OFF THE FIELD 20th Anniversary
ERICKA LASSITER Welcome to Off the Field Players’ Wives Association’ s 20th Annual Fashion Show. The goal of Off the Field is to provide support in our communities through philanthropic initiatives. For the past 20 years, our Annual Fashion Show has provided both financial and volunteer support in NFL Super Bowl Host Cities. The global pandemic of 2020 hit the world hard. Our way of life turned upside side down, virtually overnight. Covid-19 had the potential to derail our goal of supporting the Tampa Bay community, host city for Super Bowl LV. As President of Off the Field Players’ Wives Association, I am beyond proud
of the ladies of Off the Field Board of Directors and the Fashion Show Committee. Working together, as a team, they flawlessly adapted our inperson show to a dynamic virtual experience I am sure you will enjoy. To the Off the Field Board of Directors, “Thank You” for your cooperation, coordination and determination to continue our mission. To the Fashion Show Chairs, “Thank You” for your leadership and perseverance. To the Fashion Show Committee Chairs, “Thank You” for your adaptability and creativity. Ladies, this virtual event was made possible by your drive and tenacity.
President, Off The Field Players' Wives Association
To our sponsors, “Thank You” for your partnership and collaboration. Words do not adequately express my gratitude for your support. Your belief in us and our mission is greatly appreciated. To my family, my boys Eric, KJ, Kwinton, Kwincy, Darius and my amazing sister Lydia, “Thank You”. I carry your love and encouragement with me every day. I Love You. To the National Football Conference (NFC) Champion and Super Bowl LV Champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the American Football Conference (AFC) champion Kansas City Chiefs, congratulations on an outstanding season. On behalf of the Board of Directors and Members of Off the Field, we would like to thank you for helping us continue to make a difference in lives “off the field.” Now sit back and enjoy the show! Sincerely, Ericka Lassiter --President, Off the Field

THE HISTORY OF THE FASHION SHOW Best friends Angela Allen and Sherice Brown would travel to Super Bowls year after year accompanying Sherice’s husband Tim. While the Super Bowl is the most watched football sporting event of the year the activities attracting women were in short supply. But on the other hand, the NFL husbands had schedules packed with football signings, golf tournaments and awards ceremonies. The duo talked over lunch one day and instead of complaining they came up with a plan. They had the idea to create an event in Super host cities that highlights the NFL wives, develops camaraderie and provide opportunities for the husbands to support the wives, off the field. As the idea transformed it would be an event that involved extraordinary fashions, a delectable meal, undeniable laughter, worldwide sisterhood by incorporating wives from across the United States and generosity by giving donations to well-merited community organizations. In 2002, Super Bowl XXXVI marked the inaugural Players Wives Fashion Show Brunch and Tea event. That year, Super Bowl was held in New Orleans, Louisiana. The fashion designer who hosted the event was Max Nugus. Nugus was a couture designer to
celebrity wives across the United States. Most of the wives had a closet full of his designs so they modeled from their personal wardrobe. The duo knew that it would be important to tap into their own personal resources and contacts to bring the plan to full fruition. NFL Wives sponsorship supporters who also ran with the vision were Sherice Brown (Tim), Ashley Brown (Ray), Romanda Jordan (Randy), Kim Wheatley (Tyrone), Angela Garner (Charlie) and Zina McGlockton (Chester). A donation in the amount of $3000.00 was given to a local non-profit after school program. The event continued to be produced year after year as one of the most highly anticipated events during Super Bowl attracting women from all walks of life and economic status. In 2006, Off the Field Players Wives Association organization was officially chartered and continues to grow and soar. The organization is now recognized as an officially sanctioned event by the National Football League. The organization has supported over 50 charities, in addition to donating over 1 million dollars.

