COMPOSITE DRAWING
Fall 2023 | ARC 407
Focusing on the Urban fabric of downtown Syracuse, the site of the building is located at the heart of “campus” by the Niagara Mohawk building. This entails designing open space adjacent to the Niagara Mohawk, giving the national grid company building more hierarchy at the center of the created campus. To create this open space, my building design follows alongside the site perimeter, enclosing the block Niagara Mohawk is built on, with courtyards for residents and company workers. The concept that aided my design was in regards to different degrees of surveillance from national grid, fully enveloping into the idea of a dystopian company town. The walls between units are 7 foot concrete “walls” which act as zones for interior activity. Such as plumbing and circulation that belongs solely in this zone, as well as a lower ceiling height and fixed furniture and foldable furniture within these walls. CIRCULATION DIAGRAM

Through this project in curating the groundscraper, I wanted to bring emphasis to the smooth vs stepped conditions derived from ABAB pattern, the constructed landscape creates a conversation between rigid stepping and smooth rolling hills. Programs are plotted within the stepped areas of the site, bringing a sense of hierarchy between my landscapes 2 conditions. Where the smooth hills act as circulation amongst the site and the step acts as the programs. The geometry derives from circles and tangent curves, similar to how machinery in till farming regulate the land. The relationship with the site embeds the more private programs such as the research farm and culinary institute to allow for more ground interaction. Throughout the site, retention ponds and gardens are located towards the bottoms of the rolling hills that match the same elevation of Imperial county making it easier to test the areas soil and allow for water flow.

CENTER OF CONTINUITY Fall 2022 | ARC 207
The grocery store co-op derives from 2 precedents combined into a collage inspiring the idea of a newly created grid system emphasizing the center circle and extruded shapes within it. To create the extruded shapes, lines connected major landmarks in the lower ninth ward area including the heart of new orleans, gulf of mexico, and holy cross neighborhood adjacent to the lower ninth ward. A secondary program to the grocery store contains a cafe and performance space for local artists in the New Orleans area to perform at. In relation to tectonics, two different column thicknesses were incorporated in the design. The outdoor space has a larger thickness to allow for structural support, whereas, the interior spaces are thinner to allow for better circulation. My plans exhibit this as well, but also highlight staggering spaces as the form is a circle itself divided into several spaces in or outside of the disc.

The outward appearance of form, as well as free circulation are vital elements to the building emphasizing a continuous line to separate spatial forms and divide these spaces. The galleries are double height spaces with no windows to allow for a wider view of the gallery pieces, and to promote a different experience than other spaces with different programs. Studio spaces located on the top floors are completely enclosed in glass to allow natural light to enter the workspace. The entrance and archive remain on the bottom floors, completely enclosed by walls for a contained and more private space. Overall, the concept of form and figure through circulation play an important role to the art incubator building, where each program through spatial form can be outwardly expressed according to once more, the concept of the continuous line.

The premise of Warping Tectonic was to explore tectonics in creating a public performance hall and market space. The buildings programmatic spaces are divided among a grid staggered. The market place is enclosed by a tectonic grid, allowing light to enter the public space. The performance hall is completely enclosed, warping the wall into the ceiling allowing sound to project out throughout the space.
