O No! is a psychedelic ride, and a wonky homage to the woman damned for destroying The Beatles. It borrows Yoko Ono’s art instructions to ask whether falling in love is always catastrophic. It’s about reckless optimism, avant-garde art & what we might yet have to learn from the hippies.
This is a show about our fear of death, dying and being dead. It’s about Jozey, who doesn’t really do anything that could possibly, even slightly increase her risk of dying. Find out about The Big House Business Support Opportunities Derby Theatre is thrilled to be part of The Big House, a £5 million tailored support programme for the Creative and Digital Industries sector. Organisations across the D2N2 (Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire) region have come together to launch The Big House programme, part-funded by a £2.5 million contribution from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The Big House is being launched to improve the ability of the region’s small-to medium-sized creative businesses to grow, so they can take advantage of the UK’s booming Creative and Digital Industries. The support on offer will include grants, one-to-one advice, support plus coaching and networking events sector. Derby Theatre will be providing a wide range of targeted business support, from workshops to research and development grants, for performing arts professionals and companies, building on the solid foundations of IGC.
