Rock Island Depot R

regularly. Farmers and ranchers from the area used the depot to ship large volumes of freight each month and created jobs to many locals.

Constructed in 1910, the Rock Island Depot is a large part of Chickasha's history, success and growth. At the time it was built, passenger trains brought people to town

Still on display today, you can view BN Caboose #12097 outside of the depot along with some of the area's first fire trucks.

ock Island Depot began in 1892 as a boxcar. The rail line crossed the Washita River in 1892 which is when Chickasha was founded to serve as a passenger and rail freight station. When Chickasha become a prominent stop, Rock Island added a dining space, hotel and barber shop for passengers stopping on their way through.

The Spanish style clay roof, stucco brickwork, gabled top and adornments surrounding the building make this an iconic location for Chickasha.
