CO-CHAIR ROMONDA JORDAN Romonda Jordan is Co- Founder of Off The Field NFL Wives Association and has served on the Board of Directors since the inception. Romonda obtained a B.A. in Speech Communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is the wife of former NFL Pro Randy Jordan, recently completing his 10th season as the Running Backs Coach/Senior Assistant HC for the Washington Commanders. Romonda and Randy have three children: Raven, Jalen and Justin. Romonda embraces the challenge of growing her business, Next Level Consulting solutions, doing good in her community, and being present in the lives of her home field of Team Jordan. The one thing that she consistently shares with her family and the women around her is to bloom where you are planted. It’s that mindset that likely stems from being an Air Force brat that has helped Romonda to navigate the ebb and flow that comes with being in the NFL as the wife of a player, that transitioned right away to coaching. Her desire to see the women around her support, connect with, and elevate each other can be linked back to her involvement with the women’s groups at the teams she has been affiliated with such as Jaguar Women’s Network, RWORaider Women’s Organization, and currently Women of Washington respectively. It’s that same passion for women and families on her current team, that inspires her to be an ambassador for Off The Field and extend that outreach to women across the league. That idea manifested years ago when she and her husband Randy served on the Board for Pro Athletes Outreach and had the opportunity to serve many of their peers in the league. That gave Romonda a foundation for understanding the needs we have to be uplifted, within our NFL community and it’s her goal to continue to share with women, cultivate relationships and continue to make a difference off the field. “Being involved in charitable organizations gives me a great since of fulfillment as a mentor, role model, and leader and having the opportunity to connect with women gives me great joy because of the bond we share!”

2024 DANIELLE BEVERLY COURAGE AWARD

CHIE SMITH Chie Smith was born and raised in Southern California. She met and married her husband, former Los Angeles Raider Fullback Steve Smith (87-84) in 1989 while performing as a member of The Los Angeles Raiderettes (86-89). She welcomed their two children, son Dante and daughter Jazmin in 1990 and 1991. She and Steve were married just shy of 32 years before he passed peacefully in 2021 from complications of ALS caused by CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy). Steve was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) 6 years after he retired from football. Chie proudly took care of her husband at home, where he could be surrounded by his loving family and where she knew he would receive the best care. Steve lived the last 15 years of his life with the assistance of a ventilator and feeding tube. She had an inkling of what this would entail caring for a loved one who is ventilator and feeding tube-dependent, but until one is living it firsthand, it is when you understand that it can be a learn-as-you-go process. This was no small task while raising two young preteens. As a wife, mom, and caregiver, she wore any hat that she needed to wear all while providing a home for a menagerie of rescued pets, managing finances, their home, and every emergency that became a part of lives on a near-regular basis as well as keeping hope alive for her beloved Steve. “I could not have done this alone without a village of support. A team I presided over to make sure my husband received the best possible care.

Lots of trial and error, tears, but always plenty of laughter. Steve’s ever-present smile and positive energy kept our home vibrant and not a place of mourning or loss”, Chie shared. She thinks Steve’s will to survive, the love of their family, and his faith in God carried him and them all through this time. Chie learned that fear comes before courage. “If I’m to be considered courageous, then I can wholeheartedly say having a brave husband to help me throughout those nearly 20 years of his care and having two beautiful children, I wanted to teach them that when a crisis happens, you never abandon someone in their time of need, and together as a family, caring for a terminally ill loved one or someone who is experiencing a health crisis can be done. Sometimes, the plan of action has no plan, and you are flying by the seat of your pants”, said Chie. Since her beloved Steve’s passing on Nov 20, 2021, she has needed to refocus on her health so that she can continue to be present and a guiding light for her sweet little grandson, “Steve,” named after his Grandpa and their children, now grown adults with their own lives. Her daughter Jazmin, age 32, currently battling a second recurrence of Triple triple-negative breast cancer, reminds her every day of the meaning of courage.
