CANNABIS BECOMING A PROBLEM?
For many years there has been an idea going around the cannabis community that using cannabis is not addictive and cannot be addictive. This has since been disproven and studies have shown using cannabis can lead to an addiction. The CDC says that the likelihood of becoming addicted is about 10%. However, with the number of people using marijuana growing so quickly, even at 10%, there are a lot of people going through a cannabis addiction and withdrawal symptoms.

by SARAH PRATER MS, RD/LD Does cannabis improve fitness? The question of many people who exercise, cannabis scientists, down to elite athletes and their trainers have been trying to figure out more recently. More specifically, does it help runners, run longer or faster? The New York Times reported that more ultra marathon runners have been partaking in cannabis consumption because of the benefits. Is cannabis creating a runner’s high? So far, research is lacking, but there are some other interesting points to consider about cannabis use among runners. A surprising benefit that has been reported by runners, is that cannabis can actually help them breathe better. Cannabis users and researchers are reporting that cannabis can be a bronchodilator. A bronchodilator is a type of medication that makes breathing easier by relaxing the muscles in the lungs and widening the airways (bronchi).

A bronchodilator is a type of medication that makes breathing easier by relaxing the muscles in the lungs and widening the airways (bronchi). However, there is a caveat, because smoke (of any kind), can also be an airway irritant that can trigger inflammation causing increased coughing and wheezing, therefore making breathing more difficult. Appears that cannabis users and researchers are leaning towards 1-3 puffs of cannabis that can give bronchodilation benefits without causing a coughing fit. Very few studies have attempted to measure this, with nothing conclusive, but this could be mostly due to research limitations and poor design of the scientific methods and testing. Is it the effects of cannabis or the release of endorphins that allude to the feeling of a runner’s high? The endorphins are molecules released when your body feels pain or stress and released during pleasurable activities like exercise, massages, eating, and sex. They help to relieve pain, reduce stress and improve their sense of well-being, which are all things that cannabis users would report that cannabis does for them as well. Some scientists believe that cannabis and the cannabinoids that our bodies make (endocannabinoids), like anandamide, can stimulate opioid receptors, giving that relaxing feeling. An alternative hypothesis from a small study speculated that anandamide is elevated after running which creates the runner’s high and is not due to endorphin release. The researchers of this study also suggested that using cannabis before running (or any exercise) can “jumpstart” the endorphin release. California’s Legendary Emerald Triangle Steps up With Campaign to Cultivate New Visitors, One Toke at a Time
Despite grants and training programs, social equity businesses are struggling to survive.
MENDOCINO COUNTY, Calif. It’s a budding industry and one that tourism destinations are quickly cultivating given legal cannabis sales in the U.S., are projected to hit $37 billion in 2024*. Just as wine turned California into a tourism hotspot, legal cannabis and tourism-related experiences are certain to blow the roof off.
DENVER — Ari Cohen was set up for success in Denver’s trailblazing weed market. He parlayed that experience into running operations for a multi-state marijuana edibles brand after moving to Colorado more than five years ago. And Denver is home to one of the most mature marijuana markets in the world, with $689 million in sales last year.
By the end of the year, New Yorkers are set to be able to legally buy cannabis for recreational use, and the dispensaries selling those products will be owned by people most affected by harsh drug laws.
Forbes estimates cannabis tourism is now a $1.7 billion industry and California’s “bud basket” is ripe for the take. “With 68% of Americans supporting adult use and half of millennials noting access to legal recreational cannabis as important when choosing a vacation destination, luring this new market is key to smoking the competition,*” says Travis Scott, Executive Director of Visit Mendocino County. Whether seeking to reconnect, ramp up wellness, boost creativity or chill in an ancient grove of redwoods, cannabis-related tourism is on the uptick. Travelers are seeking out more than just a novel dispensary. Source: www.businesswire.com

As weed legalization spreads across the country, white-owned cannabis companies are overwhelmingly the ones raking in billions of dollars a year selling a drug that disproportionately landed people of color behind bars. To counter the trend, cities like Oakland, Calif., and Cambridge, Mass. have launched initiatives to diversify their marijuana industries and offer business opportunities for those stung by the war on drugs — only to find themselves struggling to get those programs off the ground. The state’s weed market is already one of the largest in the country, surpassing $2 billion in annual sales since 2020. A challenge facing policymakers is how to give new entrepreneurs a boost in a market with well-established players. Source: politico.com
As the state's cannabis industry rolls out — estimated to generate billions in tax revenue, New York officials aim to avert what’s happened with legalization in other states, where those who entered the market had existing means to start businesses. This meant low-income communities of color most affected by the war on drugs were left out. New Yorkers will soon have to navigate a variety of cannabis licenses, funds to start businesses and policies meant to address historic racist practices in law enforcement. Adults over 21 can already carry and use certain amounts of weed thanks to the state's 2021 Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act. But as of now, it’s still illegal for New Yorkers to sell cannabis for recreational use. In July, the Office of Cannabis Management sent cease and desist letters to over 50 stores the state said were illegally selling cannabis. That's soon changing.
The first retail dispensaries to open will be from licensees part of the coveted conditional adult-use retail dispensary (CAURD) program. They are expected to open before the end of the year. From there, the state is set to unveil more dispensaries and other licenses for the industry. On July 14, the state Cannabis Control Board passed regulations and the application for CAURD licenses. Approximately 150 licenses will be issued, accompanied by a $200 million fund from the state to operate the new business. A business can expect to receive up to $1.5 million to help establish a dispensary. Qualifying is highly selective. CAURD’s application window is expected to open at the end of August. Those interested must pay a $2,000 nonrefundable application and license fee. Applicants also must indicate the preferred geographic region to operate a dispensary. A mockup of the application is already available at Cannabis.ny.gov.

WHAT IS IT, HOW TO DO IT, AND EVERYTHING YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT IT. Written by: Tatiana Melendez
You never really knew how many shades of gold you can make out of green until you have seen the cannabis concentrates section of a dispensary or a cannabis convention. Seeing and smelling well-made marijuana concentrates for the first time may make you crave sushi if you love it, as wasabi is one of the only things on this planet that resembles the texture of wax. Or, if you are like me, seeing the strange exotic dab tools covered in bright, sweet, and aromatic substances sends the mind flashing back to memories of eating with chopsticks for the first time; the blow torch may create a craving for crème Brulee, cherries jubilee, or gourmet smores. If you are relatively new to the concentrated world, let me walk you through some essential basics of the shining gold you have discovered. Dabbing gets its name from the small blobs of concentrate that, when combined with a special rig- a dab rig- can get you wholly and thoroughly high. Dab aficionados across the country use the number “710,” which looks like the word “OIL” if you flip it upside down. This 710 symbolizes the culture of dabbing and vaping concentrated cannabis commonly extracted with high pressurized butane oil or with ice water, the same way the number 420 represents raw cannabis flower smoking culture. Dabs are typically done as single-serving hits of cannabis concentrate that are usually no bigger than your pinky nail.
And before you say,
“I need more than that tiny dab,” let me assure you, that is plenty. Dabs are concentrated cannabinoids, and even that tiny amount can get you well and truly messed up. It is one of the main reasons people love dabs-- their increased potency. Another primary compound is terpenes. Terpenes are very fragile compounds that are extremely sensitive to heat. Some extraction methods allow concentrate manufacturers to create dabs with rich concentrations of terpenes that make for a much more flavorful final product. Cannabis concentrates have opened up a world of new flavors and textures that provide cannabis with unique ways to experience far beyond what is used to form the flower. While the higher potency of dabs is a pro for some, it can also be a con for others, particularly users who have not tried concentrates before or have a low tolerance for THC. For these users, the high cannabinoid concentration of dabs can cause negative experiences and side effects such as nausea, dizziness, and paranoia. So, start super small and then go big!

