Sinlge Room Design

4

For this project, each person was given the job to create their aesthetic on a small table. They were given the freedom to do whatever they wanted with the exception that it had to reflect their personal aesthetic. We switched tables and had to create a specific room in a house that incorporated the given table. We had to bring that aesthetic to life within the room while adding our own personal touch. We made floor plans, hand drafted and digital, along with a board that had fabric and other materials in the space.

I had a bathroom designed around the table I was given. Her aesthetic was modern and simple, however my table was busy with a bright color. Her’s used greys, blacks and whites to make the master bathroom with gold accents. The digital created our vision that came to life and looked realistic. Lots of lighting was put into the room to help keep it bright with the darker colors. I have improved a lot since this project and it taught me many things I needed to know for further projects.

Working With a Client

For this project, two people were given a teacher that wanted assistance redesigning their dream room. Miss Dupree told us she wanted a “getting ready room so she could have her own private space to relax and get ready. We designed both a hand drafted and digital floor plan. It had to be furnished with items in her budget that matched her ideas. We also made a spreadsheet of where all the products are easily accessible to her and how much each item costs.

It was crucial to have the digital floor plan renderings especially for a client who is trying to envision what they want for their space. They are important to make sure that the room was easily seen and imagine it being created in real life. Miss Dupree wanted navy, black and white with gold accents for her room. We had to keep that in mind but, I wanted to keep the space feel open so we had to pick wisely on what decorations should be what color. Because it is a small space, an open concept it needed to utilize every inch.

3D Model & Sample Board For this project, each person in our group created a floor plan for a single room that all came together to form a house. Each room was a little different in layout but had the same furnishings and decorations in each room. Everyone made their section of the house individually and put their own aesthetics into their work. We built a 3D model out of foam board to show a scale of what the house would look like in three dimensional form. Then we created a sample board that had the colors, fabrics, textures and flooring of each room in the house.

The 3D model was something fun and different from anything we’d ever done. It was hands on and precise because it was all hand made. It was cool to build from scratch and watch it turn into a home. We had to fill the whole board and designed it however we desired. I liked making the sample board a lot as I learned which better prepared me for my final project. There was learning curve with making both 3D models because it a trial and error.

Dream Home

For this part of the project, we created a mood board and a sample board. We made the mood board first to give us inspiration for our project. All of us had different ideas and different aesthetic that were portrayed on our mood board. Then we created a sample board for that had the colors, fabrics, textures and flooring for each room in the house. It shows you what the aesthetic is for each room and in the home. So you have a sense of what the room looks like from a design perspective.

My mood board has a lot of nature aspects. Since my dream home is in the mountains, on a lake, I incorporated lots plants and scenery photos. It is modern but colorful and pleasing to look at. My sample board was very full but was still organized with everything that would be in each room. On the next page will talk about the interior of these rooms. I love how it looks and the way it was all laid out. The sample board has a lot of different aesthetics within it but it all comes together and represents a compatible space.

Dream Home

For the other part of the project, we created a hand drafted and a digital floor plan. For the hand drafted floor plan, we drew the rooms in our dream home with it furnished. While the hand drafted is 2D, to provide more dimension we did a digital floor plan. Then we took renderings of each room in the house it brings it to life. It shows what the 3D version of our dream home would look like. Using a digital floor plan helps non-designers see what we envisioned in our heads for the space.

With each rendering of the rooms, I have pictures of furniture and decorations that are in the space. I have three floors included in my dream home. It was a lot of work with having many rooms in my house. It may of been a challenge but my boards turned out good and well organized. I really loved this project, it brought together everything we’ve learned this year and it gave us an opportunity to create everything ourselves. I proved to myself that I have what it takes to hopefully be an interior designer.

Helping a Friend

14

This was not a project that was assigned to the class but I helped my best friend design her room for her dads house. She gave me the dimensions of the room I made a digital floor plan. I made rendering and showed her the 3D vision on homestyler. She was designing it from scratch and asked for my help. We looked at the different furniture and designed it together. At the moment, she is in the process of creating her room at his house.

I wanted to add this to my presentation because I got to help someone who is in my everyday life, create the space they wanted. She gave a lot of her input because I wanted to make sure the space represented her well and was what she envisioned. It was not a long project but it was fun to help my best friend and it felt amazing that she came to me for my help.
