Our Master of Science in Healthcare Administration program will equip you with skills and competencies to help you prepare for an executive position within a healthcare organization. You will examine healthcare law, regulations, and economics, and be able to demonstrate strong leadership, analytic and decision-making skills. Our program also places an emphasis on strategic planning to help you respond to the dynamic business environment that now permeates the healthcare industry. Core Courses MBA 510 – Management Skills Portfolio In Management Skills, you will focus on personal skill and management competency assessment and development, and utilize a set of assessment instruments and techniques to help you identify areas for personal development and growth. This course contains multiple skill modules which address capabilities relevant to academic success in any business graduate program, including team, writing, creativity, research, presentations, project management, software and citation skills.

MHA 640 – Healthcare Economics * By applying economic analysis to decision-making in healthcare organizations, you will develop an understanding of the healthcare system and the markets for healthcare services. You will study important techniques essential for the effective management of a healthcare organization and exploration of new business opportunities, including demand and supply analysis, benefit and cost analysis, incentive analysis, and profit and market analysis.

MHA 520 – Healthcare Operations and Management * MHA 520 provides you with a thorough knowledge base of organization design, governance models and contemporary operations issues related to healthcare organizations. You will use various techniques as part of an integrated framework to set goals, implement strategies and evaluate healthcare operations. You also will explore the organizations and functions of the many non-physician personnel necessary to provide efficient healthcare delivery in today’s market.

MHA 660 – Ethics and Healthcare Services Management In MHA 660, you will review contemporary ethical issues in healthcare services management. This course is designed to promote ethical awareness, knowledge and skills. This course will present the fundamental principles of the teaching of the Catholic Church on medicine and healthcare. Course work will focus on the analysis of many complex ethical issues encountered by healthcare administrators, policy makers and practitioners.

MHA 540 – Healthcare Informatics * Healthcare Informatics provides you the knowledge and skills in order to analyze documentation, and manage the use of health information. You will discuss topics, including HIPAA, meaningful use of health technology and the advantages of an electronic health record.

MHA 670 – Risk Management in Healthcare You will focus on the theories, concepts and principles of healthcare risk management and development of an integrated approach to healthcare risk management. You will examine current trends and issues, design and management of healthcare risk management systems, and apply evidence-based knowledge to analyze the design and implementation of healthcare risk management systems.

MHA 560 – Legal and Regulatory Aspects of Healthcare Management * By studying the laws and regulations applicable to healthcare management, you will become acquainted with federal and state legislation and reporting requirements related to the delivery of health services and products. An emphasis is placed on business applications of health law and regulation. MHA 612 – Strategic Human Resource Management and Employment Law You will discuss strategic planning in regard to organizing and controlling the performance of various activities concerned with procuring, developing, maintaining and utilizing a labor force so that the objectives and purposes of the organization are accomplished efficiently and effectively. You also will review and evaluate strategic management responsibilities in the field of labor and personnel relations, including the role that law, economics, behavior science and culture play in labor and management relations. MHA 620 – Marketing and Public Relations in Healthcare In MHA 620, you will study strategies for healthcare organization communication and marketing, including patient and third-party relations, strategies and communications for better community health, and the development and analysis of market data relevant to the healthcare entity. You will discuss the importance of developing a unique identity for the healthcare organization and the various ways to sell that entity to patients and other referral sources. MHA 630 – Healthcare Finance* By reviewing cash and accrual accounting methods as well as various financial reports, you will develop the skills necessary to gauge the financial health of a healthcare organization. You will discuss cash flow management, payables management, filing insurance claims, including coding and accounts receivable management. You also will explore the differences in billing to insurance companies, Medicare, Medicaid and private individuals.

MBA 680 – Leadership and Change Management Leadership and Change Management provides you the models, perspectives, competencies and tools necessary to provide leadership in changing environments. You will assess your ability in a variety of core leadership components, including individual leadership traits, emotional intelligence and change management skills. You also will construct an individual leadership development plan by utilizing course readings, skill assessment tools and case studies. Prerequisites for MHA students: 24 credits of MHA courses, including MHA 510. Not open to students with credit for MBA 725.

Complete ONE of the following: • MHA 600 – Practicum • MHA 720 – Independent Project • A course from another Ohio Dominican University graduate program approved by the program director or chair of the Division of Business.
