local,

With a new year, there is always a moment of reflection and forward-thinking. Here at Oh18, we love to take a look back and see how things began and where they are now. We consider ourselves dreamers and believers so it's always exciting to see the positive growth we watched start as a small seed. And, we are here to tell you, the year 2022 was not a disappointment. Our town saw so much growth and movement in the past year, it's a little overwhelming at times to think of how much as happened.

One thing is certain, we aren't done yet! We've been hearing about more new businesses moving to town, mature businesses who are planning to revamp and people coming to town simply to invest and make things happen. In this issue of Oh18, we take a look at what's new in Chickasha and what's coming soon. We hope you feel the excitement as you flip through these pages! We could hardly believe the words we were writing as we gathered all of the information.

There is no doubt in my mind 2023 is going to be a phenomenal year for our city and the towns surrounding us. As always, we cannot wait to see what happens and to support each and every business/organization to the best of our ability.

Best wishes in the new year!

THE HISTORY OF CHICKASHA'S

Chickasha Hotel

The Chickasha Hotel, located on 102 North 2nd Street, was built in the early 1900s with 40 rooms. Through expansions, the hotel grew from 40 to over 150 rooms.

Gene Autry and the entire 1957 Notre Dame football team are just some of the early patrons to experience the hotel.

As time went on The Oklahoma Housing Finance Agency assisted the owners with redesigning the upper floors to be apartment style housing and restoring the building back to its original form.

The building went through a multi-million dollar renovation and is now open as The Chickasha Hotel Apartments.

Stepping through the doors today is a small glance into the past as you view the original flooring and replicas of the original ceiling.

Before it had the name “The Chickasha Hotel” it had many names before, such as the Josephine, Albany Hotel, Harvard Hotel and Cheaney Hotel.

MEMORY LANE

When looking back at your fondest memories of Chickasha it can send you down memory lane for days. At least it did for Chickasha's Kimmy Loggins.

From riding the mechanical horse at Dunn's Grocery to visiting the animals at Shannon Springs Park - even going to the movies at Washita Theatre, it was hard for Kimmy to pick a favorite memory. She recalls spending time racing in skates at Twyla's Skating Rink at the old Armory, which is now the YMCA.

"The best part was going up the stairs in your roller skates to get to the bathrooms."

Creamy Italian Sausage & Tortellini

warm · hearty · filling

Ingredients Preparation

Step 1

Heat olive oil in a 12-inch skillet over medium heat. When the oil is very hot, add the onions. Add sausage to pan and use a spatula to break up the sausage into bite-sized pieces.

Step 2

Increase heat to medium-high and cook, stirring occasionally, until the sausage is browned. Reduce heat to low, then add the garlic and stir until fragrant, about 30 seconds.

Step 3

Add broth, tomatoes, cream, and tortellini to the skillet. Stir to combine. Increase heat and bring to a boil.

Step 4

Cover, then reduce the heat and simmer for 15 minutes until tortellini are tender and heated through. Add salt & pepper (as directed or more to taste)

Step 5

Add spinach and stir until softened and wilted. Remove from heat, top with shredded Parmesan and serve!

1 TBSP olive oil

• 1 medium onion diced

• 1 lb Italian sausage (your choice of mild or hot)

• 2-3 cloves garlic, minced

• 3/4 cup chicken broth

1 (14.5 ounce) can petite diced tomatoes

• 1/2 cup heavy cream

• 9 oz tortellini (fresh or frozen)

• 1 tsp salt and pepper

• 2 cups fresh baby spinach, loosely packed

• Shredded parm
