Find your inspiration (and help local kids with disabilities) at Fire on the Water In 2012, I popped in on the first Fire on the Water gathering, not really expecting much; I was there to say ‘hi’ to a few friends, give a little support to a first year event, grab a burger at Soda Steve’s, and head home. What I found about knocked me off my feet; a sea of bikes, the scent of gas, oil and leather, black and bandanas were still the standard uniform and there were no posers. Everyone had a scary story to tell, but their faces all held the look of someone who knew the serenity of forgiveness. I was confused for a while, then it hit me.

They are no longer apologizing over May 14. The ride leaves F&F at 10:30 and over, they embrace a life ‘in the light’ a.m., meanders its way through and support each other to move in a new Tahlequah to Camp Egan and back to F&F by early afternoon. Proceeds raised direction. And some of their stories will go to help kids with disabilities afford to put a chill down your spine. With their attend summer camp and just be kids for a little while, so please, give what you can to help local kids have some normal for a few weeks this summer. SPRING BIKE SHOW On April 16th, Myers-Duren Harley-Davidson held their Spring Bike Show. They awarded $1,400 in prizes and trophies without charging an entry fee to participate. There was cheap beer and good BBQ for us to enjoy while ogling the bikes. Live music was provided by the RPM Band. Didn’t seem to be as many bikes in the show as in the past, but it was still a good turnout. We hope to see ya at the next one!

-ful about

Something to be

It’s such a cool concept and perfect for people who want to help but haven’t quite figured out where to begin. ‘Joy in the Cause’ is a non-profit that “helps those facing life-altering illness and special needs.” If you know someone who suddenly found themselves sick or injured for a long period of time, it can be a pretty scary and financially debilitating experience. Joy in the Cause’s goal is to give a small kindness to people who are suffering: a stuffed version of their mascot Mavis Pearl (who is the cutest bulldog with a wardrobe that competes with the Kardashians), a paid bill, a grocery gift card, a visit (with lunch) while they are stuck in the hospital or many other small miracles that can go a long way for someone who is unwell and feeling down. They also help family members keep it together. Joy In the Cause needs your help. This little posse of positivity has an event planned; their “Joy Ride Poker Run” on June 4 is a hot ticket y’all. Payouts for top three hands, door prizes, a scenic ride and other giveaways ensure the odds are in your favor, but the ride starts at MyersDuren (did you hear that? I swear I heard angels singing just now) and ends at the Hard Rock, giving it that extra special

something because nothing bad can happen to you if you smell new Harleys first thing in the morning and get a big burger after a good ride, it’s karma. Bikes and cages are all welcome, as are families and pets (as long as they are kind ones). You can save some bucks by paying for your hands before the day of the run; all hands get $5/each deducted by buying early, so everybody wins again. Find out more about the Run, Joy In

the Cause and Mavis Pearl (or Lisa, her buddy) at www.joyinthecause.org or check in with their Facebook page (joyinthecause). Please help them help others with the Poker Run; and dressing your dog as a ballerina is okay too. As long as he likes it.

RIDE TO REMEMBER

This year’s 9th annual Ride to Remember had 1,961 registered participants who donated to the OKC Bombing Memorial. The ride attempted to break the Ft Collins, CO world record for the world’s largest charity poker run. The Ride to Remember had 1,484 ride sheets turned in, which was ten documented riders short of the world’s record. Had weather permitted I believe the Ride to Remember would have set a new record that would have lasted for years to come. Let’s break that record next year! OKLAHOMA BIKER - THE RIDERS RAGAZINE

What are we REALLY

seeking? Spring is here. The weather is getting warmer and cottonwood trees are in full force.

I sat on the porch this morning staring at a potted plant that Shelly had been tending to these past few days. It is growing and looking healthy. I smiled at the simplicity of that particular “life.” After admiring it for a few moments I thought about what it took to make that happen; It took earth, water and sunlight. That is so simple. The three essential things for growth are all around us. God created it that way on purpose. He gave us everything we If you find yourself wanting something needed when He created the world. more, but do not know what it is or if you seem to be searching for If we believe that this is true, then why something to sustain you, but do not do we always go searching for more? know where to look, try looking to the We feel like we need more money, cross and you will find it. better cars, a bigger house, the finest vacations and it all must outdo our Rev. Riverwalk Rally for the Veterans

Who’s Red, White and Blue, wears a lot of Black, smokes a stogy and wants to help local vets see tomorrow?