THE HISTORY OF OTFPWA AWARDS AN INTERVIEW WITH VALARIE EVERETT For OTF Board member Valarie Everett, the height of fashion is lifting up other women, supporting other women, empowering them and celebrating their efforts. “Look, we all know the testosterone world that Off The Field and football brings – the life we live in,” said Everett wife of former NFL Pro, Major Everett. “I believe that the success of our guys is on the backs of the strength in their partners and more often than not, the accolades are given to the player. This is true for women outside of the game, too. I feel that women should be celebrated for what they have done to contribute. Women are out there making things happen and spearheading movements. For some reason, it is innate with most women to deflect accolades and compliments and praise with overt modesty. ‘Oh, No – it was nothing! My pleasure! Anyone could do it.’ NO! It was IMPACTFUL. It was MEANINGFUL. It was GAME-CHANGING. And no one else did it – YOU DID IT!” When Everett became a member of the Off The Field Board of Directors in 2016, she was immediately drawn to the Annual Super Bowl Fashion Show Awards Committee and has since become an integral part of the award election process and presentation. Each year, Off The Field honors a woman of impact with the OTF Woman of Impact Award, and a woman of courage with the Danielle Beverly Courage Award. The definition of the Woman of Impact Award
dedication to causes that are committed to community service and philanthropy. Off The Field looks to individuals who are leaders in service and philanthropy. This may be women who are difference-makers in private industry, philanthropy or civil service. The candidate must not be a member of Off The Field and must live in or near the host Super Bowl city area. Previous Woman of Impact Award recipients include: Roberta Adams, Kiersten Allen, Rosa M. Gatti, Cindy Gruden, Robin Roberts, Marlo Thomas, Patricia Smith, Holly Robinson Peete, Dionne Boldin, Tina Simmons DeFoor, Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, Congresswoman Fredericka S. Wilson, and Traci Otey Blunt. The Danielle Beverly Courage Award pays homage to Danielle Beverly, a courageous member of Off The Field who has battled and beat breast cancer three times. Previous Danielle Beverly Courage Award recipients include: Kimberly Alexander, Dr. Keisha Kirkland, Teri Upshaw, Niya Brown Matthews, Kristin Young, and Ericka Lassiter. This nominee must be a member of Off The Field. The selection process has become streamlined with the search beginning each year in the Super Bowl host city. “We begin reaching out to our Off The Field members that live in the host city, said Everett. “We rely heavily on our OTF members who are familiar with the area,
"WE RISE BY LIFTING OTHERS ."
20
DANIELLE BEVERLY AWARD AND WOMAN OF IMPACT AWARDS who have a pulse for what is going on in their communities and know the key women in the area that are making a difference.” Nominations are sent to the Awards Committee via the website www.offthefieldpwa.org and the committee is then tasked with harrowing job of narrowing down the selections to the top three. “This is the most difficult part,” said Everett. “Through the years, we have been introduced to an array of fierce women. Through the nominations, we are privy to the efforts and often emotional journeys of dynamic women. Their testimonies stay with you. Selecting a winner each year can be a daunting task when you find that each woman is worthy of the title.”Taking the burden off the Awards Committee, the top three candidates and the committee’s selection is then sent to the OTF BOD for review, discussion and final vote. Often, there are ties for both awards and in that case – Off The Field will celebrate both women. Although 2020 was different in many ways, the integrity, selection process and presentation (although private) remained the same – with all award recipients being key contributors to the city of Tampa Bay. This year, Off The Field Players’ Wives Association presented OTF Woman of Impact Awards to Candy DeBartolo and Lauren Dungy. “This year’s Woman of Impact Award winners live their lives with purpose and commitment,” said Everett. “Lauren Dungy is a woman of deep faith. She is the ultimate force in community, lives her life through divine guidance and is humble beyond measure.” The 2020 Woman of Impact Award was also bestowed upon Candy DeBartolo. With the need to pivot to a private presentation
ceremony, Candy immediately offered to host the taping at her North Tampa restaurant, Sacred Pepper. “Candy has the most generous soul and the ability to welcome everyone into her restaurant and life - like family,” said Everett. “She is passionate about life, about bringing people together at the table. No doubt, Candy DeBartolo has a seat at the table!” The 2020 Danielle Beverly Awards were presented to Mitzi Testaverde and Sarina Murphy. “Mitzi’s story is one of strength, resilience and gratitude,” said Everett. “Her testimony is one of love, then loss, then love again.” Sarina Murphy has become an influential advocate in the fight against domestic abuse. “Sarina has a tiny frame, but is a pillar of strength,” said Everett. “As a victim of domestic violence, Sarina has turned her story into one of inspiration that she now shares with other victims of domestic violence. Plus, with a daughter of her own it is personal, and she has built a platform for stopping the cycle of violence with education and prevention by arming young women with knowledge and resources.” Winning isn’t everything, but when winning comes wrapped beautifully in Tiffany blue - it sure feels like everything! All OTF award winners are gifted a crystal award created exclusively for Off The Field by Tiffany’s. Each award is hand sketched with the award winners name and OTF logo. “We have been blessed with a great long-standing relationship with Tiffany’s,” said Everett. “This year, Tiffany’s of Tampa International Plaza went above and beyond in making sure that all recipients felt the magnitude of being celebrated for their impact. We cannot thank Tiffany’s enough for sharing our passion and importance of these awards.”
