Hidden Account Numbers Worth $250 Each month, OEC will pay $50 to the two co-op members who locate their hidden account numbers inside the Co-op News that month. The hidden account numbers will be placed at random within the text of each issue and not on the mailing label. The amounts will simultaneously increase in $50 increments until one or both account numbers are located by their respective owners or until the maximum of $500 is reached.

1. One of the hidden account numbers must be your own.

2. You must advise OEC by phone, mail or in person at the co-op’s office by the 15th of the month.

This time of year, we are typically gearing up to visit schools all over our service area. Whether we’re giving away curriculum kits, teaching about the components of electricity or bringing our Live Line out, we enjoy bringing a little of our world to our communities. Thanks to the global pandemic, it’s something else that will have to look a little different this year.

We have devoted resources to educational outreach for years, and now we’re being forced to adapt and get creative.

Thanks to the dedicated efforts of our educational and outreach team we have formulated curriculums, science projects and other activities to help students of all ages and grades learn about electricity whether it’s in a classroom or by virtual means.

In addition to our educational curriculum, intended mostly for elementary-aged classes, we are still continuing our Energy Camp and Youth Tour contests, despite not knowing exactly what 2021 holds for them. It will be up to organizers of both programs to decide what those look like, but we want to be sure students in our area are prepared should they occur.

We are also dedicated to the education of electric safety, which is why we created our Live Line. While it is not necessarily hands-on due to safety reasons, it accurately reflects the dangers associated with electric lines and equipment with trained linemen operating it. The Live Line travels throughout our service area and is one activity we can perform while practicing social distancing in small groups.

As you can see, we remain dedicated to the communities we serve and will do whatever we can to ensure learning continues across our communities — whether that be inperson or virtual.

eginning Sept. 1, OEC members and OEC Fiber subscribers have a new app to help manage electric and fiber accounts: MyOEC. The new MyOEC mobile app replaces the SmartHub app — we recommend you delete the SmartHub app if you have it installed and only use the MyOEC app. The SmartHub app will continue to function, however it will will no longer perform software updates after Dec. 1, 2020.

MyOEC streamlines the information available to users. It includes hourly and daily consumption data for energy-conscious members, billing information, account management features (i.e. sign up for automatic bank draft, contact Member Services, etc.), a payment kiosk locator, outage map, notification settings and more.

You may also continue to make payments via e-check and credit/debit card via the MyOEC mobile app. Whether your service is with OEC and/or OEC Fiber, this one app puts all the information you need in one place. Download it now by searching "MyOEC" in your app store.

Moreu, Grover, Usry reappointed to OEC's board of trustees

O

EC's board of trustees voted to reappoint Percy Moreu, Ronnie Grover and Bob Usry to three-year terms in July following an uncontested election cycle. The three returning trustees — also OEC members — proudly serve their respective districts across OEC's service area. "[Moreu, Grover and Usry] have diligently represented the members in their districts throughout their service on the board," said Rusty Grissom, board of trustees vice president. "We know they will continue serving in the way our members expect and deserve."

Per OEC's by-laws, trustees serve three-year terms, with a different group eligible for election each year. OEC notified all members in the June Co-op News of the upcoming filing period for a spot on OEC's board representing Districts 2 (Shawnee, Pink and Etowah), 4 (Newcastle) and 8 (Midwest City, Choctaw, NE Norman). Upon the incumbent members being the only to file for election, OEC made the decision to cancel District Meetings in light of the global pandemic. [4911232201] "While we enjoy seeing our members face-to-face at the District Meetings each year, local officials and CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) guidelines prevented us from organizing an event," said CEO Patrick Grace. "We are hopeful things will resume as normal in 2021."

OEC's board trustees are tasked with becoming educated, knowledgeable experts in the electric industry. All nine trustees hold certifications and distinctions marking them as professionals in the field, making them qualified to make decisions in their constituents' best interests and ensure the co-op succeeds in its mission while remaining transparent to the members who own it.

WFEC GENERATION REPORT Western Farmers Electric Cooperative (WFEC), OEC's wholesale generation and transmission power provider, has an impressive renewable portfolio that includes wind, hydro and solar. OEC's Solar Garden, located at Interstate 35 and Highway 77 in Norman, began producing power in February 2017, and Tuttle's 40-acre Solar Farm began operation in March 2017. As more solar facilities come online, expect to see it added to WFEC's generation report, increasing the already robust mix of renewable energy sources.

Make your voice heard

here’s an old political saying, “if you’re not at the table, you’re on the menu.” This adage is the perfect answer to the question, “why vote?” It’s a blunt description of what happens when you don’t engage in the political process.

If you don’t vote, you’re not only missing the opportunity to support a candidate that shares your views and concerns, you’re allowing others to chart a course that impacts your future. That’s why we’re encouraging all OEC members to recognize National Voter Registration Day on September 22, 2020.

Whether you’re registering yourself or others to vote, or helping members of our community get organized, there are many ways to get involved.

YOUR VISION, YOUR VOTE While local elections may not be as exciting as the high-profile presidential election, they are just as critical. Local elections have a direct impact on your community and on your quality of life.

Like the national level, local elections represent who we are as a community, and more importantly, where we want to go. Whether it’s an election for a mayor, sheriff, state representative, school board, or an electric co-op board member, your vision for the community is tied to your vote.

Voting keeps elected officials accountable.

Elections are a direct and tangible source of feedback. For example, OEC board members provide

strategic guidance on the direction of the co-op and how it serves the community. Local board members embody the voice and identity of the community.

STAYING IN SYNC WITH THE COMMUNITY Ultimately, the role of the co-op board is governance. While day-to-day decisions are made by our employees, bigger decisions are made by the board, whose mission is look out for the vitality of the co-op and the members we serve. OEC board members provide their perspective on community priorities, thereby enabling us to make more informed decisions on long-term investments.

However, boards are not perfect, and we need you, the members of the co-op, to help keep the system in check. We depend on you and your neighbors to vote so that we can stay on course and ensure that we are in sync with the community that we serve.

A strong voter turnout shows investment in the community and ensures that a diverse number of views are represented. The whole community benefits when more people participate in the process, because greater numbers reflect a consensus on the direction of the future and the will of the people.

By voting in national, state and local elections, you are serving as a role model for your family, friends and colleagues. The act of voting demonstrates your support for the community and helps officials chart a course for the future.

Democracy is not a spectator sport.

axon Gless, the son of OEC Journeyman Meter Technician Kirk Gless and wife Sabrina, can be seen on the OU baseball field in a couple of years as a Sooner.

"I am honored and excited to announce that I have committed to the University of Oklahoma to further my baseball and academic career," Jaxon said in an Instagram post announcing his decision.

The decision is a long time coming for Jaxon, who has been an avid baseball player since he was 5 years old, playing all over the country.
