A Vision for Growth Welcome to CISV’s very first Global Conference! The primary purpose of the Global Conference is to motivate and inspire our amazing Chapter volunteers, and to promote the sharing of new ideas and best practices. With our presenters, we have developed exciting sessions and activities that will give you information and tools that you can take away and use in your Chapter. The Global Conference will also be a great networking opportunity and a place to make new friends from around the CISV world. Why is the Global Conference all about our Chapters? We believe that CISV is only as strong as our Chapters, and the volunteers who dedicate so much time and energy to their success. They are the very foundation of CISV, and if we are to flourish and grow we must celebrate and support their work. The Global Conference is also an important way for you to be able to make your voice heard! As well as the chance to get a more complete understanding of CISV you will get the opportunity to help shape the future of the organization. Last but not least, the Global Conference will be a great, fun social occasion and we look forward to seeing you there!

Language of Growth CISV is looking for a shared understanding of what we mean by ‘growth’. As part of this process we have developed a standard language for speaking about growth and we have used this language to help shape the content of the Global Conference. We want to support our Chapters to grow in terms of four areas, or ‘strands’, which we believe are essential to their good health and strength: • Foundation • Resources • Profile • Impact What do we mean by these words, which you will hear a lot at the Global Conference? The definitions and some examples tell you more.

IMPACT

How well we achieve our mission.

Programme execution & efficacy, working with Like Minded Organizations and Non-Governmental Organizations to create local impact, understanding of educational content, hosting & sending delegates to International programmes, diversity in membership.

while many of these examples can easily fit within multiple strands, we have sought to select where it fits best.

As you read through this brochure, you will see the sessions are identified by the area or strand we think it fits in best. This will help you to pick your sessions based on the growth needs of your Chapter and for your personal development.

Conference Overview There is a lot to learn and do at our inaugural Global Conference! For many of you, this will be your first time attending an international CISV event! For others, who may have attended Annual International Meetings or other events in the past, some of this may seem familiar but a lot of it will be NEW! In addition to great guest speakers, we also have plans for a panel of distinguished CISV alumni, over 40 educational sessions, Mosaic projects, a profile raising activity, evening events, opportunities to network and so much more! We also have sessions planned so you get the most out of the Global Conference to help you and your Chapter! In order to help you prepare and select your sessions, we wanted to tell you a little bit about the different session types, which are colour coded for easy reference.

ASK We invite you to reflect on what attitudes, skills, and knowledge (ASKs) you would like to gain from the Global Conference: Attitudes - New ideas and perspectives… “I want to understand...” Skill - New practices, strategies, or processes… “I want to be able to...” Knowledge - New information and tools… “I want to know...”

Guest Speakers (Pink) We are excited to have two amazing guest speakers confirmed: Jeremy Gilley, founder of Peace One Day, will spend the entire first day with us, presenting both a plenary session and a second session for those who want the chance to ask Jeremy questions. More details to come! We also have the honour of hosting a screening of the film ’I am Eleven‘ followed by a question and answer session with the film’s producer, Genevieve Bailey. Some of you will have heard of Genevieve, as she has worked closely with a number of NAs to promote her film. We have also finalised the list of distinguished CISV alumni who will share how their CISV experiences have helped them achieve significant impact in their careers...read more about them in this brochure!

Educational Sessions (Blue) We have a total of 31 unique educational sessions, each accommodating between 10-100+ people. They will be facilitated by a group of amazing CISVers, who will be sharing their knowledge and experience and providing you with tips and tools you can take home to your Chapter. We don’t want you to miss out, so many sessions are offered more than once, and those that are only offered once are big enough to accommodate all who wish to attend! Each session has been identified with the strand, or area of growth, that it supports. We know everyone won’t be able to get to everything, but we will do our best to ensure you get to those sessions that are most important to you.

CISV International will organize a General Members Meeting during the Conference. This meeting will involve a roll call, specific business that must be conducted at each Global Conference, along with decisions that need to be made regarding any submitted motions. Although all National Association Representatives are not expected to attend the conference, each NA should ensure they are represented in this Member’s meeting. If a National Association Representative is unable to attend the Meeting, the National Association may appoint a new National Association Representative. If no one from the NA can act as the NA Representative, a proxy can be assigned to another NA Representative in attendance. To aid in decision-making, motions will be publicised in advance of the Global Conference and the other sessions hosted by the Governing Board will provide additional information. JBers attending the International Junior Branch Conference (IJBC) should plan to attend these sessions, but they are open to everyone.

IJBC is the annual gathering of CISV International’s Junior Branch. The meeting aims at connecting Junior Branches worldwide, working on common projects, participating in workshops and trainings and making decisions on the future of Junior Branch. These sessions are still in the process of being finalised, so are only listed by number at this time but will include the threads of Link, Look Ahead and Learn. IJBC attendees are expected to attend these sessions, but they will be open to all delegates who wish to attend. If you don’t register for IJBC sessions now and there is a session that interests you later, we’ll make sure to accommodate you once the topics are announced. Please note that IJBC sessions start earlier, so please plan to arrive on time.