TO DAB RIGHT YOU WILL NEED THESE FIVE ESSENTIAL DAB TOOLS.
An "oil rig", is a water pipe designed to smoke concentrates.
The dabber is specialized for the task of scooping and dabbing your hash oil or wax onto the nail of your oil rig.
Simply a container to store your cannabis extract.
This is a small blow torch used to heat the nail for smoking your concentrates or extracts. 15 AUGUST 2022
thechronicmagazine.com
The nail fits on your oil rig and is where you "dab" your extract. They either come with a dome or are domeless.
You might be familiar with some of these terms, or maybe your favorite budtender has mentioned them before: Wax is a type of BHO with a thick, sticky, waxy texture similar to crystallized honey. Shatter is a type of BHO with a clear, brittle, glassy texture that shatters easily. Budder is a type of BHO that is agitated during extraction to create a thick, creamy extract with a butter-like consistency. Live resin is a unique extract made with live cannabis buds that are flash-frozen after harvest to preserve different terpenes and cannabinoids than dried and cured buds. Rosin a solventless extract made by pressing dried flowers with a hydraulic press. Due to the lack of butane, this is probably the most preferred for those looking to keep it as clean as possible. Pretty basic, right? It seems to be, but I was not truly satisfied with the information on the internet. I wanted to get more of a “real feel” to how this process comes to be. Specifically in Oklahoma. So, why not reach out to the makers of the best RSO in the state (IMO). Yes, RareXtracts out of Tulsa. If you have not had a chance to try their products during pop-ups or community block parties, I suggest you do! From the makers themselves: “Rosin is available in two types “hash rosin & flower rosin.” Hash rosin is usually much more desired than a flower because flower rosin only squishes the flowers forcing resin to bleed off the buds. But hash rosin first captures the resin of the buds with ice and water, then squeezes the resin through a series of lower micron screens, further refining the rosin and raising its demand. Shatter, wax, Terp sauce, buffer, and diamonds are all achieved through the same extraction method. It is post-extraction handling that changes the structures. Shatter is not just a BHO product; it is made with light hydrocarbons. It is made using vacuum pressure to force homogenize the terpenes and cannabinoids; shatter cannot be made without a vacuum chamber. Without this vacuum assistance, they would separate.” They also stated live resin is also a hydrocarbon extraction. It must always be made with fresh frozen whole plant material. When producing this product, the processor must go through more controlled methods to ensure no moments of thawing can occur. Essentially, live resin extraction is like a staircase you walk down where each step is colder and colder. Fresh freeze biomass, critically freezes solvent, and critically freeze equipment; only after these standards are met can you begin the extraction process.
“Terp sauce is made from live resin. First, you make your solute (extracted hash in liquid form), also referred to as mother liqueur. Then you allow your cannabinoids to fall into their crystal form via pressure, environmental, or temperature assistance. After filtering, you separated your thc-a diamonds from your Terp sauce.”
There are so many ways to enjoy concentrates, and as mentioned above, it is usually done with a dabbing rig. To a novice, low temp dabbing is an overly complicated way of consuming dabs. On the other hand, it is the only way to enjoy quality concentrates as a connoisseur. Low-temperature dabs require a carb cap, patience, and more time than a high-temp dab. However, the results are more satisfying. Flavorful terpenes and potent cannabinoids like THC vaporize at relatively low temperatures. As a result, some of those precious components are burned off immediately during a high-temperature dab. Not to mention, harmful chemicals are released at high temperatures. Hot-temperature dabs are harsher and provide some people enjoy an immediate head rush. However, the effects associated with cannabis do not seem to last as long as they would with an equally sized low-temperature dab. Honestly, friends, the best way to experiment with dabbing- or any new marijuana endeavor for that matter- is to start small and take it slow. Dabs are concentrated cannabinoids (the minimum is usually 70% THC or CBD!), so it does not take a lot to get high. If this is your first-time dabbing, try one hit and wait five minutes to see how your body reacts. You’ll typically feel an effect immediately, but those effects won’t reach their peak until five or ten minutes. Be patient. You do not want to overdo it on your first hit. If you do not feel anything or need more to be satisfied, hit the dab rig again and go from there. I’d love to hear what’s your favorite. My love for rosin, I find that it produces a unique high. While every person experiences cannabis differently, I described the effects as more clear-headed, uplifting, or sedating (depending on the strain) than the high I am used to from smoking flowers. What is yours?

MIND MATTERS IS MENTAL HEALTH A GLOBAL EPIDEMIC? Written by: Mc Dawn Certified Cannabis Therapy Consultant & Student Advisor at The Cannabis Holistic Institute
There are several recent events in the news today that pull the heartstrings and tug at the souls of many of us. Trauma and stress are everywhere. Trauma and stress are everywhere. It affects everyone, all age groups, with no bias. How the brain deals with stress is not the same for each of us. Some people can bury their stress deep down. Others, build walls around their pain until the pain starts breaking through. PTSD can be mild, or it can be severe. Sufferers of PTSD may have minimal to significant physical, behavioral, and mental health issues. Covid kept many people and children indoors. In-person human interaction and contact declined, and people missed people. Talking to your grocery clerk was the highlight of your day. Depression hit so many of us during covid, especially the children. The recent Uvalde, Texas school incident has affected several families and a school full of children for years to come. PTSD affects the youngest victims most often. What impact will this have on who they are? Is it possible to heal a world suffering from the effects of war, domestic violence, and physical abuse? Studies and data suggest that support is needed for these children and their families both here and abroad. The children of our world are the future, how will we assist them? The effects of PTSD affect about 6% of the populous in the United States. "Children may experience acute PTSD, with hyperarousal, re-experiencing, and sleep disruption, or chronic PTSD, characterized by dissociation, restricted affect, sadness, and detachment (6). "Exposure to trauma increases both internalizing and externalizing reactions in children." (“War and Children - American Journal of Psychiatry”) (American Journal of Psychiatry Residents Journal, July 1, 2017, | Author Michelle Liu, M.D.)” Meet Rayan, a lifelong cannabis user who is 79 years old. Originally from the Middle East, he relocated to the US in 1972. Rayan grew up in a country constantly at odds. He does not discuss politics or the state of his country. "Our family was from a village that is over four thousand years old. One day we were told that everyone must leave, and we could no longer live in our homes. Everyone left and took what they could. Our path led us to the hills, where we took refuge in caves with other families. I am not sure how long we lived in the caves, but it was several months." What impact did this have on your family? "In our home, we did not discuss such topics. Our father rented a house and we continued living. Displacement of families was a constant occurrence. There is an easy tendency to hate during these times and want to fight. It will take a new generation to stop the fighting.
If not, it will become a repetitive cycle for each generation. There have been times of peace, but they were not long-lasting. There was and is always someone dying. Families were always in mourning. A bullet struck my father's stomach one day while he was at the market. He was purchasing food for our family. It was just a matter of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. A brief time later, he passed away. 2 or 3 months after my father’s passing, one of my brothers joined a demonstration for justice. He was shot and killed during the demonstration. I have no memory of my mother crying or grieving. Family members stepped in to help my mother raise us. When my brothers were old enough to find work, they would contribute to the care of the family. Seeing blood and death is normal in our world. It should not be." "As a young man, I became a police officer, and I did this for several years. I was offered the opportunity to go to college in the US or Canada on a full scholarship when I was 25 years old. I took advantage of that opportunity and chose the United States. Living in the US has allowed me to live a more peaceful and enjoyable life. I am married with two children and enjoying my retirement years. It is my wish that my children will never experience what I did and will always remain innocent of war. War is a dark place, and nothing good comes from it." "Cannabis? Back home, we did not call it that. It was common and easily accessible where I grew up. When I was a teenager, my friends and I would smoke cannabis or hashish together all the time. The bud, the leaves, whatever was smokeable. Cannabis has had its place in my life. Despite my age, I still enjoy smoking cannabis or hash today. I do have to say that the potency is much stronger than it was back then. My wife is still trying to convince me of the medical benefits, I just know that I feel relaxed, my mind is quieter, and life is just a little easier for a little while. ” During coffee with a pharmacist, I asked her where the medical community has failed our veterans and others. She replied with the following, “There is a neurological condition known as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Medication can be used to treat the brain, and the results are good. By not providing the mental health component, we fail. There is no point in a patient taking the medication if the patient's mental health and wellbeing are not addressed at the same time. You must heal the whole body” I could not agree more with my pharmacist friend. People who are suffering from trauma, stress, anxiety, and other medical conditions can often benefit from mental health support.

