 thursday pre-party, featuring “red grass“ -- no cover! 

or Dennis Wheeler? Why do we spend our hard earned dollars with those who don’t have any idea why riding a motorcycle makes us a brotherhood and sisterhood? Let’s keep biker money in the biker community. That concept is practiced in certain ethic groups and they all benefit from it. Let’s give it a try! And when you visit one of our advertisers please let them know you saw their ad in the RAG. In closing I would like to say good-bye to our friend and brother Tony G. He fought a long hard battle with cancer, but in the end he was ready to go home. He changed me and he changed Oklahoma Biker (Tony G is the reason you no longer see women on the back cover of the RAG). His message to you is “Tell them Jesus loves them.” Amen Janitor

What happened to the summer? My dad used to tell me as you get older time to goes by faster. The rapid passing of this summer sure proves his statement correct. I don’t think I have put 3500 miles on my motorsickle this whole summer. Fall is rapidly approaching and Cheryl and I are looking forward to our annual ride in the Ozarks coming up at the end of September. How many of you are going to be riding to Bikes, Blues, and BBQ? You know what else has happened? Many Oklahoma motorcycle charity organizations have lost one of their most generous contributors. Anthony Gorospe and Zach Smith of Gorospe & Smith Law Firm, have paid for over 240,000 fliers that were donated to these charitable groups. Furthermore, without the aid of Gorospe & Smith the Downed Bikers Association would not have a chapter in Tulsa. They were instrumental in helping us bring DBA to this area. Thanks for all you have done Anthony and Zach! Why do we not support biker owned businesses, and those businesses that support the biker community? When we need a roof why don’t we call Dan Ryan? When we need a plumber why don’t we call Herb Wagoner? If our heater needs fixed why aren’t we calling John Porter 5

BIKER RALLIES OL’ SKOOL VS CURRENT OKC is what, 750 miles from Sturgis? Yet even all the way down here, I’m sharing the highway with these goofy lords of the road. I witnessed four of them today doing 60 in the fast lane on the interstate... As I blew past them, I saw the strange accoutrements of their tribe: Chinese chrome baubles covering their bikes, beanie helmets and do-rags, brand spanking new REI camping gear, full on SOA soft colors... I felt so plain and ordinary in their presence. I wanted to follow them, maybe sit down for lunch with them at a Fuddruckers or Cracker Barrel and ask them to teach me their ways. We could split the check five ways, diligently tip precisely 15% on a credit card (black), and rebelliously roar away on our freedom machines- American flags waving in the patriotic breeze, the scent of Axe body spray and expensive cigarettes clinging to us like last month’s Visa bill. Yes, the Sturgis Nation is on the move this summer, wandering nomadically from one VIP tent to the next. But what’s happened to the old-school bike rally? Where are the mud and the beer and the bug-splattered, road-weary motorcycles?

Planx

The answer is that these old fashioned runs are still in existence. They aren’t some secret handshake protected cloak-and-dagger deals, either- they don’t have to be, because the folks who wouldn’t be welcome wouldn’t really want to come anyway. You wanna come? Just ask around! There’s always a group of bikes heading to a nearby campground or national forest. You can find flyers for these events festooned like propaganda at your local bike shop or watering hole. It’s not a mystery.

The old-school bike rally is not a place for the RUB tribe. No one would turn them away, but the dirt and grime and utter reality of the experience would not sit well with them. That’s why they have their own thing: the huge, glamorous, corporate-endorsed rallies complete with $15 beers and photo ops with your favorite cast member of Orange County Choppers. They’re happy, we’re happy, everybody’s happy. My earliest experiences in the biker world came from rallies my father took me to. He was a tattooist, and while he was putting Harley shields and eagles and dragons on the arms of riders from all over the country, I was free to wander the grounds, ogling the girls in that innocent way only a 12 year old boy can, participating in Jap smashes and tug-of-wars, and trying my damnedest to sneak in a beer or two if someone turned their back. Those rallies were how I fell in love with the biker lifestyle as we understood it at that time. Bike events at that time had very little in the way of vendors beyond food and beer. Somehow, we managed to get by without a thousand booths selling every imaginable trinket and gadget to “enhance the riding experience”. The focus was on the lifestyle, the motorcycles, the chance to escape town, the bonding. In my own experience, it just isn’t a bike rally without a weenie bite, a hill climb, a couple bands onstage who may or may not be even drunker than the crowd, naked girls, security guys valiantly (although perhaps fruitlessly) attempting to defuse a few fistfights at any given time, broken glass, handshakes, backslaps and all the other fun stuff that’s missing from dayto-day life. Throw in a turkey leg and a cooler full of drinks and you have the makings for something really special. FRANK FENCEPOST

