Letter from the Editor Hi, Oceanside High School Key Club! Happy November! Welcome to the fourth edition of the Oceanside High School Key Club Newsletter! I can't believe how much time has passed already- the first quarter ended this month! I hope everyone was pleasantly surprised at their report cards. This month, I turned seventeen! I had a great time celebrating my birthday with my family- we went out for hotpot. Additionally, I received my first college acceptance this month, so yay, I'm going somewhere next year! Anyways, enough about me. This month really marks the start of the holiday season, where the Oceanside Key Club has helped to make a difference in the community through volunteering for the Turkey Shoot. In this newsletter, you will see information about Key Club's role in the Turkey Shoot as well as how we celebrated Key Club Week! Yours in service, Tiffany Chou

Key Club Week!
This year, Key Club Week was November 5th to November 9th, 2018. This year was the first year the Oceanside High School Key Club participated in it, so we were only able to participate for two days, but it was definitely a great first year doing Key Club Week! Monday- Show your K by wearing Key Club gear or by publicizing Key Club on your club social media! Tuesday- Show Kudos to the Key Players by thanking every Key Club supporters in your life, from board members to teachers and advisors, by writing thank you notes or going out of your way to show appreciations to these Key Players! Wednesday- Focus on the three preferred charities by Key Club International UNICEF, Children’s Miracle Network, and March of Dimes - by doing service projects for these organizations such as nonslip socks for a CMN hospital! Thursday- Spread happiness through your school by showing random acts of kindness from big things such as cards to your friends or fellow students to small things, such as holding the door open! Friday- Connect the K’s by performing service projects with other organizations in the Kiwanis community such as Builders Club, Circle K, and Kiwanis!
we wore our key club shirts on monday to "Show your K." Sadly, the picture we took is nowhere to be found :(
A google form was sent out asking Key club members to send a message thanking our advisors or our officers, here are some of the messages we received: u "Thank yo and s r e c i f f o !" ! s r o s i v d a

There is always, always something to be thankful for.
Turkey Shoot: Food Collection
Oceanside High School Key Club members stood outside the Atlantic Ave Stop & Shop for three hours asking members of the community to pick up a non-perishable item during their shopping trip and to bring it back when they finished shopping. This was a great way to collect food that would eventually be put into baskets the following Monday at school.
Turkey Shoot 2018
Turkey Shoot 2018 My name is Max Coppola, a 10th grader from Oceanside High School in Long Island, New York. This is my first year with Key Club, though not my first experience. However, I have previously been on the other end of it, working with charities to find individuals to help out. So, it was interesting to do some charitable work from this perspective. I participated in the Turkey Shoot. I had heard a lot about it, as it's kind of a big deal at OHS and throughout the community at large, so I was naturally excited to see what all the hype was about. The push for the event started by collecting items from students, teachers, and others in the community over a month before. Then, one day after school, many extracurricular groups gathered to do the actual event. It was awesome to see the athletics teams, the chess club, the thespian troupe, and everything in between come together for the greater good. The event itself physically consisted of hauling items from various locations to the cafeteria, sorting them, and then racing to fill the baskets. It was almost like we all made a big game out of it. Throughout the event, everybody just laughed and had a good time overall--it was a great vibe. I also learned a lot about how our School gives back to the community in ways I would never have known without Key Club.
OFFICER SPOTLIGHT: Barbara Barrios
me and Barbara at Fall Rally!
Barbara Barrios is currently serving her second term as the Secretary of the Oceanside High School Key Club. She has been involved in Key Club since her Freshman year. Barbara is a super organized person, and is part of the reason why Oceanside is doing so well in terms of paperwork submissions this year. She is also one of the kindest people I know. Barbara always attends our events with a smile on her face, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for hershe's going to do great things and we are lucky to have such an amazing Secretary this year!
NOVEMBER THEME:
HUNGER
WHAT HAS THE OCEANSIDE HIGH SCHOOL KEY CLUB DONE TO HELP LESSEN POVERTY? In the annual Turkey Shoot food drive, the OHS Key Club plays an integral role in both collecting food as well as organizing it. We always go to Stop & Shop the weekend before and ask members of the community to pick up something on our "Ideal Turkey Shoot Basket" list during their shopping trip, so we can collect non-perishable food items. We also volunteer to put the baskets together after school along with several other clubs and students in the school.
