Electric rates can be complex and difficult to fully grasp with a lot of moving parts. We must factor in the cost of building new infrastructure and replacing old, maintaining the poles, wires, transformers and substations we currently have in place, paying highly-trained, knowledgeable employees, and ensuring our technology is safe from cyber attacks. And not to mention we must consider the cost of the electricity itself — the ever-changing fuel costs, transportation from the generation plant to your homes and so much more. From the engineering behind the electrical system’s design to the billing software and community safety programs, we must be sure to capture these costs in our rates.

Sounds easy, right?

Costs naturally increase every year, but our growth has been able to offset the need for a rate increase.

Our service area includes areas near the OKC metro that are experiencing booming growth. Families are migrating toward suburban and rural areas where their dollar goes further. Because of this, we are able to continually assess our rate structure without implementing an increase while ensuring our members have options that benefit you and your cooperative.

Those who like simplicity have enjoyed our standard residential rate, while those who are more energy-conscious are able to take advantage of our flexible time-of-use rate. Those who charge an electric vehicle overnight or are able to switch their energy use to overnight hours have a rate that fits their needs, too.

Summer is here, and soon your electric bill will reflect it. Now is the time to take a closer look at not just how much electricity you use, but how you use it, so you can be on the rate that keeps more money in your pocket.

STANDARD RESIDENTIAL RATE The Standard Residential Rate is perfect for members who like simplicity and convenience and who use an average of 1,600 or more kWhs per month. All kWhs cost 9¢ per kWh year-round, and you get a break in the winter. Energy use greater than 1,000 kWhs is billed at 6¢ per kWh on January, February, March, April, May, November and December bills. The daily service availability charge of $1.50 pays for some of OEC’s fixed costs, including distribution and generation capacity, line maintenance and system improvements, and costs for billing, member services and administration.

TIME OF USE RATE This rate is perfect for energy savers who are willing to modify behavior to maximize savings. It's a more complex rate design, but energy-conscious members are able to take full advantage to see savings. Energy used between 3 and 7 p.m. on weekdays from June 1 through Aug. 31 (excluding July 4) costs 24¢ per kWh. All other kWhs are billed at 11¢ per kWh on June bills and 9.8688¢ on July, August and September bills. Kilowatthour costs range from 6¢ to 9.2752¢ per kWh on winter bills.

[1819421103] ELECTRIC VEHICLE RATE This rate is perfect for electric vehicle (EV) owners and those willing to divert energy consumption to evening and overnight hours. This simple year-round rate offers 9¢ per kWh between 5 a.m. and 9 p.m., and 5¢ per kWh between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Anyone able to shift energy use during those overnight hours should see savings.

This rate includes a $1.50 service availability charge per day.

to our longtime colleague and friend, Jonna Buck

Jonna Buck, VP of Administration who enjoyed a 30-year career at OEC, passed away May 17 following a hard-fought battle with cancer. She leaves behind her husband, Mike, and daughter, Abby.

Since 1991, Jonna has been instrumental in bringing innovative technology to OEC, such as the revolutionary Prepaid program in 2006. She was never afraid to be the first to try something and was proud to represent OEC at national conferences as an expert in her field. She advocated strongly for the Operation Round Up® program, which has since given back over $5 million to those in need.

Hired as a summer part-time clerk typist in 1988, then a customer service representative in 1991, Jonna quickly became one of the most knowledgeable employees who knew the billing system inside and out. As such, she climbed the ladder to eventually become the VP of Administration, a role which she had held since 2013.

Our thoughts are with Mike, Abby and the rest of her family and friends. Jonna will be greatly missed.

Jonna was a joy to work with and I always appreciated her approach to decision making in being such a good steward financially concerning our membership. SAVINGS Top 10 ways to save from our energy efficiency expert!

It's that time of year again — time for the dreaded summer power bills to start rolling in. While we have a variety of tools and resources to help you curb your electricity use and save some money this summer, you can also perform some simple checks around your home to ensure it's ready for the Oklahoma heat.

Here are our Energy Efficiency Solutions Specialist Daniel Lofland's top 10 ways to save this summer: 1. Take advantage of our FREE Home Energy Consultation Program. This full-home energy audit is free to qualifying members — sign up at www. okcoop.org/HECP 2. Install a programmable thermostat, and don't forget to apply for OEC's $50 rebate. Program your thermostat to increase your home's temperature to at least 78 degrees between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., especially if you are on our Time of Use rate.

3. Switch your lighting to LED lighting where possible.

4. Lower your water heater's setting to 120 degrees.

5. Avoid using your clothes dryer between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.

6. Turn off the heated dry function on your dishwasher. Instead, simply open its door when the cleaning cycle is complete and let your dishes air dry.

7. Use power strips where possible and turn off those devices when not in use. This is a small inconvenience that could add up to big savings.

8. Keep HVAC filters replaced and units maintained.

9. Buy ENERGY STAR®-rated appliances when they need to be replaced.

10. Ensure your home is properly sealed. Check the weatherstripping on doors where you can see light coming through the edges, and re-caulk around windows to help seal the home.

To commemorate our 85 years of service, we are asking members to submit photos that could be featured in a 2022 wall calendar to be sent later this year.

We're looking for photos of all seasons to include in our 12-month 2022 calendar. These can be landscape photos, wildlife or livestock photos, or anything that represents our rich history of bringing electricity (and now broadband) to the farms and rural areas of central Oklahoma.