HARLEY-DAVIDSON ARE CHARGING UP THEIR MOTORS FOR PROJECT LIVEWIRE For many enthusiasts, the HarleyDavidson brand is more than just a type of motorcycle – it’s a way of life, an icon that draws hymns to mind in the form of loud, rumbling engines and slick leather jackets. Known throughout the world for V-twin engines and stunning designs, Harley are one of the world’s most famous motorcycle manufacturers, building machines of pure beauty since their establishment in 1903. A company renowned for its ‘bigger is better’ frame of mind, Harley-Davidsons introduction of a revolutionary electric motorcycle has shocked many fans, causing some concern that the LiveWire project won’t be able to make the brand proud. However, the times are most certainly changing, and Harley have recognized the need to start diversifying their customer base and attracting young, urban, and environmentally conscious riders.

Their marketing expert, Mark-Hans Richer commented that the business, just like any other, has to look forward and move with the times, leading to the

birth of Milwaukee’s first electric twowheeled vehicle. The Concept Harley-Davidson, as a company have been adamant and swift in their dismissal of comparisons between their innovative new LiveWire and other electric vehicles which have already taken to the asphalt, commenting that their project is more like the introduction of the first electric guitar than an electric car. In their announcement, Harley has defined the LiveWire as an expression of artistic individuality and style that ‘happens to be electric’. The start-up companies that did make the most progress, such as Brammo and Zero, have so far lacked the funds and experience to produce a truly spectacular electric motorcycle. However, at this point though, the LiveWire is not going to be made available for consumer purchase. Instead, Harley is interested in discovering what their consumers truly want first, by allowing them to ride the LiveWire and provide feedback. The recent years have seen Harley become increasingly dedicated to the concept of customer satisfaction

16

On top of this, the wheels of the bike come with hollow spokes, providing some of the lightest wheels that HarleyDavidson has ever produced. Because there’s no engine, there’s no need for an exhaust system on the bike either, which helps to save more weight, and also contributes to a smoother, sleeker, overall look for the motorcycle.

and involving their consumers in the planning process for products. With events such as Project Rushmore and Street 750 and 500, Harley has unlocked the potential

The Sound When it comes to motorcycle enthusiasts, the sound of a bike can incite passion and excitement, or leave you feeling deflated. The trouble with the LiveWire, is that its sound is very different to what a typical Harley rider would usually expect, which has led to some serious debate amongst die-hard riders. Traditional bikers will tell you that the Livewire sounds nothing like a ‘proper’ HarleyDavidson, and that is true.

that market feedback can offer. Because of this, those giving feedback on the LiveWire will give the company the details they need to decide how, when, and if it should go into production.

The rumble that traditionalists love is gone, and the LiveWire doesn’t quite perform in the same way as a regular gas bike might, but it’s still an enjoyable and rewarding ride if you’re willing to give it a chance.

The Look Experts have regarded the main issue in creating the LiveWire to be based around the shift in building a motorcycle that runs on a gas engine, to one that functions using a battery. In all honesty, regardless of what many people may think, a battery pack is heavy, meaning that engineers are forced to cut down the weight elsewhere. On the LiveWire, the aluminum frame that coats the battery box only weighs fourteen pounds, making it eight pounds lighter than any other frame. 17

It’s all about Wealth. Not Health! Individuals who are now vaping or using e-cigarettes have tried for years to get away from tobacco and its harmful effects, yet when they find something that actually works someone or some organization wants to penalize or ostracize us for taking a step that should in all rights be commended. Why I ask? Money! I say the health organizations have had 50 years to find a safer effective alternative and they failed. All this boils down to is demonizing the vapor industry in order to get them taxed so health care can get the revenues.