Cannabis can be used as a potential therapeutic modality. It is no secret that veterans and others who suffer from mental health issues have used cannabis to alleviate pain and emotional pain, and they would never give it up. They are now turning to the possible benefits of psilocybin and psychedelics in addition to cannabis. These additional treatment modalities have shown success in people suffering from PTSD and mental health issues. Scientists across the globe are seeing the benefits of cannabis research on the brain receptors, while European doctors are studying the causes and effects of children living in high-stress conditions such as those experienced today in Ukraine. This group of doctors is currently researching the potential use of cannabis to help decrease stressors in children. It is always important to note that Cannabis does not work for everyone and is not for everyone. If you a struggling and need to speak with someone, please do not hesitate. Oklahomans for Sensible Marijuana Laws turned in to the secretary of state's office about 164,000 signatures — significantly more than the 94,910 signatures required to qualify for a statewide vote. Throughout the signature-gathering phase, the campaign saw a groundswell of support and favorable polling for legalizing recreational cannabis, said Ryan Kiesel, senior campaign adviser. Come November, "we're expecting Oklahomans to say yes to this," he said. Most adults could partake in recreational cannabis under SQ 820 - State Question 820 would legalize recreational or "adult-use" marijuana for anyone age 21 or older. If approved, the question would impose a 15% excise tax on all recreational marijuana sales, which is higher than the 7% excise tax levied on all medical marijuana sales. The new tax revenue would be divided among the state's General Revenue Fund, localities where sales occur, school districts, the court system and drug treatment programs.
SQ 820 would not do away with the state's medical marijuana program. Rather, the recreational and medical cannabis programs would operate alongside each other with oversight from the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority. Criminal justice reforms are a major piece of the state question. Under SQ 820, the changes to Oklahoma's marijuana laws would apply retroactively, which would allow some drug offenders to petition to have their convictions reversed and criminal records expunged.

THINGS TO TELL YOUR LAWYER. Can you really tell your lawyer anything? Well, it depends. I am here to tell you that you should be telling your lawyer everything you possibly can related to their representation of you. Lawyers are bound by confidentiality between attorney and client; this allows us to get all the details from you to represent you to the best of our ability. For example, if you have a lawyer for your business, you should be telling them things about your business, contracts your business has entered, if there is an issue with an employee, and anything else that may impact the business. If you hire a lawyer for a criminal charge, you should be telling them EVERYTHING related to that charge. The Oklahoma Rules of Professional Conduct can be found in the Oklahoma Statutes within Title 5 Attorneys and the State Bar. Rule 1.6 – Confidentiality of Information lays out the rules regarding confidentiality and the duty your lawyer has. Part (a) of Rule 1.6 provides “a lawyer shall not reveal information relating to the representation of a client unless the client gives informed consent, the disclosure is impliedly authorized in order to carry out the representation or the disclosure is permitted…” This rule is extremely important for clients as it provides protection for the sensitive information you need to share with your lawyer. The rule goes on to define the permitted disclosures, such as “to prevent reasonably certain death or substantial bodily harm; to prevent the client from committing: a crime;” These two are the big ones lawyers have to keep in the back of their minds. If you tell your lawyer you are going to harm yourself or others, even in the context of attorney-client communication, the lawyer may disclose that information to a third party, such as a reporting agency or health facility. If you tell your lawyer you are going to move five hundred pounds of product to Texas next week they can disclose that information to a third party without violating attorney-client confidentiality. BUT if you tell your lawyer that you moved five hundred pounds of product to Texas last week, we are to keep that in confidence IF you have retained your lawyer for that purpose. Another key part of this rule is “information relating to the representation of a client” if you tell your lawyer about something outside of their representation, like the affair your neighbor is having that no one knows about yet, they are not required to keep that confidential pursuant to this rule, because that is outside of the information relating to their representation.

five WHO HELPED PAVE THE WAY TO GREATER HERBAL ACCEPTANCE
Certified Cannabis Therapy Consultant
There are just too many pioneers to name only five. There are industry leaders on so many levels and countless accounts of the influences of Tommy Chong, Brownie Mary, Ed Rosenthal, and Jack Herrer for the greater understanding of cannabis. So, who do you pick? For this write-up, I’m not going to offer specific individuals, instead, I will offer some of the collective groups that have developed or are developing the way forward in today’s markets- which like the pioneers studied in our 6th-grade social studies class, they experience challenges and sometimes reap the rewards that endurance can bring. Others leave this earth before the realization of their work can be properly recognized. So, in the words of David Letterman, let's get to tonight’s top 5. Here we go:
THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA You read that correctly. Even though marijuana remains federally illegal today, the United States in the past reveals a pioneer spirit towards the plant. It is well documented that, in the 1800s, cannabis was prescribed to patients and was available in local pharmacies. It was also noted that physicians and scientists could not pin down a dosage regimen that provided consistent effects for the majority of patients. Reports of individuals having incidents of delirium and hallucinations began to alarm the public. What may not be well known is the high dosages prescribed – some reports of 3 to 5 grams. I’m sure there were some individuals who took the dosages into consideration and did not panic, but for the majority, the damage was already done and the pioneer spirit started to fade. Today, it remains a necessity to report as accurately and comprehensively as possible so the United States can avoid any further delays in the progress of cannabis.
OUTDOOR CANNABIS GROWERS Even though the industry requires a great deal of plants to be grown indoors, it is the outdoor growers who pioneered the path. Actually, back in the day, “a path” is exactly what they did not want to create. I wonder if the original growers are still walking around with duct tape on the bottom of their shoes and camouflaging their plant containers? The outdoor growers of today give the public the image that cannabis needs – which, is nature. No doubt, consumers require more products than can be produced naturally, but we still like to think our buds are getting the best Nature has to offer. Mother Nature has always delivered a powerful message – the message of purity, balance, and mindfulness which growers all aim to emulate.

CANNABIS EDUCATORS Even though I do not consider myself a pioneer on the subject of cannabis education, I have lived up to my Japanese “to teach” symbol tattoo… by educating on many subject areas, including cannabis. To all of the individuals who are trying to help get the word out that:
HEMP IS CANNABIS; CBD IS CANNABIS; MARIJUANA IS CANNABIS; AND HIGH THC CONTENT DOESN’T NECESSARILY REVEAL THE SWEET SPOT… You are helping to transform the mindset of marijuana. Informing the public of the benefits of cannabis, in relatable terms, leads to a stronger consumer understanding. Eventually, the public will see that cannabis can be used to heal a wound just as aloe vera can be used to heal a sunburn. And, eventually, the United States will look to cannabis educators to help get this country where it needs to be.
YOU, THE VOTER
I actually wanted to change this one after I saw it in print because it sounds so corny - but it’s the truth. Without people putting a stamp of authority, aka their vote, what we have today in the United States would not exist, period. Nothing official around this country gets done without a vote, just ask the individuals in Oklahoma who delivered over 160,000 signatures to the capitol to let the powers, that be, know that they are serious about the progression of cannabis. Individuals can profess their desires as loud as they want, however we live in a country where being loud doesn’t necessarily get the results desired, but the vote does. So, you the voter can stand tall and be proud knowing you too are among pioneers.