Social Activities (Red) Evening activities are open to all and will involve lots of fun, inspiring stories and opportunities to get to know each other!

Other Sessions (Orange) We have offered Mosaic activities, being arranged by CISV Norway, and an Open Forum for those who want to have some time for general discussions about challenges and opportunities within your Chapters. These are planned alongside other sessions to give you a choice. As well, there are plenary sessions designed to help you make the most of your Global Conference experience! A009 Programme Expert Forum: An open-format session to meet programme experts, ask questions and learn.

Presented by: Impact

Alex Neuman / Frank Nefos & Others!

The purpose of this session is to give Global Conference delegates an easy opportunity to meet programme experts in order to ask questions, discuss issues and share experiences related to specific programmes. It will be loosely structured; each programme will have 2 or more programme experts who will sit at a “station”. Session participants will move between stations, sitting at tables with the programme experts and other curious participants. Through the process participants will get answers to their own specific questions, have the opportunity to discuss issues or concerns and share experiences, benefitting from the knowledge of the programme experts and the perspectives of other participants.

Presented by: Impact

Rachel Kuck / Eetu Anttonen

This is your opportunity to think outside the box! In this session, participants will have the opportunity to brainstorm ideas that could be implemented in programmes internationally (such as: what if there was an IPP for people 30+?). A016 Money, Money, Money.

Presented by: Resources

Graeme Munro

For those with financial management responsibilities within their NA / Chapters, this workshop will focus on money management principles and what you need to consider. A022-2 Five Steps to Score Better Grades in Recruiting and Retaining - CISV Costa Rica

Presented by: Resources

Rónald Córdoba Mendoza

Back in 2007, CISV Costa Rica experienced a serious decrease in the amount of people who wanted to take part of our programmes, both participants and volunteers. We found out we had been recycling the same old system over and over again, making it hard to apply and to inspire those few volunteers to stay with us after their great camp experience. We decided to take action, and start by figuring out why this was happening, what were we doing wrong, what was worth keeping and what need to be changed ASAP. And so we did!!! Today, we come to share with you some important signs, tips, and tools that might be helpful for your Chapter to renew.

A029 People Power

Presented by: Profile

Presented by: Resources

Mae Cooper / Andrea Brockman

This session starts with the idea that increasing diversity in CISV is not about hastily attempting to bring more people who are “not like us” into our organizational spaces, but first doing the work needed to make our organizational spaces more safe and welcoming for more diverse groups of people. Combining accessible approaches to important social issues with dynamic techniques for reflection and discussion, participants will be challenged to think and act differently around diversity and developing our Chapters .

Jen Devolder / Lynn Faris

A032 Breaking the Networking Barriers

Presented by: Impact

Presented by: Profile

Abeer Mohamed / Ramy J. Tadros

This session will review the importance of an IPP for a Chapter, NA, CISVers, CISV as a whole. IPPs are one of the ways CISV challenges the status quo for its participants and community, now how do we make the best of it? How do we decide who/where to help? How do we set it up to ensure its a two exchange rather than IPPers as man power? These are some of the points/topics this session aims to address and explore.

Tamara Thorpe / Denise Farrar

Jeremy Gilley After a successful career acting in film and television, Jeremy began making films in 1995 and in 1999 founded the non-profit organization, Peace One Day to document his efforts to establish the first ever annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence with a fixed date. In September 2001, as a result of Jeremy’s efforts, a General Assembly resolution was unanimously adopted by UN member states, establishing 21 September as an annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence on the UN International Day of Peace – Peace Day. To prove the day can work, Jeremy and Peace One Day Ambassador Jude Law travelled to Afghanistan to spearhead a campaign that, over the years, has resulted in 4.5 million children being vaccinated against polio, as a result of Peace Day agreements in the region. Peace One Day’s objective is to institutionalise Peace Day around the world, making it self-sustaining. In 2014, through detailed analysis conducted with the support of McKinsey & Company, the Peace One Day 2014 report found that, across the world, an estimated 610 million people were aware of Peace Day 2014 – 9% of the world’s population. Jeremy has a target of reaching 3 billion people with the message of Peace Day by 21 September 2016; a target made all the more realistic following a donation of $10 million by the Howard G. Buffett Foundation. Jeremy was awarded the Lennon-Ono Grant for Peace 2014 in Reyjkavik. On 19th October 2011 Jeremy was awarded the IVCA Fellowship. On 1 December 2010 Jeremy and Peace One Day were awarded the CarnegieWateler Peace Prize at The Hague. Other awards include: Cinema for Peace 2009 – Most Inspirational Movie of the Year (The Day After Peace); Geneva Cinema Vérité – Cinema Vérité Award (The Day After Peace); Zimbabwe International Film Festival – Best Documentary Award (The Day After Peace); Britain’s Best Award 2008 (Campaigner of the Year); IVCA Clarion Award Winner 2008 – Champion Award; Jeremy was the recipient of the James Hammerstein Award 2006. Jeremy is the author of a children’s book The Making Of World Peace Day, illustrated by Pulitzer Prize-winner Karen Blessen, published by G.P.Putnam’s Sons, a division of Penguin Young Readers Group.
