TABUNSHCHYKOVA CASE STUDY CURTAIN HOUSE PROFESSOR GEORGE LIN SPRING 2021
CASE STUDY CURTAIN WALL HOUSE BY SHIGERU BAN GOAL The assignment consisted of two parts. The first part was to model existing Curtain Wall House by Shigeru Ban. The second part was to redesign any part of the building using Rhino technology.
WORK PROCESS The first part was straight forward. I created a floor by floor based on given AutoCAD drawings. Some parts of the building I modeled based on Google map images, because some information was missing.

FROM CURTAIN HOUSE TO LACE HOUSE REDESIGN PROCESS I found the idea of the curtain as wall poetic that is why I chose to reimagine the curtains of the building. I approached with two goals in mind. The first goal was to learn and apply the Grasshopper plugging in Rhino for my redesigned part. The second goal was to present a new vision of the curtain wall because the original curtain wall is not used as originally designed based on the Google map images. I chose the Voronoy pattern for my design because it is organic and contrasts with the boxy and angular shape of the building. On the first floor I created opaque and translucent partitions within a new “curtain wall” for privacy purposes in contrast to the second and third floors that are transparent. The red color of the glass was chosen to add playful light into the space.

I rendered images using Twinmotion. In addition to images I created a video that shows the transformation.
