Complimentary Various shades within a contrast/complementary color scheme, and their mutual contrast. Complementary is a color scheme using one base color and its complement, the color on the exact opposite side of the color wheel.
Triadic
Comprised of three colors evenly spaced on the color wheel. The two most basic triadic palettes are the primary colors red, blue, and yellow and the secondary hues orange, purple, and green.
Monochromatic Describes a single base hue with white or black added to create different shades and tones. Basically the same color but different values. An example could be a fully blue color scheme.
Neutral A color that acts as a subtle background hue, which can easily be layered with other stronger colors. It can be anything from light neutrals, such as cream and white, to darker shades, like brown and black.
Accented Neutral Accented Neutral color schemes include neutral colors, along with one or more splashes of colors found on the color wheel. An example could be a black background with a splash of red.
Analogous Colors next to one another on the color wheel. Red, orange, and red-orange are examples. The term analogous refers to having analogy, or corresponding to something in particular.
Split Complimentary One base color and two secondary colors. Instead of using a complementary color, two colors placed symetrically around it on the color wheel are used.
Tetrad Four colors with a logical relationship on the color wheel. There is no clear dominance of one color. An example of this would be red, green, orange, and blue.
Complmentary Triad Two Complementary hues with a third color which is halfway between the other colors. This should only use half the color wheel. Each row shows a different complementary triad.
Analogous Complimentary A main color, complementary color of the main color, and two colors directly next to the compliment or main color. Two examples of analogous complementary color schemes are shown.
