Bringing Impact Home

College sweethearts, David and Lucinda Huffman laid down roots in Oklahoma City shortly after graduation, and 43 years later, they are still working to make their community a better place. As their children grew, they both found ways to give back and serve as leaders in the community — Lucinda through the Junior League, school organizations and chairing charity balls, and David as a board member for a number of charitable organizations.

Fostering their passion for improving the health care, education and general welfare of children, David became involved with the Children’s Hospital Foundation and later the Boys & Girls Clubs of than a decade, he was a powerful advocate for strengthening nonprofit boards across Oklahoma City, inspiring and gaining the trust of countless donors to increase their charitable contributions along the way.

A number of years after David and Lucinda set up a charitable gifting fund with Fidelity, David learned that the Oklahoma City Community Foundation could help them create impact closer to home. Equipped with local expertise and a newfound peace-of-mind, they transferred their fund to the Community Foundation in 2003.

Our donor advised fund really brings a great deal of order and paves the way for our giving,” David said, “I can go online and see who, how much and when I gave to an organization so I can consistently support that cause. It's really a win-win for us and for Oklahoma City.

In addition to recognizing the importance of regular giving for an organization, David and Lucinda also see the value in endowment and hope to one day grow their fund to a point where it can continue to impact future generations.