Give up? They might be a member of the American Veterans MC. Or they might be you because on June 25 the AVMC is hosting the 3rd Annual 2016 Riverwalk Rally from 6 p.m. ‘til midnight and everyone is welcome: bikers, MC’s, non-bikers, veterans, civilians, kids, bring them all for an evening of good food, good stogies, giveaways, raffles, a silent auction and a few fingers of bourbon to sweeten the deal. There’s going to be music by Speakeasy band, a Happy Hour 6-7 p.m. (with $1.50 domestic beer and free chips/salsa), and all kinds of exciting fare from a local food truck. And you get bragging rights that you took the spouse out for a date night. The best part is that proceeds from the event go toward helping our veterans suffering from PTSD.

local veterans who have kept our freedoms free. He is recruiting fun loving folks, no matter who you are, or who you are affiliated with, to help our Okie vets on June 25. Much of the proceeds raised will go a long way to the Tulsa Vet Center reaching more vets in need. Questions about the Rally? Dragon can be reached directly at (918) 809-0553. To all our Vets suffering from PTSD: you are NOT alone, there is help and hope. Please, please, PLEASE call the Tulsa Vet Center at (918) 628-2760, Ernest Childers VA Outpatient Clinic at (918) 628-2500 or VA Behavioral Medicine at (918) 610-2000. Late at night, they are still available. VA Crisis Line is 1-800-273-TALK (9255) or Combat Crisis Line 1-877-WAR-VETS (927-8387). Just make that first call and we’ll take it from there. You deserve no less.

Here’s the clincher: Did you know that 22 VETERANS COMMIT SUICIDE EACH DAY?!? That is just shocking (is there a stronger word for ‘outraged’?), yet in our “Jerry Springer” media frenzied world, this kind of information is left out of headline news. The American Veterans MC is passionate to change that. A local veteran/Media Director/American Veteran MC member/all-around fun guy (not a mushroom!)/dude with lots of letters after his name, Dragon (AKA Dr. Joe), is doing his part to help vets get the care they need and bring our brethren back from the war once and for all. Dragon desperately needs you to help

Secondly, the ambiance inside says it all. Low key communal seating and friendly service. Franky (our server) is a sweet lady and loves people (even us Bikers - I assume she doesn’t know too many). They took our picture and were pleased that we enjoyed our visit.

Smoke House Bob’s

We were on our way to eat lunch after visiting the Moving Wall in Muskogee. Taking the back roads through town and BAM! out of nowhere is “SmokeHouse Bob’s” BBQ joint; two hungry carnivores looked at each other, smiled and agreed to turn around and try it out. First impression, looks like it’s been here awhile. I have to admit this jewel is not the cleanest joint I’ve been in, but you need to pay attention to the demographic you are in when you stop at a place like this.

www.tulsabodyjewelry.com

TULSA BODY JEWELRY

I have learned that when you are ordering from a limited menu there is more care and love put into each serving and the sizes are adequate too. My buddy “Slyder” ordered the Chicken and Dumplings lunch special. It was huge served in an 8x8 inch Styrofoam takeout container. Be warned: you’ll want to eat this dish with care, as the meat is on the bone. Hot water corn bread came with it (we had never heard of hot water cornbread; they are kinda like a fluffy, browned pancake, so now you know too). I had the Three Meat Dinner (hot links, pork, and ribs) with coleslaw and baked beans as my choice of sides and their cornbread of course. The side menu is a little lean on choices although the serving sizes are not. Self-serve sweet tea was a nice touch for me because I really don’t like my cup to get empty while dining. All in all, a great experience; on our way to try a downtown café we found a nice jewel on a back road that I have never been on previously. I’m sure the locals love having this gem right where it is. Try SmokeHouse Bob’s for yourselves and let them know you heard about it here in Oklahoma Biker, from “Two Tone Biker.” Happy trails and… Smile... somebody loves you!

getting stuck behind “Blue Hairs” driving 30 under the speed limit on the way to get their $5 free play. Do all people who live in Kansas live on farms? Because most of you drive like you’re taking a casual stroll into town for church and to pick up a few things from the “Five and Dime”.

