RESOLUTIONS The start of a new year usually comes with New Year’s Resolutions. One resolution most Americans make is to save more money than in past years. Yet, somehow when an unplanned expense arises or Christmas time comes around again- those funds are nowhere to be found…. shocking I know! We are here to support this resolution by noting some simple money-saving tips to show that saving isn’t as hard as we all may think.
Start off by making a budget. List every monthly expense vs all monthly income. This will help you see where and how much money you are spending on bills. It will also give you an opportunity to cut some of those unnecessary costs; example- those 5 streaming services when you’re only watching 2 of them. Or how about that $6 cup of coffee you pick up on the way to work every morning?

PICK A GOAL
The very first thing you need to do is pick a savings goal. Do you want to save for an emergency fund? An exotic vacation? Down payment on a home? A new car? No matter how big or small it is, setting a goal is great motivation to stick with it.
3 UTILITY CHECK
2
TIME TO BUDGET
Want to learn more about saving and budgeting? Contact Bank of Commerce.
Of course utilities are a necessity, but really take a look at your utility bills. Some easy ways to reduce your utility bills and make your house greener can be as simple as turning off the lights every time you leave a room or unplugging electronic devices and appliances that aren’t being used. Check your windows to see if the warm or cool air you pay for is escaping. You may need to add calking, shrink wrap, or hang up some blackout curtains.
4
PAY YOURSELF
After you make a budget and cut out the unnecessary expenses, the next step is to pay yourself. How do you pay yourself? Let me explain. After paying your bills, the remaining amount is your monthly net income. From your net income, set a monthly amount for “fun” funds. Pay yourself that amount to spend on whatever you want, like that new outfit from the boutique you follow on Facebook or a night out with friends. The remaining part of your monthly net income is the amount you put into a savings account. This is where your savings actually starts!
5
AUTO SWEEP
For an easier way to make sure you aren’t tempted to use your allocated savings dollars set up an automatic sweep with your financial institution. If your paycheck is electronically deposited into your checking account, set up a sweep for the monthly amount you’ve budgeted to save. You won’t even notice the money being moved until you check your savings account one day and “Boom!” look at that dollar amount!
YOU'RE UNIQUE. YOUR BANK SHOULD BE, TOO!
6
WAYS TO SAVE Now- there are many other ways to save besides creating a budget and sweeping money. Try rounding up your bills and purchases to the next dollar amount. That loose change adds up! Send that pocket change to your savings account with the use of a banking app. Have a garage sale or take unwanted items to your local second-hand store. Social media has many creative ways to save and also offers multiple forums for selling your unwanted items. Just hop on Facebook, Pinterest, or even TikTok and find a savings plan that works for you!

hen looking for a place to live or to raise a family, people look at a variety of factors. So, let’s take a look as to why Chickasha, America is the perfect place to live. Recently, Grady County jumped 814 spots to claim the No. 2 ranking for Top Small Counties in the USA. At the heart of Grady County is Chickasha. Locals of Chickasha describe the town as having a much desired “small town feel” with the goals and stamina to support a big city – making it the perfect balance. You’ll definitely see the familiar faces of communitydriven locals while running in the grocery store or out playing puttputt. With the constant buzz in town, more and more businesses and organizations are looking to find a home in Chickasha.

ne of the biggest charms Chickasha has to offer is the existing housing. There are many older, vintage, if you will, houses with a rich history. This element in housing gives Chickasha a special charm not available in every city. Our local Century 21 has been a part of Chickasha since 1952 giving our housing and real estate market a deep sense of community. When you buy or sell a house through Century 21, they make a point of being there for you long after the transaction is over. Century 21 works with you, shops with you and socializes with you. By sticking with a C21 realtor who lives in Chickasha, you have the peace of mind knowing they understand the town you’re moving to and your money is filtered back into the community only allowing more growth.

big step in this growth includes the construction of new homes and an apartment complex off Grand. With these changes comes a new upscale, gated community, The Homes at Redbud Ridge, currently under construction and conveniently located near Hwy 81. The idea of The Homes at Redbud Ridge was sparked by Chickasha’s own Tim Crawford, his son David and daughter Shayla with inspiration from their good friend, Jim Parker. With the help of First National Bank and Trust and Chickasha Economic Development Council, this 50-lot subdivision will be Chickasha’s first gated community.
The vision of Redbud is to “Cultivate Chickasha” by offering upscale housing in a convenient area of town and offering a private playground to residents of the gated community as an added bonus. Development of the property has already begun with roads paved, curbs set and the sewer lines run. Construction crews are busy installing water, completing the front entrance and new homes will be breaking ground beginning in March. Sun Custom Homes, one of the approved builders, will be completing the show home showcasing what will be available to those interested in purchasing a plat.
Lots are currently available for purchase. Follow the Live Plat Map on redbudridgehomes.com/plat.

What's rending
HOME DECOR
With the change of the seasons, it's a perfect time to change up your living space. To help keep your home up with the latest trends, we've gathered a few tips from our local experts. Decorating your home with simplicity and focusing on scents seems to be the overlapping consensus. Using colors with earthy tones, such as sage green and rose terracotta, are on the rise. And, although the farmhouse look is still trending, the use of a more traditional style with a touch of romantics is returning.