"IT TAKES EACH OF US TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR ALL OF US."

WOMAN OF IMPACT AWARD
CANDY Candy DeBartolo is a successful businesswoman, generous philanthropist and passionate supporter of numerous charitable causes related to education, healthcare, sports and the military. Candy has always loved the idea of coming together around a great meal. So, when she moved to North Tampa from Ohio to find herself surrounded mostly by generic chain restaurants, she set out to fulfill a life-long dream of bringing people together around something that has always united people: food. Candy created Sacred Pepper, a Contemporary American restaurant with an Italian flare, to not only offer deliciously bold twists on old favorites in a welcoming atmosphere, but also to offer a helping hand. The restaurant supports the community and charities closest to her heart by hosting several charity events, including a Celebrity Bartender Night Benefiting the Marine Corps Scholarship Fund. Candy values the real difference that charities can make in the lives of so many and is glad that Sacred Pepper can be a place that the community can call their own. In addition to Sacred Pepper, Candy is a founding member of the DeBartolo Family Foundation, a nonprofit organization
committed to improving the lives of the Tampa Bay area’s most underserved populations. The philanthropic efforts of the Foundation are driven by the members of the DeBartolo family, and rooted in the strong family values that have helped them not just find success in business but leave a lasting impact on communities and the people within them. Candy resides in Tampa, Fla., with her husband, Pro Football Hall of Fame owner Eddie DeBartolo, Jr. They have three daughters, Lisa Marie, Tiffanie Lynne, Nicole Anne and three grandsons, Asher, Milo and Jasper. "When Off The Field requested nominations for the Women of Impact Award, I had already been encouraged by the outpouring of love Candy has for the Tampa community. I felt that honoring her for the positive impact she has had on all of us would be a wonderful way to celebrate her efforts. Candy is the cornerstone of her family, an exceptional mother, grandmother, wife, friend and an amazing role model for player wives all around the league", said Angela Smith, 20th Annual Off The Field Players' Wives Association Charity Fashion Show Chair.

WOMAN OF OF IMPACT IMPACT AWARD AWARD WOMAN
LAUREN Lauren Dungy has been a vibrant part of the Tampa Bay landscape since arriving here in 1996. While her life is full as wife and mother of eleven children, her passion for her community and her love for people, spills over into a variety charitable projects that revolve around three central themes —Christian outreach, education, and children. A woman of deep faith, Lauren is a member of Grace Family Church where she is involved in children’s ministries, leading bible studies and Grace's community outreach. In 2012 she launched the Iron Sharpeners, a running group dedicated to helping women develop physically and spiritually. She has led them in competing in numerous running and triathlon events. Lauren is a former elementary school teacher who is passionate about education. As Vice President of The Dungy Family Foundation, which helps meet the educational, social and spiritual needs of the underserved, she created and launched the foundation's reading program, through which volunteers visit elementary schools and community centers to read and donate books. She and her husband Tony regularly visit Title 1 schools in the Tampa area to read to, engage and inspire our younger students. With eleven children of her own, it is clear that Lauren loves kids, and she is passionate about doing all she can to help. In addition to her involvement with her church’s children’s ministry and Foundation’s reading program, she and Tony are co-authors of eleven children’s books. Their first book, You Can Be A Friend, is a New York Times best-seller and
winner of the 2012 NAACP Image Award. Lauren’s dedication to local children led her to partner with Tanya Kimble of WeeSeeU to develop a ministry to area students from elementary through college. This organization provides support, mentoring, supplies, and scholarship assistance to students throughout the Tampa Bay Area. Lauren is also a devoted advocate for the Florida Foster Care system. Besides being a foster parent herself, she spends countless hours speaking and raising awareness for foster care and adoption in the area. She and Tony are currently writing a book that will inspire and guide others in ways to love and care for children in our community. In addition to all of these activities, Lauren still finds time to volunteer at Tampa Bay area schools and speak at local churches, women’s events, and other fund-raisers. Born Lauren Harris in Sewickley, Pennsylvania, Lauren graduated from Quaker Valley High School. She earned her degree from Duquesne University in Elementary Education and then taught school in her hometown for six years. While teaching, she met her husband, Tony Dungy, then an assistant coach with the Pittsburgh Steelers football team. He would go on to become the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, later the Indianapolis Colts and currently NBC analyst. Football would take their family from Pittsburgh to Kansas City, to Minneapolis, and finally to Tampa where they currently reside. The Dungys are the parents of daughters Tiara, Jade and Jaela, and sons James, Eric, Jordan, Justin, Jason, Jalen, Jaden, and Juewel.