Is it just me or……… Has anyone else noticed that most people who drive cars with Handicap tags drive like shit? I mean really, if you have a disability, that isn’t a problem at all, lots of people do and they overcome and adapt. If you have a disability that keeps you from driving normally or impairs your ability to drive, maybe you should let someone else drive for you (I’m just thinking on paper here). I’m sick and tired of getting stuck behind cars with those tags.

Why do people think they just need go sit out in the fast lane and hold up traffic? If you’re not going to pass, get the hell out of the way! I don’t give a shit if you’re already doing “Two mph over the speed limit”, either speed up and get out of the way or slow down and drop back in line. Yes, you have every right to be a dick and hold up everyone else, but why would you do that? Didn’t your Mommy hug you enough when you were little? Leave the hammer lane open for those of us who are strolling!

Anybody beside me think these elections are a joke? Both the Democrats and Republicans suck. They’re acting like a bunch of grade school children. They twist and manipulate the rules to fit whatever their agenda is. I think all four of these Asshats are terrible choices (or five if you count the joke from Ohio) and none are qualified to be the President. Let’s see…. A crook, a Commie, a Canadian, a Narcissistic Blowhard and that whack job from Ohio. Not really Why do cop cars have dark (limo style) much to choose from. The conventions tinted windows? Has texting and driving gotten a little out of hand? I drive a truck for a living and get to see more than my share of the results of this. Last week I saw a selfish young woman take the life of a husband and father of 2 kids because she was texting. Long story short, she was texting when she went past me, changed lanes, hooked her tire on the side of the road, lost control and slid head on into the path of a guy on a bike. Killed him, dead! (and her too) I sure hope that text message was important. It cost two people their lives. I hope someday they can make it where you can’t text in a car. It would save a lot of our friends lives. Has anyone reading this ever texted while driving? Why? Why don’t you quit? Won’t happen to you? Horse Shit! It happens every day to people who say it will never happen to them. Think about it….

For

Hessian Paul “Rusty Chain” Weinshenk In the last ten months we have lost two legends in the Oklahoma biker community. On June 10th of last year we lost LaNelle Meyer. On March 27th we lost Hessian Paul “Rusty Chain” Weinschenk. There wasn’t much BS with Hessian Paul. At least with me, he always told me exactly how he felt. Once, when I did a spread on the Isle Bastards MC he came directly to me and said, “You aren’t planning to bring that patch to Oklahoma are you? We won’t allow it.” Another time when we were on the deck at Blues City he said to me, “Yes. You are my friend.” I knew he meant it. Hessian Paul was a Navy Seal and served two tours in Vietnam. He was a fireman and helped start the volunteer fire department at Oak Grove. He, like LaNelle, was a

member of the original Tulsa ABATE, and spent more than 46 years fighting for Motorcyclists’ rights. Hessian Paul was treasurer for the Oklahoma Confederation Clubs for more than 14 years. He was also a long time member of the Hessians M/C Nation. I say all of this, simply to say this: “Hessian Paul was an Old School Biker. He demanded respect…and he deserved to be respected. He could be cantankerous and he could be considerate. He was My Friend. My love and respect goes out to Annie, Anna, Spike and the Hessian Nation, and to all who loved Hessian Paul.

Changin’ Lanes: Hello, my name is Gina, though some of you may know me as Tiny Tank. I’m 52 and the only thing that has remained the same is that my life is constantly changing lanes. When it comes to survival, I’ve been at it since the very beginning. In 1963, I was born with hip dysplasia and was given Morphine for pain and they told my mom that I would never walk. So, from a young age, I started looking for something to dull the pain in any way I could. Whenever I was loaded, I thought that I could be myself. This manifested itself when I pulled out the drawers in the bathroom to get into the medicine cabinet and drink cough syrup, and even at family gatherings, I learned to sneak drinks from my daddy’s beer. I could open up, talk, and be accepted when I was flying high, but unlike others, I didn’t party. I got loaded to black out! After many years of abusing my body, I realized it was time to make a change.

the lady. It was through this ordeal that I began to find my inner strength. At this point in my life, I’ve changed lanes once more from victim to survivor. Today I make a daily choice to live as a survivor. Nowadays, I enjoy the sounds of the birds chirping outside my window, whereas before I would lay in my bed, screaming “Shut up!” and holding my aching head after a night of drinking and drugging. I look forward to the sunrise, rather than dreading it, and thank my higher power for another day above ground.

