A YEAR TO REMEMBER Wow! I can't believe one year ago, I was writing the very first staff letter for Issue One of Oh18 Magazine. What a fantastic year, filled with surprises and more support than we could have ever imagined! It's no surprise we love our hometown, but as we've had the opportunity to dig deeper into the inner workings of Chickasha, we've found an even bigger passion for this community. The business owners, organization leaders and people who make this town turn are honestly one in a million. The heart they have for Chickasha has created a firm foundation which can't be rocked. Our goal is to simply continue to come alongside them and help build them up.

One Year WHAT A WILD RIDE! When Oh18 started in 2020 as a Facebook page to simply encourage and inform locals, we never could have guessed it would turn into an avenue to express the passion we have for our hometown. In May of 2021, we were able to launch the very first Oh18 Magazine. Our goal was to instill value and strength in our community based on what our city had to offer. Our mission was to promote local organizations and people. So much has changed in one year, but our goal and mission remains the same. We are here to be supportive! We would love nothing more than to see our small town become a booming entertainment region with flourishing restaurants, events busting at the seams and retailers unable to keep up with demand. And, we are well on our way! Chickasha is currently a city on the move. In one year, we've seen so much growth and forward movement, it's almost hard to believe. There is a bright outlook beginning to take over and the community mindset is shifting toward positivity more and more every day. We are incredibly proud to call Chickasha our hometown and humbled to have the
opportunity to work alongside our local businesses and organizations. These small shops and locally owned businesses are what makes our community unique. They are the foundation of growth and we love supporting them in any possible way we are able. As we reflect on one year of producing Oh18 Magazine, we can't help but feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude and excitement. Gratitude to those who have shown us support and shown us how to be unafraid to reach higher and excitement to look toward the future as we plan to dig into new ventures with Oh18. There are no words to express how much we appreciate every reader of this publication and supporter of Oh18. We are so blessed and ready to take on another year with each and every one of you!

HVAC • ELECTR I C • P LU M B I N G
VA N DYC K M EC H A N I C A L
CREATURE COMFORTS HVAC, electric and plumbing systems in your home or business are often taken for granted, but are usually the costliest building components to service or replace. In today’s economic climate of ever rising prices and supply chain difficulties, it is no surprise those systems will be affected, adding additional strains to budgets in the event of a required replacement or repair.
36 \\ MAY-JUNE 2022
SO HOW DO YOU STRETCH YOUR CREATURE COMFORT DOLLAR AS FAR AS POSSIBLE? There are several steps all property owners should take to ensure small repairs don’t turn into big repairs or system replacements. Many of these steps will also reduce utility consumption and therefore operation costs as well. Seasonal HVAC maintenance or tune ups are important in the long run, despite the popular belief it's a potential waste of money. A seasonal tune up consists of a trained and qualified HVAC technician cleaning and checking all parts of your heating and cooling system. These checks go far beyond hosing a coil down and changing air filters. There are numerous electrical components in your system or operating pressures in the refrigerant circuit that, if not in tolerance, can result in major component failure as well as a huge waste of energy dollars. Clean coils and filters are important too, but don’t let the more technical aspects of your system's operation be overlooked. In most cases some minor repairs and the cost of maintenance visits will be offset by utility savings and reduced repairs. Van Dyck Mechanical offers a seasonal, no breakdown guarantee after performing a tune up along with the ability to spread maintenance costs out with monthly payments.
The most overlooked aspect of building maintenance is the electrical system. Who ever thinks about calling an electrician to simply check things out? The truth is, over time, electrical connections in hidden places such as the breaker box, meter base or even outlets in the wall become loose and can result in failure of components. If you have lights that dim when large appliances come on in your home, this is your clue something likely needs addressed. Tightening a lug or connection is undoubtedly cheaper than replacing a panel or repairing fire damage. The bottom line is we are all trying to stretch our dollar further today than ever before, while everything seems to be becoming more expensive. HVAC, plumbing and electrical parts, equipment and supplies are increasing in price at an alarming rate - more than double what they were 5 years ago. Due to these price increases we asked ourselves at Van Dyck Mechanical how to be the most relevant for customers needs?
Our conclusion was to adapt service for our customers' older equipment and systems as long as possible and make repairs which address the root cause of an issue as often as possible. In this way, we don't just treat symptoms of a bigger The cheapest service is not always the best service. issue. Grady County Fairgrounds
efore the Grady County Fairgrounds existed, Chickasha held the first Free Fair September 8-10, 1913 at Shannon Springs Park. A large tent was pitched in the park for exhibits to be displayed. A contract was drawn up May 11, 1921 between the Chickasha Park and City of Chickasha. The City of Chickasha purchased 40 acres of land with Chickasha Park agreeing to build a half mile race track, barns, stables, athletic fields and buildings to hold fairs and stock shows. Photos exist showing there once was a horse race track at the current fairgrounds, but little is known as to why this no longer exists. Originally, the structures for the fairgrounds were built from wood. By the late 1930s, the main north and south buildings we know today, were built around courtyards. This provided space for displays in the north building and animal exhibits in the south. By 1940, the fairgrounds became a Works Progress Administration