How do you achieve this new style? Think light and airy. Start by decorating your table or mantle with unique candlesticks and candle holders. This will add the perfect romantic feel. Focusing on a simpler look for your place setting will provide a clean look for your dining area. Perrefitte has a great new line of dishes in multiple earthy tones to help you achieve this feel.

The farmhouse look is evolving to Bohemian farmhouse with more dark and moody tones, earthy and natural wood accents and hints of gold. Okie Mountain can has all the simple touches you need to keep your farmhouse look up to date. Using a splash of terracotta or wicker adds a unique texture to your room which is trending heavily in home decor. Greenery is still standing strong with more focus on olive trees.

It's no surprise simplicity goes hand-in-hand with clean scents. Many of the high-end candle lines have come out with laundry and cleaning products for your home. These products do a great job of cleaning, while smelling fabulous and making your daily chores much more fun! Ross Hardware carries both the Tyler Candle Company and Capri Blue cleaning line and candles. A splurge here and there on these everyday products really makes a difference in how you view your to-do list.

Spring Startups One of the main purposes of the Chickasha Economic Development Council (EDC) is to help families and businesses feel at home and find success in a thriving community. There are an abundant amount of resources the EDC offers to citizens of Chickasha who are interested in starting their own business. If you are wanting to start a business with a storefront in Chickasha, you may be eligible to participate in the Chickasha Small Business Start-Up Program. Some of the incentives in this program include assistance in rental or utility payments, discounted Chamber memberships and sales/marketing assistance. Chickasha's EDC can also assist new business entrepreneurs financially through the Chickasha Tourism Grant Program. To be eligible, the business would need to create revenue to contribute to the local economy by drawing in consumers from outside of the community. In efforts to grow our community, First National Bank and Trust (FNBT) also assists in the Chickasha Small Business Start-Up Program. Through this program, FNBT offers free business checking and first order of business checks. FNBT recently launched a new 3% Equipment Loan Program for businesses available now through June 2022. This is the perfect opportunity for new small businesses to get started or grow. The program could be exactly what you need to start out strong by assisting you in obtaining construction equipment, fleet vehicles, manufacturing equipment and ag equipment for your business.

Downtown and JD Sugg D
owntown Chickasha is coming back to life. Even before Oklahoma was a state, downtown Chickasha has been the heartbeat of town. The streets have seen many businesses and professionals throughout the years and J.D. Sugg had a big hand in downtown history. The cattle business brought J.D. Sugg from Mississippi, to Texas and eventually Chickasha, OK. Mr. Sugg was responsible for building the Petroleum Building and Sugg Theater in 1913. He also owned the Rialto and Kozy Theaters in Chickasha during the same time. The Petroleum Building still sits on the corner of 4th and Chickasha Avenue. Unfortunately, the Sugg Theater no longer exists.
Sugg Theater
Once built, the Petroleum Building was a central hub for business offices. Many doctors, lawyers, barbers, dentists and other professionals had their offices within the building. It also housed the very first First National JD Sugg 38 \\ MARCH-APRIL 2022
Bank. Later, First National would move down the block and Nichols Bank moved into the Petroleum Building. A main attraction within the building was the Rexall Drug Store which is now the Bookstore on the Corner.
never determined, but was a complete loss. The last movie to play in the Theater was “The Women.” After the fire, the marquee read ““The Women” Burned This Theater.”
The Sugg Theater was built directly behind the Petroleum Building. General admission was 35 cents, but ticket holders could opt for more luxury boxed seating upstairs closer to the stage. This theater was more than just a movie theater. The Sugg had live plays, singers, comedians and even a runway show. The Dixie, located further down on Chickasha Avenue, had a live runway show to showcase their clothing.

JD Sugg had a car used to advertise for Chickasha Publix Theaters; Rialto, Sugg and Kozy. This car actually drove coast to coast for publicity of the theaters. It even had a water bag strapped to the front of the car when crossing through the desert.
The Sugg Theater was bought by the Washita Theater. The Washita Theater had not taken over for long when the building burnt down in 1939. The cause of the fire was

Spring Cleaning
Organizing Tips Tray Trick Let's face it, we all have one place (maybe two) we tend to drop items when we come in the door. Whether it's the kitchen counter or entry table, use a tray or bin to contain the items - when it begins to overflow, it's time to tidy up.
Let Go One of the most difficult tasks when organizing is knowing when it's time to let go. Rather than thinking of when you may need an item, try to reframe the situation and determine when the last time was you used it. If it's been a while, it may be time to let it go.
Rethink Everything It's easy to place items when you move and never rethink their location. Are you digging in lower cabinets for your most used kitchen tools or tip-toeing to reach your towels in the bathroom? It may be time to move your most use items to a prime location.
The Fridge Don't forget the refrigerator. Have you ever brought groceries home to find you have no room in your fridge? Turntables and bins can be a gamechanger when it comes to organizing and creating new space in your cold box.
Take Something It's easy to leave clutter with the mindset, "I'll get it later." Instead, take something with you each time you leave a room. If you pick up a toy or cup when you are moving from one space to another, you'll have little-to-no clutter left around the house.