I have learned that there are no ‘bad’ days, just good days and learning days. Be good to yourself. Get your knees in the breeze and watch out for those cages. I’ve learned to forgive others, but more importantly, I’ve learned to forgive and accept myself, with all of my scars included. Nobody knows, and I certainly don’t know, what tomorrow holds, so enjoy every moment and the diversity it When I rolled a car in June of ’02 which brings to your life. The next month, in July, someone Gina Turner passed through my life that helped me change lanes again. It has been very rough at times, but it has brought me to where I am today. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer in ’04, I thought my life was over. I suffered through surgeries, ports, chemo, baldness, and even losing my breasts. Hats became part of my daily attire. But the biker community didn’t let me fall or sit on a pity pot for long. For a time, they helped me change lanes once again. My friends helped me to realize that cancer is a word, not a sentence. I also learned that boobs don’t define who a woman is, but it is the inner beauty that makes

Kids

Caring for with cancer with toys, cooking and cruising Where do we start? I have to share the story on how this whole party got started before I can tell you anything about it. It’s about a little boy named Ryder Herring.

little boy with ‘roid rage,’ weight gain and muscle pain so bad that he couldn’t walk. After four months, the prognosis was the same, so Elly and the family made a decision to stop the insanity and let Ryder enjoy his remaining time without the debilitating drugs. On March 14, 2013, the angels came for Ryder.

Elly’s description of Ryder’s last days is so touching: “On the day before he passed, he finally admitted he was in pain and needed something to cope. That evening Ryder fell asleep. He was surrounded by his family and friends. The following morning I was awakened by the hospice nurse saying she couldn’t read his blood pressure. It was almost In May, 2011, Ryder, an active 4 year old, went from playing and fine to slurred time. I pleaded and begged for him not to go. The nurse whispered to me that I and stumbling in 48 hours, and within a needed to tell him it was okay to leave. week, it was confirmed Ryder had brain cancer. He had to undergo an operation I felt a calm come over me, I leaned in for a tumor on his brain stem, followed up and whispered to Ryder that it was okay to go with the angels. He took two more with sedated radiation five days a week for six weeks in OKC and Chicago, THEN breaths, and it was over.” See the story clinical treatments, plus 30 medications a in its entirety on www.okbiker.net. She wanted a toy wrapped around Ryder’s brain stem and run in honor of Ryder and the little heroes all potential treatment options were off like him. disease. It is the goal of Ryder’s Army to keep these Toy Closets stocked full of toys so the kids there know they have soldiers who care. Now, in its third year, this year’s celebration happens June 25-26. We’re going to suggest you plan to be there both days because the Ryder’s Army Toy Run, Cheryl’s Birthday Bash, the Old School Smokers BBQ Smoke-Off, games and fun for little and big kids, raffles, giveaways, and Fran Cosmo (the former lead singer for a little band named BOSTON - yes, the REAL Boston!) will be on stage all for YOU at Country Corner Fire Station in Sperry. And that’s just the beginning. You knew the couple with rhyming first names were gonna make it worth your time to come out and party with them. ANNNNNDDD, Cheryl’s Birthday Bash Ryder’s Army Toy Run is hosting the Confederation of Clubs 20th Anniversary party! Gifts? Yes Please

What Cheryl wants for her birthday is simple: she wants toys. Lots of toys. She wants toys for some of the bravest, toughest, sweetest people you’ll EVER meet in your life. These kids are on the front lines fighting for another day, another chance, another breath of life. When times get tough, they focus on the

Toy Closet and the small reward they get for suffering another round of surgery, chemo, radiation or the endless tests, needles and medications that never seem to stop. Yes a toy on many occasions makes it doable. Info on allowable toys for the Closet at the end of this article and on www.oklahomabiker. net. The monetary proceeds from this event will help families who are impacted by childhood cancer. The Smoke-Off

To make things more interesting, some of the best meat smokers from around the U.S. are competing for bragging rights, trophies and, yes, money. The best part is they want YOUR vote too. Its old school smokin’ with YOUR vote meaning something (imagine THAT!). Best part of all is that it only costs you a measly $10 to grab a plate (and cast a vote). The “Old School Smokers BBQ Smoke-Off” Competition takes place on June 25. They welcome all competitors until June 20. Find all the forms you’ll need, rules and details on their Facebook page (search ‘Old School Smokers BBQ Smoke Off’). There are four categories this year: chicken, ribs, pork butt and brisket. You can enter one category for $30 or sign up for all four for $100. There will be payouts for the best smokers, so bring your ‘A’ game.