PRODUCTIVE CANNABIS CONSUMERS
Everyone who consumes cannabis and shows the world that marijuana does not slow them down, make them lazy, or be irresponsible – you are a pioneer. Every parent who consumes cannabis and shows the world they can raise their children in an attentive and loving way – you are a pioneer. Every person who consumes and is showing up in the world thriving physically, mentally, and spiritually – you are a pioneer. The stigma of the stoner has long been the catalyst for ridicule, oppression, and misunderstanding, but productive cannabis users are showing the world that the effects of cannabis are far less intrusive and far less restrictive than alcohol and prescription drugs on the user, and in cases, can be highly effective and life-changing. So, a victorious cheer to those of you who can use the plant in whatever form safely and responsibly in your everyday lives – you too are pioneers. I know this has been an unorthodox top five, but I hope that you have enjoyed each one and found a glimpse of yourself in at least one of them. As you can see, a pioneer can take many forms and should be celebrated just as much as our sports celebrities and actors/directors. And like the pioneers that forged westward in early America, cannabis has encountered hardships and losses but has endured through it all to provide opportunities that reach far beyond the plant itself. Again, I hope you have enjoyed my top five and will take the time to reflect on who would be in your top five. I also encourage you to take it one step further and give those pioneers a shout-out of your own… even if it is solely to the universe – someone is always listening.
Is marijuana addictive? Yes, in the sense that most of the really pleasant things in life are worth endlessly repeating. ― Richard Neville

Slappin' Sativa Steak Salad Yields: 4 servings
Approximately 45 minutes Marinade Time: 30 minutes to 24 hours
@medibles_ok
INGREDIENTS 2 medium heads Romaine Lettuce,
STEAK MARINADE
washed & torn
1# Flank steak
1 Cucumber, sliced 1 Green Pepper, julienned ½ Red Onion, thinly sliced 2 Hard Boiled Eggs, diced (Optional)
What’s up and welcome back all my canna chefs out there, this has been a really warm summer and I don’t know about you but I’m looking forward to a little cooler temps. This summer has been full of lots of fun times, lake and river trips, volleyball tournaments, and concerts. I know I'm really looking forward to seeing Slightly Stoopid with Fortunate Youth, Common Kings, and Pepper, are you kidding me!? Some of my favorite reggae groups altogether. It’s going to be amazing, alright now back to this month's recipe, I’m doing one of my favorites from my time living in Pittsburgh. I haven’t seen any other salad like it anywhere I’ve been during my travels. I call the Chef Buz version of this salad the Slappin’ Sativa Steak Salad, tons of flavor and french fries too, why not? Like the Primanti Bros sandwich, another Pittsburgh original, this Pittsburgh salad has fries on it also, just like bacon, fries are good on just about anything. So grab a bag of your favorite herb, twist one up and let’s get Cooking with a Buz!
1 package of Cherry Tomatoes, cut in half 1 cup shredded Mozzarella Cheese
⅓ cup Canna Olive Oil ¼ cup Soy Sauce ¼ cup Worcestershire Sauce 2 tbsp. Lime juice 2 tbsp. Light Brown Sugar, Packed ¼ tsp. Smoke Flavoring
1(16oz.) Frozen French Fries 1 Bottle of Catalina French Dressing
DIRECTIONS 1. First, marinate the steak, you can marinate it for as little as 30 minutes but I like to marinate it for a minimum of 3 hours. To make the marinade, in a bowl, mix the canna olive oil, soy, Worcestershire, lime juice, brown sugar, and smoke flavoring whisking well to ensure the brown sugar is dissolved. 2. Pour into a large Ziploc bag or Tupperware container and add the steak, make sure the steak is covered in the marinade, and cover and refrigerate. While that’s chillin’ let's get the salad washed and torn up, add the green peppers, onions, cucumbers, eggs, and tomatoes. 3. Toss and mix well, then cover and refrigerate until ready to serve. Once

you’re ready to cook the steak, start your French fries in the air fryer or oven and get the grill preheated to medium heat, and lightly oil it, cook your steak to your desired temperature, I like mine medium rare. 4. Portion out the salads and slice the steak and place over the salad, now add the fries and top with mozzarella cheese and a drizzle of Catalina Dressing, dive in, and enjoy!

BLUE GELATO STRAIN
Green Country Cannabis Green Country Cannabis has done it again, dropping their new strain Blue Gelato. Barney’s Farm’s Blue Gelato strain, also known as Blue Gelato #41, is a sweet hybrid with a lot to offer. The sour blueberry aroma is an ideal lazy day strain that mixes Blueberry and the infamous Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies strains to create something truly delicious (some sources report their phenotypes had Sherbet genetics mixed in there as well). From the fruity terpene profile to the psychedelic, highminded clarity of each drag, Blue Gelato rarely disappoints. Flavor and aroma are on point. We want to thank Green Country Cannabis for always bringing the fire to Oklahoma shelves. Don’t miss this new drop!

GORILLA SNACKS STRAIN MidWest Exotics MidWest Exotics throws out another heater. GG-#4 Lovers get ready, Gorilla Snacks is a new cultivar the team at MidWest Exotics has worked hard to add to their lineup. Gorilla Snacks is marked by medium-sized flowers that cling together in a tapered shape, somewhat like miniature pinecones. The structure of these buds hews more indica, with small, broad leaves that curl tightly inward to form a dense core. These leaves themselves are a pale shade of sage green and are shot through with vibrant yellow hairs -- which are actually pistils, botanical structures meant to catch pollen from flowering male plants. Finally, a thick coating of sticky, glassy trichomes covers all visible nooks and crannies of these buds. With an amazing aroma, flavor, and effects, Gorilla Snacks is sure to be a crowd favorite. Thank you to the team at MidWest Exotics for always providing quality medicine to Oklahoma patients.

WELLNESS Terpineol As the summer comes to its hottest peak we look at the new season coming, harvest season. Which you could have guessed is my all-time favorite. The sweet smell of cannabis cultivation is right around the corner. And to celebrate that we move on with the next terpene on our list, Terpineol. The aroma of this Terpineol can be best described as floral-like, apple blossom, reminiscent of lilacs, lime blossoms, eucalyptus sap, and pine trees. It can be a tad citrusy in some cultivars. Terpineol tastes like mint, highlighting the cooling pine flavors. Terpene can also be found in herbs such as thyme and chamomile. I personally love the cooling, calm effect in the heat. You can find Terpeniol in cultivars such as: White Widow Jack Herer Girl Scout Cookies Sour Diesel Fire OG OG Kush Terpineol relaxes heavily and it’s usually one of the terpenes responsible for the notorious couch lock effect. It is definitely potent when it comes to its medicinal properties. Terpineol benefits include antibiotic and antioxidant properties.
“It was found that Linalool and Terpineol were the active components of lavender and they had a depressing effect on the central nervous system (CNS)” stated by research found in Science Direct. Which the central nervous system controls most of the body's functions, including awareness, movements, sensations, thoughts, speech, and memory. The central nervous system consists of the brain and spinal cord. The brain plays a central role in some reflex movements that can occur via the spinal cord pathways.