MITZI Mitzi Testaverde embraces her role as wife and mother. She and her husband, Vinny who played 21 years in the NFL, with the Buccaneers, Browns, Ravens, Jets, Cowboys, back to the Jets, Patriots, and Panthers, have three children, Alicia, Vincent, Jr., and Madeleine. She humbly acknowledges the fact that the family was right by Vinny’s side in every city he played, which meant packing and unpacking the household every six months to remain together during his journeyman career. Oftentimes, Mitzi was the glue who kept the family together. Mitzi realized they were blessed in the opportunities that kept coming to Vinny and it resulted in the ability to support him wherever he went. While young parents to their oldest daughter Alicia, they experienced a difficult second pregnancy. After having fertility issues, they were finally expecting twins. During this time, they lost one of the babies but she was told to carry the pregnancy to term to avoid jeopardizing the remaining baby. Mitzi acknowledged that it was a dark time in their lives
to experience that kind of loss. All of which occurred during the infamous Browns move from Cleveland to Baltimore. In the end, they were blessed with an healthy, perfect baby boy, Vincent, Jr. These days, Mitzi serves as a Guardian Ad Litem, a court appointed child advocate in Hillsborough County. She is active in the Tampa community helping abused and neglected children have a voice and find a loving home. In her free time, you’ll find her working out with the girls; hitting the ball over the tennis net with her club team; or, on a round of golf with the family. Mitzi fulfilled God’s purpose for her life with enthusiasm and zeal. The Testaverde’s are a close knit family who serve their community. She raised the children to be humble people, be kind towards others, and have a grateful soul. “We live a boring, healthy and happy life.” Proverbs 3:5-6 is a familiar passage to many and Mitzi says it is her mantra. "Trust in the LORD with all your heart; and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct your paths."

SARINA Sarina Murphy, also known as Sarina Renee, is a former NFL wife and the loving mother of her teenage daughter Sa’mya Renee. The domino effect of being in an abusive relationship may render your mind powerless to discernment and resolution. Sarina witnessed the toxicity cascade in her marriage from verbal, to emotional, then financial, and finally physical abuse. She mustered up the inescapable strength to take action and picked up the phone and dialed 911. An unexpected turn of events left Sarina incarcerated and her adolescent daughter homeless. Hampered with physical scars on her back, hate in her heart, and a wounded mind, Sarina questioned God. It was then that He told her to remember the Bible story of Joseph. Have faith through our trials knowing that God will deliver us in the glory of His justice. Sarina knew her message would inspire others. She reclaimed her power by telling her story. Sarina believed sharing her experience helped heal other women in similar circumstances. She encouraged residents at women shelters to keep pushing. She spoke to women in similar circumstances. She
encouraged residents at women shelters. She encouraged to keep pushing. She spoke openly to the young women at girls homes and taught them the signs to look for in an abusive partner. Sarina is a survivor that thrives with grace and faith. She is an advocate and motivational speaker for domestic violence awareness and she aims to enlighten women on the signs of narcissistic behavior. From 2017-2018, she served on the event board for the Spring of Tampa Bay Domestic Violence Women Center. She gave a powerhouse speech at the first annual Women of the NFL Set the Example Conference in 2017. Domestic violence is a personal issue and it’s society’s secret. So many women think they are alone. Sarina reassures them that they are not the only ones going through this and that we must talk about it. We must remove the stigma of embarrassment to have a chance to address the problem. Sarina finds time and energy to concentrate on her film career; work as a media correspondent; engage in social justice causes; nurture ‘Aniras Spices’ her successful upstart business; and, manages her daughter’s modeling career.