In addition to the four categories; the Matt Stevenson Wing Challenge has been added in memory of Derrick Stevenson’s son. The Old School Smokers are calling out all those who think they can cook-up some wings. Derrick is ready to take on all wing masters. For all you need to know about being a meat smoking competitor, along with the forms to sign-up can be found on the Old School Smokers BBQ Smoke Off Facebook page.

Enjoy a beautiful summer day with good food, good music, good friends and good times and thank God that your kids can run around and be kids because Cheryl wants you to bring the whole family along to make a day of it. She’s got her armory of angels planning all sorts of activities to entertain your crew. I know she’ll try to delete this, but we all know Cheryl has to repay one kindness with 10 kindnesses in return. That’s how she is. The good part is that we get the reward of a party that we’ll talk about for years to come. AND, if you come down with that pesky ‘shopping allergy’, that’s okay, bring some cash, a check, rolls of quarters; Cheryl will shop for those toys on your behalf. It’s all about kids and survival

If you’ve ever burned yourself, you know how painful it can be. Now, turn the volume up on that pain as high as it will go and imagine it happened to large areas of your body. There are kids who have experienced that kind of unimaginable trauma, followed by long periods of treatments that are pretty much as painful as the burns and they are oftentimes disfigured for the rest of their lives. Then they suffer the emotional pain of gawkers. Their parents have usually suffered a similar fate and the financial pain of home damages or destruction as well. FIGHT FOR THOSE FOUGHT FOR

You can see me, but I’m not here. You see, in my mind I’m over there. I know you may not understand, but sometimes I go back to a foreign land. A place I served with brave men who I would stand and serve with once again. It’s different now though, I don’t want to be there. What these memories bring back recreate the fear. Fear we had to hold inside, to keep our heads, to stay alive. Growing up with movies - watching our heroes leading men into battle, on foot, in tanks, or even on horseback - glorified wars with action scenes and explosions, the good guys kicking ass and special effect illusions. I am a proud vet, but I tell you now, there is nothing glorifying about the devastation of war. It affects so many lives, not caring if rich or poor. If you’ve not seen the battle grounds, civilian or soldier, in the country or towns, then you’ll never know about the wounds that won’t heal; ones you can’t see and can’t feel. It’s a small percentage of our men and women that have served in these lands and military stations. Most have come home and many have died, and

52

US

at one time or another we have all cried. Cried for the men and women we lost, serving beside us paying the ultimate cost. Cried for their families, children, spouses and others, we honor them by remembering our sisters and brothers. Sometimes we cry for our own wounds and scars, the ones you can see and the ones in our minds and hearts. You see, though we may have come home from these foreign lands, the lands followed us home, the deserts, the jungles, the sands. The memories, dreams, thoughts and the nightmares; we ask who can help us, who really cares?

Kevin (Slyder) Erwin

Many come home and yet at home they feel lost. Too many take their own lives, still paying the cost. Recognize suicide warning signs  Thinking about hurting or killing yourself

Additional warning signs  Feelings of hopelessness, feeling as though there’s no way out  Anxiety, agitation, sleeplessness, mood swings  Feeling like there is no reason to live  Rage or anger  Engaging in risky activities without thinking  Increasing alcohol or drug abuse  Withdrawing from family and friends National Suicide Prevention Lines: 1-800-273 TALK (8255), 1-800-SUICIDE Oklahoma Heartline: 2-1-1 Heartlineoklahoma.org I take comfort in my belief in a God who is there for me to turn to. I am fortunate to have a loving wife there for me to turn to and be comforted by her love. She may not always understand things I think and feel and see, but she has never turned her back on me. My kids and grandkids all give me something to hold on to and help me to be happy in life, and the awesome friends I have made over the years make me happy also…but there are many, too many that either don’t have someone there or turn away from them; afraid they may hurt them, or they find themselves turning to situations that bring them to the point of stepping out of this life by their own hand. It may not always happen, but suicide can be prevented.

Please learn the warning signs and if you are, see or know someone that may be in this kind of trouble, please call the suicide prevention heartline and maybe save another life. Someone out there needs them and may be helped by learning to deal with their situations, their scars, and wounds.
