FROM the
TOP Patrick Grace, CEO
As we continue rolling with what 2020 throws at us, I can't help but wish it were a normal year. It's August, which means we should be preparing for our Annual Meeting and Member Appreciation Night, where we would greet thousands of you to thank you for being loyal members. We should be welcoming entertainers and stressing about ensuring each detail represents the appreciation we have for you. We should be preparing the dozens of prizes our sponsors help us give away, assigning employees their duties for the evening and running last minute network connection and security tests to operate all our technology. We should be stocking the Kids' Zone with games, face paint and prizes. Most importantly, we should be double- and triple-checking that our caterer has enough food prepared to feed you and your families. Instead, here we are, still in the midst of a pandemic. Each of our communities differ in their mandates and policies but one thing remains the same: social (and physical) distancing must continue if we are to beat COVID-19. We haven't had a whole lot of luck with our last few Annual Meetings. First the Lloyd Noble Center was under construction and our longtime caterer retired. It took a couple of tries, but we eventually found one. We were excited to make this Annual Meeting one of the best yet, and we can't wait to provide that to you next year. On a different note, we had some wild summer storms over the last few weeks and we are proud of the work our line crews and logistics team did to ensure power wasn't affected longer than it had to be. We have taken a measured and strategic approach over the last few years to decrease our outage times system-wide. As a result, OEC members are enjoying shortened outage times and improved reliability. It's all part of our mission to improve your quality of life with the safe delivery of highly reliable, reasonably priced electric service, innovative energy programs and exceptional member service.

WFEC GENERATION REPORT
Board of trustees approves rate to benefit EV owners, overnight users
O
EC's board of trustees recently added a new rate to OEC's growing catalog of rate options, this time for members who own an electric vehicle (EV). "We are proud to offer a new residential rate that focuses on the time of day electricity is consumed and is most beneficial to those with electric vehicles," said CEO Patrick Grace. "However, it's also a great rate for those willing to divert energy consumption to evening and overnight hours." While the price per kilowatt-hour (kWh) drops significantly between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., the EV rate does not only benefit those who own EVs. Residential members who experience high consumption overnight could reap the benefits as well. "Our goal is to create rate options that benefit a variety of user types," said Grace. "We now have rates for those focused on efficiency during the day and those who like a simplified, easy to understand rate. Creating a rate for higher overnight users was a natural next step." [3016421733] Members able to shift high energy use (i.e. clothes dryer, HVAC, electric car charging, etc.) to the hours of 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. will experience the most savings. Not sure which rate is best for you? Visit www.okcoop.org/rates and enter your OEC account number into our rate calculator to compare costs based on your consumption history. If you have not resided at your location for one year, you might need to contact our Member Services team to assist you. They can be reached by calling 405-321-2024 or via the chat function in your SmartHub mobile app Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Could OEC's new EV rate be right for you?
Western Farmers Electric Cooperative (WFEC), OEC's wholesale generation and transmission power provider, has an impressive renewable portfolio that includes wind, hydro and solar. OEC's Solar Garden, located at Interstate 35 and Highway 77 in Norman, began producing power in February 2017, and Tuttle's 40-acre Solar Farm began operation in March 2017. As more solar facilities come online, expect to see it added to WFEC's generation report, increasing the already robust mix of renewable energy sources.

CO-OP NEWS
Electricity brings everyday value By Anne Prince
E
ven though we work in the energy industry, we tend to not think much about the electricity we use in our homes. We expect the lights to turn on when we flip the switch and the coffeemaker to work each morning. Because electricity is so abundant, we don’t think much about it. Since many of us have been spending more time at home over the past few months, we have likely been using more energy. And yet, we still expect an endless supply of power with uninterrupted service 24/7. The only time we really think about electricity is when the power goes out or perhaps when the monthly bill arrives. [7602100115] Given how electricity powers our modern lifestyle every day, it’s a great value, especially when compared to other common services and expenses. For example, think back to the cost of a gallon of gasoline 20 years ago. Consider the cost of groceries or a cup of your favorite specialty coffee from a few years back. In comparison, the cost of electricity has remained largely flat, unlike most other consumer goods. We use cell phones to stay connected, and we subscribe to cable channels so we can enjoy more viewing options. Many of us consider these necessities for modern day life. We can see what we’re getting for our money, and we pay the price for those services. In contrast, when we use electricity, we don’t necessarily “see” all that we’re getting for our money. But considering what electricity does for us, it’s a tremendous value for our quality of life as well as our budgets. For comparison, consider that the average rent increase was nearly 4% (from 2014-2019) according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumer Price Index (CPI). The cost of medical care was increased 3% during this time, and education was not too far behind at 2.6%. So, where did electricity rank? According to the CPI, electricity increased by less than half a percentage point, 0.4%. The bottom line: electricity brings everyday value, especially reliable electricity. OEC members experienced an average outage time of only 53.4 minutes in 2019, down from 129 minutes in 2016. It doesn't get much more reliable than that.
Considering that electricity is something we all use around the clock, we're very proud of our track record. At the same time, we are striving to increase our service reliability, reduce those brief interruptions and reduce costs. We are continually working to improve our operations to ensure a smarter grid and exploring more renewable energy options where possible. OEC provides the reliable service you expect and deserve as valued members of the co-op. And as your trusted energy advisor, we want to help you save you energy and money. We recognize that the past few months have been challenging for many of our members and we’re here to help. If you have questions about your account or are looking for ways to save energy at home, please give us a call. We are your electric co-op and our sole purpose is to serve you and the needs of our community. That’s everyday value.
ELECTRICITY REMAINS A GOOD VALUE

Today, more than 14 years later, thousands of members enjoy the benefits of OEC PrePay. "At the time, very few co-ops in the nation were looking at ways for members to prepay for their electricity," said Jonna Buck, vice president of administration. "Several, if not all, cell phone providers were offering prepaid services, and we thought 'why can't we?' It has turned out to be a great options for a lot of people."

Annual Meeting postponed until 2021 Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and recommended guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and local officials, OEC's board of trustees elected to postpone the Annual Meeting and Member Appreciation Night until 2021. "Across the nation, our co-op peers are facing similar decisions in light of this unprecedented pandemic," said Percy Moreu, OEC board of trustees president. "While it wasn't an easy one, we felt the safety of our employees, members, Lloyd Noble Center workers, caterers, entertainers and everyone involved should come first."