It’s been crazy hot since the end of May and many of us have been looking for any way to cool off. There are a million ways to chill in the summer but not many people think of using cannabis to do it. Studies like that of the Department of Pharmacology, University of Aberdeen, have shown that cannabis can cool down the body. While this may not make sense to many of us we must be reminded that a hot drink cools you down better than a cold one, spicy food cools you too. Sometimes science just doesn’t make any real sense but they’re the experts! Be sure to drink lots of water this summer since that is the best way to be safe while cooling down with cannabis. While cannabis is a cooling agent it can also make you feel more thirsty than usual. Always keep a drink on standby, water, juice, tea, slushies', anything is better than dehydrating in the summer. Your skin can be dehydrated too, even if you drink a lot of water, using lotion and sunscreen help keep you safe and healthy throughout the summer. Since science says cannabis cools the body down here are some of the best ways to use cannabis to chill this summer:
>Simply Smoking For this method, you don’t have to change too much about how you intake cannabis. If you are more into joints, blunts, or bongs, smoking like it’s a regular day is the way to go. Some people suggest that if you are going to try smoking cannabis to lower your body temperature, smoking Indica leaning strains is the best idea. This is so you can relax both inside and out without feeling the need to get up and get moving like a typical Sativa might make you feel. Some popular Indica strains are Hindu Kush, Afghan Kush, Granddaddy Purp, Northern Lights, Girl Scout Cookies, Wedding Cake, and OG Kush.

>Cannabis Infused Drinks I know we were just talking about how hot drinks cool you down but not everyone will adhere to that. With cannabis-infused drinks, you can make them hot or cold, even if the cold drinks feel better in the summer. Some dispensaries sell pre-made cannabisinfused drinks like Keef, Oh Hi, Dixie Elixirs, and more. If you don’t want one of the premade drinks you can always find tinctures, syrups, or crystals that you can mix into any drink you want. (Strawberry THC syrup and lemonade are one of my favorites!) If you want to mix these into alcoholic drinks, be very sure you don’t do too much as crossing THC and alcohol might not be the best way to cool down in the summer.
>Infused Topicals Cannabis topicals are a great way to get THC or CBD into your system without ingesting anything. However, not all topicals will penetrate the skin and get into the bloodstream. When looking for a cooling topical, try to find one that is transdermal so you can soak up moisture and THC at the same time. Retaining your skin's moisture is a great way to cool down when it’s 105 degrees out. If you can’t find any topicals with THC that you like, just using regular lotion can help quell the heat.
>Summer Themed Edibles While edibles can fall under the same category as infused drinks if you don’t want to get a wave of warm smoke in your face an edible is a good way to go. In the summer we all want something refreshing, make your own infused popsicles (add some fruit pieces in the homemade popsicles you won’t regret it), or you can try your hand at infusing a watermelon. (As they do on the internet with alcohol, just swap it with cannabis!) An infused key lime pie, lemon bars, raspberry cheesecake... There are a million ways to make summer treats filled with cannabis.

>Clothing
>Eat Lighter
Yep, we are going to talk about hemp clothing. Wearing hemp-based fabric is going to make you feel cooler than cotton-based clothing. Hemp clothing is lightweight and wicks moisture off the body quickly, it even has some antibacterial properties so if you accidentally leave it in a soaking wet ball next to the pool it won’t grow mildew as quickly as cotton would.
Eating lighter foods is another good way to keep the body cool. This is due to your body not having to work as hard when breaking down the food, either because it is not as much or because the food is easier to digest. Some lighter foods are salads (leafy greens, things like chicken salad, or vegetables mixed with quinoa), grilled chicken, tuna, and fruits. One of my favorite light meals is a poke bowl!
Hemp is also much more sustainable as a whole, in the same stretch of land hemp will produce 200% more fabric than cotton. (Remember this: the only reason we don’t prioritize hemp is the stigma surrounding it. It would help the overall sustainability of our planet if we used hemp for more products.) Once you’ve tried all those ways to chill, you can always do the more common summer chilling activities and just add cannabis to them. Enhancing the ways you can cool off and relax can make an average day feel like a mini vacation even if you still have to go to work tomorrow.
>Sleep in Your Birthday Suit
>Sun Blocking Curtains
This might sound like a crazy idea to some of us, but sleeping in the nude is a great way to cool off. Although this may not be a solid option for some people there is no better way to sleep cooler than without anything holding your body heat to you. Some say that sleeping in the nude can even help
If you’re like me and live in an area where the sun never quits and always wants to beam down onto your house. Sun-blocking curtains are a lifesaver! These special curtains can cut down the heat coming through your windows by nearly 25%, this helps the house stay cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. You’re basically insulating your windows! Blackout curtains can do nearly the same thing and you can find those all just about any store that sells curtains.
reduce your stress and anxiety levels. It can even make you feel more comfortable in your own skin, loving your body is the first step to loving even more of yourself! If you can’t sleep naked try looking into some hemp pajamas to keep the clothing light and airy. Summer can be a really fun and relaxing adventure or feel like walking through the devil’s neighborhood with a parka on. Whichever path you choose, at least consider bringing something to cool you down. With cannabis helping more of us chill, in all the ways, this summer, remember to use cannabis wisely and not overdo it. While it may help us relax, greening out is very possible and not fun, especially when it’s in the 90s outside. Also, be sure to wear sunscreen, a sunburn will make staying cool even harder. Stay safe, stay hydrated, and stay chill during all the heat waves!

the United Caribbean; a Tribute to Mi Tierra, and the BIPOC Plant Community that Adds to Her Glory
" Por siempre la llamaré, ‘Preciosa’." by: Veronica Castillo
Florida, is not really the mainland, not quite an island; Mi Tierra (my land) is a peninsula, and the only state in this country that sits on 2 coasts; the Atlantic and the Gulf. Traveling the peninsula takes 13 hours from top to bottom (the bottom is the last key- not Miami- Florida literally goes into Caribbean waters.). Traveling the state on the Waterway, which takes you across the middle of the state, from coast to coast (Stuart, FL on the Atlantic, Fort Myers, FL on the Gulf), means traveling 154 miles. Visiting Florida means visiting a place that 22 million people call home. Florida is the 3rd largest state in the country and the 3rd largest cannabis market in the country. As I sit in south Miami, less than 35 miles from the Everglades, less than 250 miles from the country of Cuba, and less than 200 miles from the Bahamas; I am overwhelmed by feelings of gratitude. I left 20 years ago because all I ever wanted was to be a traveling writer that lived out of a suitcase, and not as the girl that was born here, raised here, and living her whole adult life here. Funny how life works though. As soon as I left, the mission became: “return home”. I never thought that cannabis would be the miracle, purpose, and reason for my return. After traveling the United States cross country by car 2 times, and by flights during the pandemic, I realized that for me, there is absolutely no place like home. And so, to the place where I was created, born, and raised; and to the plant that saved me, this tribute is for you and because of you; My Tribute to Mi Tierra, Florida, Feast of Flowers, honoring her glory and the plant community that adds to it. thechronicmagazine.com

Picture it, 8 Year Old Vee - North Miami I used to think that I didn’t come from a lot because the world of capitalism tells us that we don’t have anything if we don’t have material things. It took me 3 decades to see that I came from so much. I was born to 3 parents in the ’80s. I was raised by my two Puerto Rican parents- both born on the island of Puerto Rico, then like a lot of families during their time, moved over to the “mainland” for better opportunities. By the age of 8, I knew I was different; I was sort of the only kid I knew reading the Encyclopedia. At that time, I felt like no one understood me except my dad, he purchased the entire collection, from A-Z, piece by piece. I was the kid outside barefooted, in the sun for hours, reading the encyclopedia, and eating sugarcane while talking about life with my dad. Fast forward 30 years later, I am an adult, walking around barefooted, outside for hours, eating fruit and smoking cannabis while talking about life; I was always who I am.

