We are immensely proud that we can present to you the fourth edition of the Export Catalogue of the Polish Furniture Industry – it presents a great potential of the Polish furniture industry, thanks to which there are no geographical borders for our products. Furniture from Poland has been the synonym of the highest quality, modernity and great global design for many years and that is why it is eagerly chosen and appreciated by customers worldwide.

For many years the Polish furniture industry has been one of the leaders in furniture manufacturing on the international stage, occupying 6th place in the global ranking of furniture manufacturers. What is more, we occupy a very high position in the global ranking of furniture exporters – taking 2nd place just behind China. The value of the furniture market production in 2019 exceeded PLN 50 billion, which is a new record in the furniture industry! The Polish furniture industry plays a significant role in our domestic economy. In 2020, more than 30,000 companies connected with furniture manufacturing were registered in Poland, which offered direct employment to nearly 200,000 people. It is confirmed by a very high share of our sector in GDP, which has exceeded 2%. The global furniture market means continuous challenges that Polish furniture manufacturers have to face. The European market is slowly getting too small to make it possible for our industry to develop dynamically. That is why we have to be more open to new sales markets, also those more remote ones with different cultures. Obviously it is challenging, but Polish companies from the furniture industry are winning greater trust and are playing an increasingly significant role within the scope of international cooperation. As an example of such activity might be a participation of seven key Polish furniture brands at the stand in trade fairs in High Point, in the US. It was un unprecedented event. The year 2020 was a very difficult for the furniture industry. The ongoing SARS-COV-2 pandemic is a constant uncertainty about how our factories are run. We feel insecure, but also concern about the health of our relatives and employees, who are very important in furniture factories. We deeply hope that in a new year 2021, the new markets will be opened for Polish furniture and the great national strength of Polish furniture in the international arena will be proven. We also hope that the SARS-COV-2 pandemic will subside and that the furniture markets will again be stabilized and optimistic. The Polish furniture sector is an export leader

Recent years have proved that Poland is the global leader in the production and export of furniture. The high quality of the furniture manufactured in Poland and relatively low labour costs are the main factors contributing to this success. In addition, the many years’ tradition and efforts of large, medium-sized and small enterprises should not be forgotten. Data on production prove the success of the Polish furniture sector, and recently the country has moved up the global ranking of furniture manufacturers – from 10th to 6th position. The furniture industry remains one of the most significant sectors of the Polish economy. In 2019, the value of sold products of furniture companies amounted to PLN 50,1 bn, which accounts for as much as 6% growth compared to 2018 (including micro-enterprises with less than 10 employees). According to the forecasts by B+R Studio, the value of products sold by the furniture industry in 2020 will account for PLN 50.0 bn (including micro-enterprises).

The Polish furniture sector ranks second (after Italy) in terms of registered companies selling furniture. More than 29 thousand entities are involved in the manufacture of furniture in Poland - more specifically, at the end of 2019, the number was 29,456 companies. Out of these, 80 entities are large companies with more than 250 employees, 300 entities are medium-sized companies (50–249 employees), 1,500 are small companies and 27,576 account for micro-enterprises with less than 10 employees. Export is without doubt the major driving force for the Polish furniture sector. In 2019, Poland ranked 2nd in the global furniture manufacturers’ ranking due to its exports accounting for EUR 11.2 bn. According to the data published by UNO, as regards the value of export, in 2019 Poland was overtaken by China (USD 51 bn). According to Eurostat, 2019 is another year to generate record export of furniture. The value of export in Euro increased by 6%, accounting for EUR 11.2 bn. Over the last nine years, the value of export of Polish furniture increased by more than 85%. According to the forecasts by B+R Studio, in 2020 the value of furniture export from Poland will exceed EUR 11.3 bn.

Germany has been the main importer of Polish furniture for many years – EUR 3.958 bn. Export to the Czech Republic, the second largest importer, reached EUR 853 bn. Further positions are occupied by the UK and France.

Opportunities for the Polish furniture sector Poland is one of the fastest growing countries in terms of furniture production. Its perfect geographical location near the wealthy Western European countries gives it competitive advantage over many other countries. Its long tradition and well established position among recipients of furniture in Europe give the Polish furniture manufacturers customers’ trust and brand awareness. About OIGPM An initiative to establish an Economic Self-government in the furniture industry was born in 1993. In December 1993, a Founding Group met and appointed the Organizing Committee from among its members. The Committee was composed of representatives of the following furniture manufacturers: Meblarska Spółdzielnia Pracy “DąB” from Gdynia, Fabryki Mebli “MEBLEX” from Łęka Opatowska, Wielkopolskie Fabryki Mebli in Oborniki, Swarzędzkie Fabryki Mebli, Jarocińskie Fabryki Mebli and “Polskie Meble” from Poznań, Fabryki Mebli “FORTE” from Ostrów Mazowiecka. The Committee, developed a concept of the relevant organization operations, selecting a status of a Chamber of Commerce under the name of the Polish Chamber of Commerce of Furniture Manufacturers. Over the years, OIGPM has been intensively involved in developing a reliable system that facilitates trade for furniture companies, and offers new opportunities for partnerships abroad. Pursuant to the Articles of Association, the main objectives of the Chamber are to: » Represent and protect the interests of the associated business entities before the state and selfgovernment administration of all levels, » Protect the business interests of its associated entities, » Develop the principles of best practices and fair competition in business relations.
