True happiness is giving it away.

Letter from the Editor Hi, Oceanside High School Key Club! Boo! Did I scare you? Welcome to this spoooooky edition of the Oceanside High School Key Club Newsletter! I hope everything is going great with school so far and that you're enjoying all of our Halloween events. This month has been an eventful one for me. From working on my college applications and passing my road test (stay off the roads!), I finally am beginning to feel like a senior. It's still so crazy to me how much time has gone by. In this newsletter, there will be pictures of a ghost hidden throughout, see if you can spot them all! We had so many events this month, so this is a long one.

the ghost you are looking for!

Yours in service, Tiffany Chou

"My fellow Key Club members and I went to Tanglewood Preserve during the festive Halloween season to scare people. I decided to dress up as Pennywise the clown from the movie “It”. The movie “It” is one of my favorite horror films so I was excited to be able to dress up as it for this event.. My friends were zombies with blood stained shirts and scary masks. They knew I would be the star of the show. They were frightened by my costume and asked me to not wear the mask. I did anyway because it looked awesome and I wanted to stay in character. Other participants were wearing other scary costumes werewolves and slender man. All of us were planning on adding enthusiasm extremely scary maze. Even though I was rewarded with hours for this event, I would be happy to participate with no form of validation. A kind adult volunteer took us through the maze and showed us the special hiding spots that would make it easier scare the visitors. We had decided to chose the outdoor maze instead of the other options since the nature preserve added the natural elements of darkness. There were many spooky areas in the maze like small houses with flashing lights and narrow alleyways with large oak trees. We decided to stay by a fenced area which was very dark and gloomy. There were many fake zombies so people would be surprised by me, Pennywise standing behind them. Most visitors screamed and ran away when they saw me especially the young crowd. I would jump from behind a fence, stand still or do a fortnite dance. I got very creative with my actions since I was a colorful killer clown. I also said phrases like “Happy Halloween” or “Trick or Treat”. I laughed from the people’s reactions when I jump scared them. There was one young boy who was by himself and was fearless, he walked up to me and gave me a high five. This moment encouraged me to continue having fun throughout the long shift. This event is definitely my favorite Halloween activity besides trick or treating. The Tanglewood staff is very friendly and welcoming which definitely improved my experience. The table of volunteers gave me a sticker for my hours and were very polite. Also there were many vendors for food like ice cream and popcorn machines to attract and encourage visitors to attend this event. Overall, Spooky Fest is a great way to volunteer for Key Club whilst including the Oceanside community. I would recommend this to anyone who likes having fun with friends on the weekend and volunteering. I would also like to thank Mr. Zylbert and Mrs. Dejose for encouraging members to participate in Spooky Fest. Without a doubt I will attend Spooky Fest in the future. I tell everyone that joins Key Club to make sure to attend Spooky Fest."