By 8, I knew what I wanted, I saw it. While standing barefooted in the yard, I saw it so vividly and felt it so strongly; I would be a traveling writer that lives out of a suitcase.
>Picture it, Vee’s Decade of 20 Leaving the Nest I left Miami at age 20 and moved to Orlando. I was there a year and a half trying to find my way before making the decision to leave Florida for Virginia. I made it there a year and a half before making the decision to come back to Florida. I made it in the Tampa Bay area less than a year before making the decision to move to Milwaukee. I made it there less than a year before making the decision to accept a job offer in Indianapolis.

I wasn’t ready when I came back after Virginia. The life I wanted was here but I didn’t have the skills necessary to land a job in the pay bracket that I felt I needed to be in, for the life I wanted here. Everything above was essential to my journey, but it was in Indiana that I developed the on-paper skills needed to make it in life; I didn’t know that then, but it’s so clear now. I made it in Indiana for 7 years; Indiana showed me that I can adapt to being anywhere. Why? Well, I am a woman born and raised in the sunshine state, surrounded by water, and surrounded by Caribbean culture. Indiana was so far away from any of that. When I thought that I was ready to go back home to Florida, Ohio made me an offer I didn’t refuse and so, I moved there which lasted 7 years. In 2015 while sitting in the house that was barely 3 years old, I decided I would sell it, downsize, and develop a 3-year plan to finally do it. 41 AUGUST 2022

In 2018 I started selling and gifting material things. In July 2018 I packed up a small storage unit, paid 12 months upfront, packed up my car, turned in the apartment keys to management, and got on the road from Ohio to head to the west coast to begin my journey as a traveling writer living out of a suitcase.

>Florida Based Businesses in the Plant Industry: Cannabis and Veganism June 2022: pride month, Caribbean heritage month, and Juneteenth; from the top to the bottom, down the middle, and on both coasts; it’s my pleasure to introduce you all to my type of Florida cannabis and plant-based community:
From OH to KS, then CO and down to TX, then over to CA and up to WA state; journey 1 consisted of connection, learning, strengthening my craft, and learning about cannabis from people that have been nurturing the plant and providing medicine, creating legacies. I took a break in Washington. I didn’t see it then but I see it now; I picked a small apartment on Washington state's peninsula, Long Beach. It was there, on the pacific ocean while writing women in cannabis article, that I realized what my writing would be centered around in cannabis: black, brown, and/or woman-owned. When I got back in my car in 2019, the pandemic had other plans but it didn’t stop me. I am fortunate to have a network of support and belief in my mission. I was offered a base in NV and I accepted, transitioning from car to flight all over the country featuring black-owned, brown-owned, and woman-owned cannabis.
>Picture it, Mission Accomplished! Vee Returns Home I closed 2021 with a bang because I truly came to “F it up” (Drake’s way, not a bad way), being the first black/Afro-Latina writer to have visited and covered all coasts, corners, even down the middle, and all major markets of the United States cannabis industry; with over half of my work focused on black, brown, and/or woman-owned in cannabis. I celebrated the mission accomplished and welcome of 2022 here in Miami (huge thanks to 420Media LLC for sponsoring this) and continued to travel the east and midwest by car. In May 2022 I felt a strong pull, very much like the one 8-yearold Vee felt, to return home and stomp the pavement in search of the BIPOC cannabis community, cultivators growing in Florida’s soil, and to slow down and get ready for the next chapter; the Caribbean. I came home and I traveled for the first time, the entire state of Florida; from the panhandle to the very last key, both coasts, and all up and through the middle. I found exactly what and who I was looking for.

>Central Florida East Coast: The Releaf Clinic Black man-owned and woman-owned, this husband and wife duo has clinics located all over Florida! There aren’t many black-owned businesses in cannabis in Florida, especially not by someone that was once convicted and sent away over cannabis. I visited the location in St. Augustine, a few blocks away from the location of the arrest that led to that conviction. It was amazing walking into a place that is helping Floridians gain access to medical cannabis. I met team members that work in the St. Augustine location but also met a few team members that came over from other locations. I learned about how they made it through Covid, all hands on deck, and even met some patients that spoke about the team with such high regard. I’m focused on the clinic because that’s where I visited but I need to also note that Renard, one of the owners, is also a cultivator who learned how to grow in the early 2000s and started his cultivation journey in Rhode Island where he cultivated for the state's medical cannabis program.

In Closing I had a moment while writing this tribute; I almost regretted leaving because at that moment, it felt like I could’ve done more with a tribute having watched the state grow up around me. But seconds later I realized that my journey was set at birth. I had to leave, to come back, and appreciate it.

CANNABIS BECOMING A PROBLEM:
How to Manage Withdrawal?
For many years there has been an idea going around the cannabis community that using cannabis is not addictive and cannot be addictive. This has since been disproven and studies have shown using cannabis can lead to an addiction. The CDC says that the likelihood of becoming addicted is about 10%. However, with the number of people using marijuana growing so quickly, even at 10%, there are a lot of people going through a cannabis addiction and withdrawal symptoms. Many are calling a cannabis addiction Marijuana or Cannabis Use Disorder. This usage disorder is diagnosed, as reported by Yale Medicine, by “meeting at least two of the 11 criteria, which include an inability to reduce consumption, constant cravings, and relationship and social problems.” [The complete list of the 11 criteria are as follows: hazardous use, social or interpersonal problems related to use, neglected major roles to use, withdrawal, tolerance, used larger amounts/longer, repeated attempts to control the use or quit much time spent using physical or psychological problems related to use, activities given up to use, and cravings.] Yale’s research so far has shown that using pharmaceuticals to combat this disorder has been unsuccessful. “There is an urgent need to develop effective treatments, either behavioral or pharmacological, for cannabis use disorder,” says Yale Medicine psychiatrist Deepak Cyril D’Souza, MD. “It is likely that the combination of behavioral and pharmacological approaches will be superior to either alone." While Yale is a reputable resource, let’s look into another study. Research into what can be done to help with an addiction to cannabis is still ongoing, however, there are a few other reputable places we can look to for advice. According to Harvard Medical School’s Peter Grinspoon, MD, while cannabis withdrawal symptoms are not as serious and potentially life-threatening as symptoms from meth, cocaine, or opioids, they are still very real and very hard to navigate.
The commonly used treatments for cannabis withdrawal are either cognitive behavioral therapy or medication therapy, neither of which has been shown to be particularly effective. Common medications that have been used are dronabinol (which is synthetic THC); nabiximols (which is cannabis in a mucosal spray, so you aren’t actually treating the withdrawal); gabapentin for anxiety (which has a host of side effects); and zolpidem for the sleep disturbance (which also has a list of side effects). Some researchers are looking at CBD, the non-intoxicating component of cannabis, as a treatment for cannabis withdrawal.
57 AUGUST 2022
thechronicmagazine.com
If you think you might have a use disorder Grinspoon describes it like this, “if one substituted "coffee" for "cannabis," many of the 160 million Americans who guzzle coffee on a daily basis would have "caffeine use disorder," as evidenced by the heartburn and insomnia that I see every day as a primary care doctor. Many of the patients that psychiatrists label as having cannabis use disorder believe that they are fruitfully using cannabis to treat their medical conditions — without problems — and recoil at being labeled as having a disorder in the first place. This is perhaps a good indication that the definition doesn’t fit the disease.” Many other studies I looked at described medical use and recreational use as different, with different side effects. So as we can see, Harvard and Yale have nearly completely opposite conclusions in this study on cannabis use disorder. Yale says to try types of therapy and Harvard says to try types of medication. But, that doesn’t mean there aren’t ways to combat withdrawal symptoms that are credible and useful for those who need them. Let’s start with what the symptoms of marijuana withdrawal typically include: diminished appetite, mood changes, irritability, sleep difficulties, insomnia, headaches, loss of focus, cravings for marijuana, sweating, including cold sweats, chills, increased feelings of depression, and stomach problems. These can vary from mild to severe depending on the person. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms remember that you are not alone and there are ways to feel better as these symptoms pass during the initial withdrawal period, the first 24 to 72 hours can be the hardest for some people since your body is used to using cannabis frequently. It has been reported that the typical timeline for withdrawal symptoms looks something like this: the symptoms begin within the first week and tend to reach a peak after about ten days. After the peak hits, the symptoms should begin to decline over the next week to two weeks, some people last up to three weeks of decline. The definitive length of the symptoms will vary but it all depends on you and how much you used to and how frequently you would intake per day, the more you used the longer it will take to fully get over the withdrawal symptoms. It is also important to note that the American Addiction Center reported that while cannabis withdrawal symptoms are not life-threatening,
“in some individuals, there is always the potential for someone to exhibit poor judgment, be more prone to accidents, and even develop suicidal thoughts as a result of the distress and depression that can occur during cannabis withdrawal. Thus, it is suggested that individuals who intend to stop using marijuana, especially individuals who used marijuana daily or nearly daily, discontinue use of the drug under the supervision of a mental health professional.” 59 AUGUST 2022
thechronicmagazine.com
Healthline says some of the ways to fight off withdrawal symptoms are to stay hydrated and drink lots of water. Be sure to avoid sugary, caffeinated beverages like soda or coffee. Eat healthy foods to fuel your body with a generous supply of fresh fruit, vegetables, and lean protein. Try to avoid junk food because it can make you feel sluggish and irritable. [It is likely the withdrawal will make you feel irritable already, you don’t want to add to it.] Exercise every day, it is important to squeeze in at least 30 minutes of exercise each day. This provides a natural mood boost, and it can help remove toxins as you sweat. [You will excrete leftover THC in your sweat.] Lastly, find support. Surround yourself with friends, family members, and others who can help you through any withdrawal symptoms you may experience.” That last piece of advice might be the most important for people experiencing withdrawal, it isn’t healthy, mentally or physically, to do these things alone, just as the American Addiction Center suggests.
If you don’t have people close to you that you feel comfortable talking to there are other options. Detoxification centers, Inpatient rehabilitation centers, Intensive outpatient programs, support groups, and therapy are all accessible and there to help you. We, as a society, are working past the stigma that used to be associated with the aforementioned places and there is no reason to be nervous when reaching out. The people there are there for one reason only, to help you overcome addiction and withdrawal symptoms. Do not be ashamed of seeking outside help when you need it. If you think you are having problems as we described in this article, call the American Addiction Center today, (888) 453-9655, or visit americanaddictioncenters.org/notready-to-talk if you prefer texting. Here at Chronic, we want you to be safe. Take the necessary precautions, we believe in you even if you don’t believe in yourself! thechronicmagazine.com

