THURSDAY 19 - SUNDAY 22 JULY THE SUMMER’S HOTTEST PERFORMANCE FESTIVAL RETURNS TO DERBY THEATRE! @InGoodCoEm
Welcome to the hottest performance festival in the East Midlands! Produced by In Good Company, Departure Lounge is the festival for groundbreaking work in the heart of the country. Every corner of Derby Theatre and beyond will be brought to life by extraordinary performances, workshops and discussion. We really are reimagining what a theatrical experience can be and are committed to supporting curious minds and artists. There’s the regular mix of Edinburgh previews, the best of the East Midlands blended with the UK’s most exciting artists and companies, sharing works-in-progress, performances in cafés and cars, all-nighters, immersive and intimate performances and award-winning touring work.
Earthquake to host their East-Meets-West The Human Search Engine once again and we’re re-charging our batteries and taking stock on our Sunday workshop day. We’ve kept our ticket prices low, as we know artists and audiences aren’t always loaded, so check out our festival and day passes on our booking page. And if you just want to pop along to an individual event nothing costs more than a tenner! At Departure Lounge you’ll always be In Good Company.
This year we’ve gone international with Theatre Replacement’s Town Choir taking place in Derby’s Intu Centre and have got a corker of a line-up for our Leadership In The Arts panel discussion on Friday; including new Artistic Director of the Young Vic, Kwame Kwei-Armah. We are teaming up with Little

REPRESENT SHOWCASE
Would you delete your online legacy at the moment of your death? User Not Found is a pioneering and intimate new play performed through smartphones and headphones as you become a fly-on-thewall of one man faced with keeping or deleting. A story of contemporary grief unfolds through this intimate, funny performance that gently interrogates our need for connection.
In a fixed location, writers type out observations of the world unfolding around them. In that same moment, a town choir receives these observations via a large screen and sings them out to the public. Drawing on patterns of relaying information that mirror Twitter or Facebook, Town Choir treats everyday considerations as the news. Intimate and minute details are transmitted through the ether, and then filtered through the live body in an epic choral declaration.
A showcase of work made by women of colour. Visit derbytheatre.co.uk for more details on each performance.

OPEN WOUND by Cheeky Chin
ONE ACT OPEN MIC
I’M STICKING WITH YOU by Pebble Gorge
“How did you break up last time?”
Open mic nights are an exciting opportunity for all performers and all styles. If you have music, poetry, comedy or more that you would like to present in a relaxed, supportive and intimate setting, whilst meeting other like-minded performers, make sure you arrive early to book a slot.
With just a box of characters and some simple instructions, the play delivers an experience of some of the feelings that have been running high in the UK since Brexit. Whose voice do we listen to? How do we know what’s right for us? You sit at the table. You put on the headphones. You look out from the white cliffs, across the blue sea and to the person sitting opposite. Do you stick with them? Or do you want to leave?
Open Wound is a semisolo show about break-ups, relationships, decisions and broken hearts, exploring how the heightened gendered, racialized and classed social expectations in the new global context permeate into the most intimate relationships from an East Asian perspective, not only for the two people in the relationship, but also for nations in the world. Written and performed by Yuyu Wang.

1989. Manchester. A frenzy of drugs, beats, bucket hats. Illegal raves. Acid parties. Just jumping up and down in a field and throwing two fingers to Thatcher...Remember it? Because we don’t. But Ian does. And he’s gonna take us back.
The party continues after the performance so stay for more great music, a few drinks and networking.
