FITNESS FACILITY AND SERVICES

Access cards to the fitness facility are available for purchase at a cost of $10 from the Office of the Registrar (Student Services Building).

Okanagan College is committed to promoting health and wellness as a lifestyle choice for all eligible students. Our facility offers a wide range of cardio machines and strength training options. Memberships can be purchased online for $10 or at the Office of the Registrar in the S Building. Cards are activated based on your enrollment and program dates and must be reactivated every semester at no charge unless you need a replacement card. Learn how to use the fitness facility equipment safely and effectively under the guidance of our staff. Book your orientation online at okanagan.bc.ca/kelownastudentlife and a fitness specialist will contact you.

COMMUNITY RECREATION PARTNER

In partnership with the City of Kelowna’s Parkinson Recreation Centre, Okanagan College is pleased to provide free swimming passes for students at this facility between September and April. Please visit the Athletics, Recreation and Student Life office (A104) with your valid student ID to find out how to access these passes. You can also email us at kelownarec@okanagan.bc.ca.

OUTDOOR ADVENTURE PROGRAM

Athletics, Recreation, and Student Life is excited to continue with the Outdoor Adventure Program. This program is intended to introduce students to fun and recreational activities that are found in the Okanagan area. We will be giving away prizes on each excursion with a grand prize giveaway at the end of the semester.

Look for the Outdoor Adventure Program logo (the green shoes) attached to the events that qualify.

ORIENTATION WEEK

The orientation team at Okanagan College welcomes you to the Kelowna campus for an exciting line up of activities and events this fall. These events are designed to help you get acquainted with the Kelowna campus and surrounding community, as well as provide an orientation to your program. From the official Welcome Day event to Pub Night and all activities in between, you are sure to find something fun and exciting to jump start YOUR OC journey.

KAYAKING OKANAGAN LAKE

In collaboration with Hoodoo Adventures, join us for a two-hour paddle of Okanagan Lake along the shores of Kelowna where the scenery is breathtaking. Kayaks, safety equipment, and lesson are included. Please bring a bag lunch, water bottle, swimsuit, towel, and dry clothes. Transportation is not provided.

MYRA CANYON ROPE CLIMBING ADVENTURE

On the edge of the beautiful and historic Myra-Bellevue Provincial Park sits an aerial tree top ropes course. Myra Canyon Adventure Park offers climbing in ropes and challenge course lines, slack-lining, disk golf and mind ventures at one of the most scenic spots in the valley. Guests of all ages are challenged to explore, climb, swing, dangle, balance, hike and solve physical challenges on a variety of climbing elements between trees. Please bring a bag lunch and water bottle. Long pants, sturdy shoes, and gloves are recommended. Register online: okanagan.bc.ca/kelownastudentlife

KNOX MOUNTAIN HIKE & PICNIC

Join us on Saturday, October 5 for a guided hike to Paul’s Tomb at beautiful Knox Mountain Park and be rewarded with some of the city’s best views. Note: The hike is moderately challenging and sturdy shoes are recommended. A picnic lunch will be provided. Please bring a backpack and water bottle.

STRESS BUSTER EVENT

Join us for a bowl of comfort, crafts, snacks, and study tips. We will be hosting the therapy dogs from Kelowna Caring Canines Society. All of these will help you cope with midterm and project stress. Come unwind with us!

Diwali is the festival of lights celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs, and Jains worldwide. Join us as we take part in some of the celebrations right here on campus.

PING PONG TOURNAMENT

From its origins as a parlour game in Britain, ping pong has always been a popular recreational activity globally. Compete for the right to call yourself the Okanagan College Ping Pong Champ. Prizes will be awarded.

We know the facts! Studies show that interactions with therapy animals can greatly decrease stress in humans. We could all use a little less stress so we’re bringing in the therapy dogs from Kelowna Caring Canines to visit with you. Stop by and pet one of our friendly dogs and grab a snack at the same time.
