Architectural Styles from 1700 Ariana Harland
Georgian This style was very popular during the 1700-1780 time period. It is very elegant and was popular among Americans who had money and were wealthy. it has many chimneys and is ususally 2-3 stories tall.
Federal This style is 2-3 rooms deep and the exterior of the house is a simple square or rectangualar shape and has many windows and shutters. It was popular during the American Revolution.
Adam Style This style is 3 stories tall and the houses are long and really close together. There are many windows on the exterior of the home and they are usually very long.
Early Classical Revival This style and home is usualy made of brick and have many windws that contain shutters and have pilasters that decorate the front entrance.
Italicanate This style usually contains roofs that are red and flat. The roofs are also a square shape.
Victorian This style was popualar in teh 19th century and is very elegantly decorated on the exterior. The rofs are tall and European inspired.
Colonial Revival This style usually contains pilasters and has three decroative windows on the roof. It was popular in the 18th and 19th ceturies.
Frank Loyd Wright This style was popular during 1900-1920. This style home is meant to feel like a part of nature and is usually made of wood and feels very earthy.
Craftsman This style is popular to use in the suuburbs and the roofs are a triangular shape and usually has decroative pillars by the front entrance.
Ranch Style This style was popular during the 1950’s and 60’s. It is flat and is good for one family to live in. Thui style was popualr after World War II when fanilies started to grow.
Shed Style This style was popular in the 1960’s and was designed by Charles Moore and Robert Venturi. The roofs on these homes are very abstract and have many diferent levels.
A-Frame This style home is usually built in places where it snows and is cold so teh weight of the snow does not weigh down teh roof. It is not a good place to raise a family.
Geodesic This style is shaped as a done and less building materials are needed and is good for only one person. Since it is smaller heat loss is minimized.
Greek Revival This style has pilasters taht decorate the exterior of the home and has a triangualr roof in the front. It was popular during the 18th and 19th century.
