Hometown sound
Born in Lawton and later raised in Fletcher by her now adoptive parents, Dani tributes her start and love for music to her parents, Carole and Carl Douglas. From starting in the Apache Cowboy Church choir to guitar lessons with Lynn Moon, she has been hooked on the local music scene.
Dani describes her music as soft rock/ country inspired by true life events. She takes her pain and uses it to help others forget about theirs. You can catch Dani performing across Southwest Oklahoma across the North Texas border. Her favorite artists to cover are Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac, but mainly she just enjoys bringing a nostalgic feeling to the audience.

One of the primary advantages of shopping locally for back-to-school items is the ability to support small businesses within our community. Local retailers featured here are family-owned and operated. This means incredible customer service! By purchasing from these stores, you contribute directly to the local economy, helping to create jobs and stimulate growth. In turn, this allows our friends' businesses to thrive and continue to serve their Chickasha in a very needed role.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND PERSONAL CONNECTIONS
Beyond the economic impact, shopping locally also enhances a sense of community engagement. Unlike big-box stores, local businesses offer a personalized shopping experience where you can interact directly with owners and staff. They provide attentive customer service and are willing to go the extra mile to meet your specific needs. Building these personal connections not only enhances your shopping experience but also helps cultivate a sense of belonging and connection to your community.

Small Town Stories
Grady County Fair
It's Fair Time in Grady County! Grady County's first free fair started in September 1913. After searching for land accessible by the public, County Agent Cooper struck up a deal with Mr. WA Hopkins to use his private land on the southern edge of Chickasha. The first fair consisted of a tent filled with boards on sawhorses as make shift tables to display goods. Mr. Hopkins' land would later become what is now known as Shannon Springs Park.
The fair later moved north of Chickasha until 1938 when WPA constructed actual wooden structures
on today's fairgrounds. These buildings changed the trajectory of the fair into what it is now.
The fair continues to be a staple annual event thousands enjoy every year. Over the years, the fair has grown from displays of goods to livestock events, tractor pulls, pageants, vendor booths, various contests, carnival rides and, of course, great fair foods! There is something fun for the entire family.
Grady County Free Fair continues to improve year after year. Don't miss 2023's Fair, August 24-26.

Exhibits from Tuttle's 4-H Club
New WPA buildings on Grady County Fair Grounds
When looking back at your fondest memories of Chickasha it can send you down memory lane for days. Enjoy these sweet memories from Rick Johnston
"I have wonderful memories of downtown Chickasha. I remember our family eating at David’s Cafe in the 50’s then walking down Chickasha Avenue where, in the summer, the Dixie, Kresses, McClellans, and other stores had the front doors propped open so the refrigerated air rushing out would draw us in. Most people didn’t have that at home then.
Each store was a special place. The Kress store, McClellans, and Ben Franklin sold everything from dress patterns for the seamstress in the family to toys and pet turtles for the kids. Gilkey Hardware had the biggest cash register I’d ever seen, all chrome and brass with many drawers for the various clerks to make change. I was fascinated by that. I thought the Dixie must be the biggest fanciest store in the whole world. The children’s department on the second floor was where my mom would take us to get “Sunday” clothes. Each store was an experience all in itself. It’s hard to remember a favorite."

Beautiful Day Foundation
Beautiful Day Foundation was founded to bring joy to children and enforce the fact they matter. Once a month, Beautiful Day hosts a birthday party in elementary schools celebrating each child who has a birthday during the month. The goal is to make every child feel loved, supported and connected.
The birthday program was such a hit, the founders decided to expand their program to include widows. Every month, the Kindred Community invites these women to have a meal together and share their experiences. Bonds are created and women leave knowing their community values them.
"The power of knowing you matter...Now THAT could really change a person's life."
