Why ODU? Ohio Dominican University is located in the heart of Columbus, Ohio, which is home to several top health care systems, including Mount Carmel Hospitals, Nationwide Children’s Hospital and OhioHealth. Your advisor can help you connect with internships and shadowing opportunities in the area. State-of-the-Art Facilities Ohio Dominican’s 25,000-square-foot science center, Battelle Hall, provides seven instructional labs, three research labs, six instrument labs and a cadaver lab. Collaborative workspaces allow you and your classmates to discuss projects with your professors outside of the classroom. St. Albert Hall, our science building, offers an additional 22,000 square feet of laboratory and research rooms, and a second cadaver lab. Our facilities attract science majors, including students who pursue Biology and Chemistry degrees to get into professional programs in the health sciences. Affordable Liberal Arts Education The average aid package – including scholarships, grants, loans and work-study – for 2014-2015 was $35,140. Incoming freshmen are eligible for up to $19,000 in merit scholarship money. Your Area of Study Early Assurance Programs Physician Assistant Early Assurance About the program: Physician assistants are advanced practice providers who practice medicine in physiciansupervised primary care and on specialty patient-focused teams. A select number of qualified high school seniors are chosen for early admission to our Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies Program. They can earn their undergraduate and graduate degrees in just six years. What’s required? Minimum admission requirements to the Physician Assistant Early Assurance Program include admission to Ohio Dominican through the general admission process and two letters of recommendation. Admission is available only to a select number of high school students with a grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher, and who have scored at least 28 on their ACT. Medical School Early Assurance About the program: As a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.), you can practice in any medical specialty, including orthopedics, obstetrics, surgery, family medicine, psychiatry or pediatrics. Our partnership with the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (OU-HCOM) assures a select number of outstanding first-year students admission to OU-HCOM. What’s required? Only a select number of first-time freshmen will be considered for the Med-School Early Assurance program. Minimum admission requirements include admission to ODU through the general admission process. You must have a minimum high school grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, two letters of recommendation, and a minimum composite score of 28 on the ACT or 1250 to 1280 on the SAT, math and verbal. Undergraduate Programs Exercise Science About the program: With a degree in Exercise Science, you will be prepared for a career in strength and conditioning/personal training. You also can pursue professional degree programs in the health sciences such as medicine (M.D. and D.O.), physical therapy, occupational therapy and physician assistant. Our students have been successful in gaining admission to many of the best programs in the country, including University of Kentucky, University of Toledo, The Ohio State University, University of Louisville, South Carolina Medical School, Ohio University and University of Tennessee. Minimum admission requirements include admission to ODU through the general admission process, including a 2.3 minimum high school grade point average (GPA) and a minimum composite score of 18 on the ACT or 1250 to 1280 on the SAT, math and verbal. Pre-Nursing Program with Mount Carmel College of Nursing About the program: You can choose from three options to earn your Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Each option will place you directly into Mount Carmel College of Nursing’s competitive and recognized nursing program. What’s required? Minimum admission requirements include admission to ODU through the general admission process, which includes a minimum 2.3 GPA and a composite ACT score of 18. For admission to Mount Carmel College of Nursing, you must have at least a 3.0 GPA and a grade of C or better in all pre-requisite courses. For information, visit ohiodominican.edu/PreNursing. Taking Your Degree Further Graduate Programs Master of Science in Exercise Science We will introduce our Master of Science in Exercise Science program in 2016. You’ll get an advanced study of the physiological basis of human physical performance. You also can choose from one of two options: • Design and complete a master’s-level research project that you can present at a national conference; or • Complete a comprehensive review of literature for a research proposal; once you’ve passed a comprehensive exam, you can then complete an internship in a field of your choosing. Master of Science in Medical Practice Management About the program: You’ll develop skills and competencies for managerial positions in medical practice, and other health services organizations and facilities. You’ll also gain a clear understanding of health care law, regulations and economics. What’s required? Admission requirements include a 3.0 GPA in your undergraduate degree program from a regionally accredited institution, or a 2.75 GPA in the last 60 semester hours of your bachelor’s degree program from a regionally accredited institution and at least two years of professional experience. Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies About the program: In our Physician Assistant (PA) Studies program, students participate in simulation cases and patient care experiences in their didactic phase to prepare them for clinical rotations. We are dedicated to fulfilling our program mission of graduating competent physician assistants that will collaborate with physicians and impact health care in Central Ohio and beyond. Our inaugural class had a 98-percent, first-time pass rate on its Physician Assistant National Certification Board Exam and a 100-percent employment rate. What’s required? Admission requirements include a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 overall and science GPA on a 4.0 scale, a minimum of 250 hours of documented patient-care experience and two letters of recommendation. For more information, visit ohiodominican.edu/MSPAS. Doctor of Physical Therapy About the program: We anticipate launching our Doctor of Physical Therapy program in 2017. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, this field is expected to experience a 38-percent growth rate by 2022.