When is good news bad news? When people stop engaging in unhealthy behaviors that state government relies on for funding. In Oklahoma we now rank 39th nationally for its rate of adult smoking down from 47th just last year. There were 14 million fewer cigarette tax stamps sold last year, a 5.2 percent drop. In coming years as the smoking rate continues to drop and more surveys are published it will be clear that e-cigarettes will have been a major factor in bringing down the smoking rate. Ask yourself this, where do the state and the health organizations of most states get a majority of their funding? Answer, the tax stamps on the bottom of each pack of cigarettes in which Oklahoma for instance, the first 23 cents If these organizations and entities were of each pack of cigarettes goes to the really concerned about clean air and state’s sinking fund to repay bonds. our health on state properties then why The revenue generated by an 80 cent are we not addressing topics such as increase supports multiple health uses, the chemicals emitted by fragranced general government expenditures and consumer products like air fresheners? local governments. which are over half of the price of a pack of cigarettes. So if the majority of all tobacco smokers are switching to the much safer style of nicotine replacement such as the e-cigarette or PV’s which are not sin taxed then what happens to these organizations funding? It disappears and they cease to exist! Big Pharma is also at risk. They have

created and marketed while spending millions to get their so called nicotine replacement and cessation products to the public. If the majority of today’s smokers are switching to the e-cigarette or personal vaporizer instead of their products, which are proving to be less effective, they stand to lose billions in revenue. Let’s take Chantix for example. They’ve spent millions in marketing and research and it’s even FDA approved. Yet it has been linked to 500+ suicides. I don’t know of one e-cigarette or personal vaporizer that has been linked to any such case.

The e-cigarette market is projected to overtake the tobacco industry within this decade, truth be told, they need people to buy tobacco products for their own survival. What is happening through TSET and bans’ trying to compare vaping with smoking, is basic indoctrination. Health organizations, special interest groups, and big pharma are demonizing e-cigarettes through bribes using taxpayer dollars while Ask yourself screaming this, “where health issues do state and then they can make it easier federal health to get PV’s and organizations e-cigarettes taxed. get most Isn’t that just an of their attempt to save their own jobs and funding?” accomplish selfpreservation? This month Oklahoma Biker wishes to honor the American Veterans Motorcycle Club for their service to our country. We wish them much love, honor and respect. May God bless each of their members along with all of our United States Veterans. The purpose of the American Veterans Motorcycle Club is to unite veterans as a group of people who enjoy the freedom to ride and exercise the freedom of choice that we all served to protect. Our “Band of Brothers”, all of whom have honorably served or are still serving, in-country or abroad, come from all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. We wish to present a favorable image of the American Veteran as a motorcyclist by participating in charitable events and any other function that will enhance the image of the club. The patch is meant to tell all who see it something about the people wearing it, namely that we all believed in the U.S. strongly enough to have served in its Armed Forces in order to defend the freedom of choice that we all enjoy, that we believed in supporting the U.S. by buying American-made products, and that we will forever defend and protect the Constitution of the United States against anyone who seeks to destroy it. Our club participates in events and/or functions that benefit individual veterans in need or veterans organizations. We will do everything we can to help bring all

the POW/MIA’s home, and insist that the government give us a full accounting of all POW/MIA’s of all conflicts. Our club does not and will not interfere in any other club’s internal business or dealings and will not allow any other club to involve themselves in our private club business. We do not bring grief to others and will not allow others to bring grief to us. We strongly believe in and value the M/C philosophy of Honor, Respect and Protocol. We are a riding motorcycle club and seek dedicated lifetime members who will actively support this club and its agenda. When accepting new members, we value quality more than quantity. If you have what it takes and want to become part of our “Band of Brothers”, contact us to learn more about the American Veterans Motorcycle Club. For more information go to www. avmctulsa. com

Motorcycles. For some, it’s the engines. For some it’s no windows and all that air. For others, it is the incredible feeling of

freedom and the loosening of everyday restrictions. Maybe it’s all of these things...maybe none. There just isn’t anything cooler that you can drive. For Fred Delfino, the owner of Main Street Motorsports in downtown Broken Arrow, it is all this and the people that ride. The world of bikes. From the time he was too little to see over the gauges, Fred’s world has been motorcycles and all of the miscellaneous stuff that goes along with it. Like many people, Fred began working on and customizing his own bikes, then his friends’, and from there, his career took on a life of its own. Fred’s riding days were mostly over in an unfortunate riding accident that took place three years ago. While many viewed his inability to ride any longer as a liability, Fred took what most would have considered to be a deal breaker 28

