Georgian Style Georian style homes are ofen characterized by their rigid symmetry. Along with this they are also known for their decorative window headers. As well as their entrance embellishments like arched tops or pediments. Georgian styled homes are also known for their roofs. There are usually many windows as well as multiple chimneys to make the house look as symmetrical as possible.


Federal Style Federal style homes are simple boxes that are two or three stories high, and two or three rooms deep. These homes usually show off simple geometiacal features and do not show many embellishments. Windows are normally arranged in horizontal and vertical symmetry. The most decorated area of the exterior of a federal style home is usually the front door or enterance.


Greek Revival Style Many greek revival home contain large symmetrical coloumns in the front of the house. Many of these homes are symmetrical and are at least two levels high. In these homes the chimney is placed as far back as possible to make it look most like a greek temple as possible. There tends to be a window above the coloumns in the front. These homes tend to look very important based on their exterior.


Italianate Style The italiantae archetecture style is very blocky. These homes normaly have a flat roof with an overhang. They have windows that are horizontally symmetrical. These homes were modeled after the medevil countryside homes.


Victorian Style Victorian styles homes are normally two to three stories and are largeer than others. They are made of wood or stone on the exterior. They have decorated trim as well as an asymmetrical shape. One story porches and towers are also very common in these style homes.


Prarie Style Prarie homes are late 19th century- early 20th century architectural style. These homes are very common in the midwest. They appear to grow out of the ground with a low pitched overhanging hipped or gable roof. They often have a very open floor plan.


Craftsman Style Craftsman style homes usually have a triangular overhanging roof. This gives the homes a covered porch with pillars lining the entry. These homes also have double hangng windows that have seperate panes of glass on the top and bottom.


Ranch Style Ranch style homes are one story homes that are have an open and casual layout. The shape is normally a “U” or “L” shape. There are many different types of ranch hoses including raised ranch, split-level ranch, suburban ranch, and more.


Shed Style Shed style homes are know for their asymetrical shape and discontinuity. The strong lines of the multiple roofs give these houses a unique and original look. They are usually two to three stories homes. Shed style homes have the outdoor feel and are usually not located in a city, and instead in a less populated area.


A-Frame Style A-Frame homes have sharp angled roofs that form the shape of the letter “A” of the entire home. The interior of these homes are usually very open with many windows on the 2 sides that aren’t a part of the triangular roof. A-Frame houses reduce pressure of buildup on the roof as well as keep the house cooler since most of the living area is on the lowest floor.


Geodesic Style Geodesic style homes are spherical homes that look have polygonal planes that connect together to form the unique shape of these homes. This syle most closely resembles a jungle gym. The interior of geodesic homes is very open and there are very few walls.