Notice to file candidacy for OEC Board of Trustees The members of Oklahoma Electric Cooperative Districts 1, 6 and 9 are hereby notified that pursuant to Article 3, Section 3.07 of the bylaws of Oklahoma Electric Cooperative, as amended, any member desiring to run for the office of Trustee from the district of his/her residence must file a written Notice of Candidacy on a form provided by the cooperative between June 14, 15 and 16, 2021, inside the cooperative headquarters at the office of the manager, 2520 Hemphill Drive, Norman, Okla., between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on one of those days. Only members filing Notice of Candidacy and Intention to Stand for Election during the time period stated above shall be eligible for election. Persons desiring to file for office of Trustee must obtain forms at the

cooperative headquarters, 2520 Hemphill Drive, Norman, Okla.

No other nomination methods can be accepted.

The bylaws provide written Notice of Candidacy must be filed inside the headquarters of the cooperative with the manager or his designee, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. during the three (3)-day filing period, which officially closes at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 16, 2021.

Grace among Journal Record's Most Admired CEOs The Journal Record has unveiled the list of Oklahoma’s Most Admired CEOs for 2021, and OEC's own Patrick Grace is among the honorees.

"I'm not at all surprised Patrick is among the Most Admired CEOs in Oklahoma," said CFO Preston O'Brien. "His leadership of OEC and OEC Fiber is unmatched, and we are proud to call him our own."

The 28 Most Admired CEO selections, as well as two financial stewardship award recipients, will be recognized at the 12th annual Oklahoma’s Most Admired CEOs & Financial Stewardship Awards event. The virtual celebration will be held on June 28.

CEOs and CFOs are honored in three categories – public company, private company and nonprofit. An overall winner will be chosen from each category and announced during the event.

“CEOs and CFOs are the driving force behind a business’s success or failure,” said Journal Record Interim Editor Joe Dowd. “They are the decision-makers whose actions can alter the fate of a company, as well as the community they serve.

The Journal Record wants to recognize these leaders and let our audience know what makes them tick.”

Since taking the reigns in 2016, Grace has carefully guided OEC into a new era of service with the creation of OEC Fiber.

He challenges OEC's leaders to become better leaders so the entire OEC team can provide the best, most reliable electric and broadband service.

"To say the board and I are proud of Patrick for being recognized as one of the Most Admired CEOs is an understatement," said OEC Board of Trustees President Rusty Grissom. Learn how much you can save in each area.

EFFICIENCY OEC Fiber connectivity offers a smarter way to lower your electric bill

The largest user of power in many homes is the HVAC system. Heating and cooling account for roughly 50% of the electric usage. That means one half of your electric bill comes from a single source. Finding a better way to control that source could make those high summer bills more manageable.

Programmable thermostats have long been promoted as a simple solution. Setting heating and cooling schedules are a great way to help reduce your usage, but these devices have been given an upgrade. Smart thermostats use the internet and Bluetooth technology to put climate control in the palm of your hand. They allow you to set heating and cooling schedules and make on-the-go adjustments straight from your phone.

You can even change the setting when you are away on vacation!

One unique feature of smart thermostats is their ability to interact with other tools. You can pair them with smart home devices like an Amazon Echo or Google Home for greater control of your environment. Most of these devices offer customizable voice activated features that let you change settings with a single

word or phrase. Without even leaving your bed, you can turn on the lights, start the coffee maker and ensure the house will be the perfect temperature by the time you throw back the covers.

Before dismissing this idea as being too expensive, keep in mind, you do not have to buy a top-of-the-line device to enjoy all the benefits it offers. Annual Meeting postponed until further notice OEC's board of trustees and senior leadership elected to postpone the 2021 Annual Meeting due to the ongoing local mandates and guidelines following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Originally scheduled for Aug. 13, the annual event draws 6,000-7,500 members and their family members for a night of barbecue, entertainment, prizes and more.

"We were really hoping to be able to host our Annual Meeting this year," said CEO Patrick Grace. "Unfortunately, an event of this magnitude requires decisions to be made months in advance, and we just weren't able to confirm a safe environment for 6,000-plus to meet."

Like last year, co-ops around the country are faced with this same decision. [5506402301] "It was a tough decision, but we want to be sure when we do meet again, that we can fully celebrate with our members," Grace continued. "We didn't feel like this was the year we could accomplish that, so we will hope for a full return of our Annual Meeting in 2022."

WFEC GENERATION REPORT Western Farmers Electric Cooperative (WFEC), OEC's wholesale generation and transmission power provider, has an impressive renewable portfolio that includes wind, hydro and solar. OEC's Solar Garden, located at Interstate 35 and Highway 77 in Norman, began producing power in February 2017, and Tuttle's 40-acre Solar Farm began operation in March 2017. As more solar facilities come online, expect to see it added to WFEC's generation report, increasing the already robust mix of renewable energy sources.

Directions Place the potatoes in a pot with enough water to cover. Bring to a boil, and cook for about 10 minutes, or until easily pierced with a fork. Drain, and transfer to a large bowl to cool.

In a medium bowl, mix the sour cream, mayonnaise, mustard, vinegar, eggs, pickle, celery, green onions, and hot sauce. Season with dill, garlic powder, onion salt, salt, and pepper. Pour over the potatoes, and gently toss to coat. Chill at least 3 hours in the refrigerator before serving.