and combined that with his many years of experience working in various dealerships and knew that he could do it better. His liability became a newfound asset, as he was free to focus on his expertise and years of knowledge. By blending his passion for motorcycles, charging fair rates and offering great service and quality to the very people that deserve it most, Fred can do what he really wants to do: keep the customers who ride on the road. Fred truly likes the people involved in motorcycles. He knows he isn’t going to make millions, and he is okay with that, because he is one of the lucky ones that is doing what he loves. However, everyone has a hobby,

and our good friend Fred isn’t any exception. Bikes again, but not the kind you might think. These have no engines, no roar, and are something most of us would probably buy for our kids first...if you haven’t guessed it yet, yes, I am talking about the good,

old-fashioned bicycle. Before you have a good chuckle at the thought, allow me to introduce you to the Fat Wheel Bike... it’s a bicycle only a dyed-in-the-wool biker could love. A bicycle with tires that look as if they were inspired by a monster truck; Fat Wheel Bikes weren’t invented by Fred, but I would venture a guess that he has taken the concept and put his own special twist on it. A Fat Wheel Bike is built by Fred on a traditional bicycle frame, but with a couple of very cool modifications: the frame is opened up to accept a tire that is as wide as a large man’s hand (about 4 inches), on a 26” rim. It’s a modification that was originally intended to allow bicycle enthusiasts to ride on snow, but the idea has caught on, because with a tire like that, you can cruise over things that would stop

$1200 to upwards of $7000. Talk about ride easy. With more than 30 years of experience under his belt, he holds certifications for Harley, BMW and Yamaha, but as you can see, will work on anything and everything. And while customization is his passion, his bread and butter is the repair side of his business, and he enjoys it. And folks, he works on all of it: From standard cycles to side-by-sides, dirt bikes, and of course, choppers and cafe’s. Fred and his crew can handle everything that you can drag, ride, push, or pull in. Between all of them, there is more than 75 years of experience available at Main Street Motorsports to fix whatever the issue is. Go on in and see Fred. He’s bound to have something you need...and when you do, be sure to ask to see the Three Wheels Of Death! ~Mac

a traditional bike, like a mountain bike, in its tracks. Big, fat tires make for a big easy ride, as I can personally attest to: Fred allowed me to test drive the one currently on his showroom floor, and as much as I like motors, I loved that bicycle. So much so, that I even had a conversation with Fred about customizing one just for me. Oh, and his price on those is in the $300 range, verses a similar custom Fat Tire bike you would find elsewhere (if you can), with custom bicycles ranging from

Be The Person You Want Them To Be Recently my wife and I took a group of youth (ages 12 – 18) on a retreat to Camp Egan and while there we went on a river float. 40+ kids sat as we told them, before the float trip, that there will most likely be people out there that do not hold our Christian values and to just remember that no matter what happens we will act in a manner pleasing to God. The first thing we saw was a couple of men dressed as Batman and Robin…their costumes consisted of a cape and a thong each. This was quite humorous to the kids and I must admit I chuckled a bit. Then when he [drunken Batman] walked up to about 20 feet from my kids and took “it” out and started to relieve himself - I put an

end to it…quickly. Jesus said in the book of Matthew “whoever causes one of these little ones to stumble is in for a rough end…” (Paraphrased of course) Your behavior is being watched constantly. I am not referring to God (however that is the case) but by children. Kids mimic what they see and this sort of behavior makes my job, as well as those like me that are trying to teach and raise healthy children, extremely difficult. Stand up and be a man or a woman that they should follow. Think about what you are doing and then think about a 10 year old doing it because that is what will happen. Much love to all. Something to think about in the wind… Pastor Matt

CUSTOM BIKE MY ASS Let’s talk about the confusing subject of “Custom” motorcycles this time. Its Bike Rally time again and with that brings Bike Shows and bike shows bring hurt feelings. It always seems there is someone in every show that thinks he was robbed of a 1st place trophy by judges who don’t know what they are talking about or looking at… so I’m going to try and explain why the “Custom” bike you think you own isn’t “Custom” at all. Custom- adjective: 1. Made to order 2. One of a kind. Let’s start out by telling you how this topic came about. I have seen