Do You Smoke? Alpaca Bowl – An innovative cannabis delivery company that puts community first Do you dream of owning your own dispensary? Sounds exciting! Several years ago, I was assigned to oversee and run a cannabis dispensary. It was necessary for me to quickly become familiar with state and county regulations. My first task was to ensure the dispensary was compliance. Then to find out what was selling and what wasn't. We took inventory and reviewed the data. Just like running a retail business, you must be reviewing your inventory of products that are in demand and products that are taking up by shelf space. If you don't know what you're doing, it can be difficult. Respect is due to those who operate their dispensaries and correctly.

This can be a challenging environment for dispensary owners. I talked with Matt Pasqual, from the Alpaca Club in Sacramento, about the challenges of running a successful and strategic business. "Taxation is one of today's biggest challenges. “We've been fighting for lower taxes for the community,” Matt said. For some time, he and others have been campaigning on this issue. The California legislature passed AB 195 in June of 2022. With this change, the state's cannabis cultivation tax has been eliminated, and its excise tax has been capped at 15%. For at least three years, it will remain at 15%. There is still a lot of work to be done, but it is a start. Among growers, distributors, and resellers, taxes are the most important issue."
.
Matt is a part of a campaign to educate customers about the benefits of cannabis with Dr. Bonners and Sun and Earth. Currently, Matt runs two delivery dispensaries, one in Sacramento and one in Venice. There will be a third store in Fresno and then another in the Inland Empire of Los Angeles. There is no doubt that he has a solid business plan. I wondered how he balances out his store and still supports small farms. According to him, 80% of his flower is purchased from small batch farms in Mendocino, Humboldt, and Nevada Counties. Considering that he runs the Alpaca Club dispensary, he even buys from farms with Alpacas (Down Om Farms, Swami, and SunRoots). “Want to smoke? Alpaca bowl for you”, is a well-known meme and joke that encompasses the best world of stoners. Through sustainability, inclusion, and their love of weed.” What makes the Alpaca Club so successful? Business planning that is smart, and customer service that is knowledgeable and excellent. Clients at the Alpaca Club are given the attention and education they deserve. There are many dispensaries throughout California and the United States to choose from. A few dispensaries specialize in small farmer products, while others do not. They know their products and how they can assist in the medical cannabis industry. The majority of them do not. It is rare to find a dispensary that meets your recreational needs and your medicinal needs at the same time. Many of us rely on medicinal cannabis for health reasons. How does cannabis benefit Matt? Matt responded,
How many of us can agree with Matt?