and heard this many times in my years of riding and some people will never understand it no matter how much you explain it to them. I was at a bike show at a rally and there was a very pissed of guy who just knew he had been robbed of first place in the “Custom” bike category. I asked if that was his bike he was standing next to and he said yes. When I told him I wouldn’t have voted for him either I thought he was going to lose it. So, me just being me, asked why he thought his bike was a “Custom” class contender (don’t think I’ll do that again) and he proceeded to tell me a wonderful story about a man, a credit card and a bike shop. You know the story. We’ve all heard it a million times. Well he bought a 2013 Fatboy, and went to the Harley shop and ordered $10,000 worth of chrome shit you don’t need and (here we go) had the shop bolt the crap onto his bike (because I’m pretty sure he doesn’t own any wrenches). Then, he took it to the local car audio place and had them put a goofy set of speakers on his bar that hook into his iPhone5s and some LED lights that scream “yes, I’m compensating for my lack of manhood.” I think I crushed him when I informed him what he had was an “Asshole bike.” Everyone has one and they all look the same. Needless to say, he couldn’t grasp that. I then told him that I could buy the same bike that he did, buy and bolt on the same stuff that he did and we would have twin, identical bikes, not customs. I then told him what he had was an accessorized bike and they have a category in the show for it too, it’s called stock! (or mild custom sometimes at really, really lame shows) Let me tell you, I know guys that 40

build bikes from the ground up. I can’t say that I like everyone I’ve seen, but to each, their own, that’s what makes the bike yours. These guys sweat and toil over torches and lifts getting each and every detail just right. Their heart and blood goes into the work, add custom paint (or lack thereof) and you have a true custom bike, a piece of hand built art, perfection, ONE OF A KIND! So if you have a hundred of a kind, had the Harley shop bolts some shit on, so do think you got a custom scooter? Think twice before you whine about not getting a trophy (It’s a good life lesson for your kids, not everyone is good at building bikes). It really doesn’t matter how much your co-workers like your “customized” bike. Not all bikes are built the same, and no matter how much crap

you bolt on, it’s still just customized (it’s kinda like buying some bling for the old lady) A little side note for you. If you spend $10,000 dollars on chrome shit (you’re a dumb ass in my opinion), please don’t expect it to raise your bikes resale value. Trust me, IT WON”T! If you decide to put the coolest paint job on it, think of this first. If you like glitter and unicorns you’re going to have a hard time finding someone else to buy your bike.

1789 NORTH PENINSULA DRIVE E • CLEVELAND, OK Down in The Boondocks things are starting to heat up just as the summer is set to cool down! In January, Shawn Wynne walked in and purchased what was formerly Rooster’s, lock, stock & barrel. After six months and a total renovation, including a new customfabricated bar, The Boondocks opened its doors on June 20th. Here in Oklahoma, Shawn Wynne is known for his success as the owner of Cranemaster, Inc. However, before he changed careers and became the 14-year veteran owner of Cranemaster, Shawn had a very different life out in Southern California. In the 1980’s, SoCal was the place to be, if you were an accomplished musician (as Shawn is) and involved in the Rock n’ Roll scene. Shawn is a keyboardist with a helluva resume; working with the band, Chaos, he opened for acts like Motley Crue, Great White, Rat, Warrant, plus other stars that studded the music scene of the 80’s. Food is another passion of Shawn’s that he gets to flex in The Boondocks. Shawn was mentored into the food business by none other than Carl Karcher. If you don’t know who he is, that’s okay... you know his accomplishments. Carl is the entrepreneur tycoon that began Carl’s Jr. and now owns the Hardee’s empire. Eventually, Shawn tired of the Southern California scene and relocated to Oklahoma. With his history, he knows

what it takes to make it happen, and the food at Boondocks is simple, delicious and affordable. Try the Charburger...it is quickly becoming famous. Check out Facebook for upcoming events like the Grand Opening: Acts include IMZADI and Chris Garrett, and will be emceed by Lynn Hernandez from KMOD. Be sure to meet everyone at The Boondocks on Saturday, September 13th as they partner with Myers-Duren Harley-Davidson® to host the Muscular Dystrophy Association Benefit Poker Run. Win food and prizes and ride for a great cause! Besides special events, Wynne has live music every weekend, Karaoke every Wednesday, plus NFL Sunday Ticket on eight televisions throughout the place ensures that your entertainment needs will be met. Like us on Facebook (The Boondocks Grill and Bar) and check there to find the music lineup for the weekend, as well as specials and other events! ~CMac