Clint Eastwood Wins Second Big Lawsuit Against CBD Industry
Tyson 2.0 Completes $9 Million Series A to Expand Celebrity Brand Portfolio
Russian expert at Griner’s trial discusses medical cannabis
Clint Eastwood, the 92-year-old actor, director, producer, and former mayor of Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, has won his second lawsuit against online marketers who used his likeness without permission.
ORANGE COUNTY, Calif., Tyson 2.0 ("The Company"), iconic boxer, entrepreneur and cannabis advocate Mike Tyson's cannabis brand, has taken the nation by storm by becoming a consumer favorite in over 20 US states and Canada since its launch late last year. In that time, Tyson 2.0 has sold over 4,000 pounds of cannabis flower across North America.
The drug trial of American basketball star Brittney Griner in a Russian court focused Tuesday on testimony that cannabis, while illegal in Russia, is regarded in other countries as having legitimate medicinal use.
He was joined in the suit by the company Garrapata, an agency which owns the rights to Eastwood’s name and image outside of movies. The latest verdict, which was handed down last week, awards Eastwood and Garrapata $2 million in damages. The claim was made against a Californiabased marketing company, Norok Innovation, which leveraged Eastwood’s celebrity status to drive online traffic—via a “hidden metatag game”—to a website selling CBD products. Fabricated news articles and manipulated search results made it appear as if Eastwood endorsed the products. The claim argued that these were “products he likely would have been unwilling to endorse in the first place.” “Like many of his most famous characters, Mr. Eastwood is not afraid to confront wrongdoing and hold accountable those that try to illegally profit off his name,” the suit, which was filed in January 2021. Eastwood’s reps pointed out that the screen icon rarely endorses any product. Indeed, the only time he has done so in recent memory, the Halftime in America Super Bowl ad for Chrysler in 2012, became a major news item. (Eastwood claimed he took a fee far lower than what was awarded him in this lawsuit, because he believed in that ad’s message.) In October last year, Eastwood and Garrapata won a $6.1 million dollar claim in a similar lawsuit against Mediatonas UAB, a Lithuanian company, which also featured false articles in which it appeared that the actor endorsed CBD products. Today, the Company announced the close of its oversubscribed $9 Million Series A round led by JW Asset Management. Additional investors in the round include K2, Ambria Capital, Tress Capital, and Patrick Carroll.. Tyson 2.0 Co-founder, President and Chairman, Chad Bronstein said, "Mike Tyson and our team believed early on that building high-quality cannabis brands and products backed by A-list celebrities would be a winning combination. Our model has shown early validation with robust sales and expansion of the brand to more than 20 states including several of the world's leading operators. The next step in our journey will require us to put more capital to work, and I couldn't think of a better set of partners than the group of investors we have assembled, highlighted by Jason Wild and the team at JW Asset Management." The raised funds will be used to acquire more celebrity intellectual property, scale marketing efforts, accelerate distribution, and further invest in the development of Tyson 2.0's house of brands strategy. "I've had the pleasure of working with and knowing Chad and Adam for many years. I am impressed with how quickly they have scaled the business becoming one of the leading national cannabis brands on the market today. With the ability to develop additional products from celebrities like Mike Tyson, Ric Flair, and more to come, I am confident the strong momentum can continue," said Jason Wild, President and Chief Investment Officer, JW Asset Management. Griner acknowledged in court earlier this month that she was carrying vape canisters containing cannabis oil when she was arrested in February at a Moscow airport. But she contends she had no criminal intent and that the canisters ended up in her luggage inadvertently because of hasty packing. “We are not arguing that Brittney took it here as a medicine. We are still saying that she involuntarily brought it here because she was in a rush,” defense attorney Alexander Boykov said after the hearing. Another member of Griner's defense team previously submitted a U.S. doctor’s letter recommending the basketball player use medical cannabis to treat pain. During Tuesday's court session, a Russian neuropsychologist testified about worldwide use of medicinal cannabis. “The Russian public has to know, and the Russian court in the first place has to know, that it was not used for recreational purposes in the United States. It was prescribed by a doctor,” lawyer Boykov said. A Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson said last week that the legalization of cannabis for medical and recreational use in parts of the U.S. had no bearing on what happens in Russia. Griner, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, pleaded guilty to drug possession charges at the second hearing of her trial, which started July 1. She faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted of transporting drugs.. The medical testimony and Griner's admission that she had the canisters were aimed at earning her a mild sentence. “We have a lot of mitigating factors. So we do hope that the court will take it into consideration. And the courts in Russia, in fact, have very broad discretion with regard to the sentence," said Maria Blagovolina, another of Griner's lawyers. Source: https://www.miamiherald.com/
A cannabis brand inspired by musician Jerry Garcia is set to launch in the Michigan market next month, corresponding with what would be the late Grateful Dead co-founder's 80th birthday. The Garcia Hand Picked line will launch in Michigan on Friday, Aug. 5 at Liberty Cannabis dispensaries in Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Madison Heights. Garcia Hand Picked will celebrate its Michigan launch from 2-7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 26 at Liberty Cannabis Madison Heights. (29600 Stephenson Hwy.) Garcia Hand Picked's Airstream trailer, dubbed "Bertha," will be on site, where fans can purchase exclusive Jerry Garcia memorabilia. There will also be vendors and food trucks in the "Shakedown Street"-style that Grateful Dead concerts have become known for. The brand is through a partnership between the Garcia estate and multi-state cannabis operator Holistic Industries. In a statement, Holistic Industries said says that Jerry Garcia rarely smoked weed by himself, instead preferring to share a joint, which "became a bridge between him and those around him." In that spirit, the line includes prerolls, offered in eco-friendly packaging made from recycled paper. Other Garcia Hand Picked products include flower and edibles shaped like guitar picks, each paired with a specially selected playlist of Garcia's music. More information is available at GarciaHandPicked.com. Garcia was born on Aug. 1, 1942 and died on Aug. 9, 1995. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. GRINDER ROLLING PAPERS
CRUTCH, CONE
(for the joint tip)
How to choose the right rolling paper Rolling papers come in a variety of materials, sizes, and thicknesses. When choosing a rolling paper, it is important to consider what kind of smoking experience you are looking for. For example, if you want a slow, smooth burn, you will want to choose thicker paper. Thicker papers will burn more slowly, but they can also be more difficult to roll and may produce more smoke. If you are looking for an organic smoking experience, you may want to choose a rolling paper made from hemp or rice. Some rolling papers even come flavored, so if that is something you are interested in, be sure to look for papers that are labeled as such. With so many options on the market, there is sure to be a rolling paper that is perfect for you.

STEP-BY-STEP ON HOW TO ROLL A JOINT 01.
Grinding the Cannabis
Grinding cannabis is an essential step in the smoking process. If you don't grind your weed, it will be difficult to roll a joint or pack a bowl. Additionally, properly ground cannabis allows for better airflow and burning, making your smoking experience more enjoyable. There are a variety of ways to grind cannabis, but the most important thing is to use a grinder that suits your needs. If you're smoking alone, a small, manual grinder will do the trick. However, if you're smoking with a group, you'll need a larger grinder that can handle a larger quantity of weed. Electric grinders are also available, but they can be more expensive and less portable than manual grinders. No matter what type of grinder you choose, make sure to clean it regularly to prevent the buildup of old cannabis residue. With a little practice, you'll be able to grind your weed like a pro!
02.
Create a crutch, filter, cone, or tip It's all the same
The use of crutches when smoking a joint can help to minimize the risk of burning your lips or inhaling tiny bits of marijuana. They also help to boost the airflow through a joint, making it easier to hit and hold. There are plenty of smoke shop dispensaries and convenient stores that carry pre-made crutched that can make it easier for you as well.
03.
Fill the rolling paper with cannabis
Place the crutch at one end of the paper now you should have enough marijuana sprinkled on the paper in line with the crutch. The marijuana should be evenly spread throughout the joint, and you should avoid overstuffing it. Once the paper has the right amount, usually about a halfgram to a full gram you can begin to form and shape the joint with your fingers.
71 AUGUST 2022
thechronicmagazine.com
04.
Roll the joint
Using your fingers shape the paper into a taco shape and roll the paper back and forth evenly to distribute the cannabis throughout the joint. Work the weed into a cylinder shape, not so loose that it will burn unevenly and not so tight that it will restrict airflow. To roll a joint, start by tucking the non-adhesive side of the paper over the weed. Then, slowly roll it towards the adhesive side, tucking in the bud as you go. Use your thumbs to roll and your index fingers to support the outside. If some weed falls out during the rolling process don't worry we will come back for it.
05.
Seal the joint
This is an important step in creating a quality joint. Make sure to tuck the unglued side of the paper into the roll, and then roll it up. Next, lick an edge of the glued side to tack down one end of the paper. Be sure to use just a little bit of moisture. Tip: Start with the crutch side because it can help guide the paper as it rolls around itself. Once the paper is tacked down on one end, you can work your way down the rest of the seam by tucking and sealing the joint. This step is key in ensuring a tight seal and a high-quality joint. Be sure to take your time and be precise in order to create a joint that will last.
06.
Pack the joint
Finally, that you have a good roll pick up any loose cannabis and put it into the top, opened end of the joint. Use a dab tool, pen, or similar object to pack down the cannabis towards the mouthpiece. Pinch the paper on the opened end and twist it together.
07.
Enjoy!
Now that you know how to roll a joint, it's time to enjoy your handiwork! But first, find that damn lighter! Light up and take a few puffs, letting the smooth smoke fill your lungs. Enjoy the taste and aroma of your joint, and savor the effects of the cannabis as they start to set in. Remember to take it slow at first, especially if you're new to smoking joints — you can always have another one later! PRO TIP: Roast the end of the joint a little before you light it by applying the flame to the end of the joint, and then spinning it with your index finger and thumb. This will ensure you get an even burn.
