Georgian Style

The Georgian style was popular in the 1700s-1800s. It is a very elegant and expensive style. It is also symmetrical and usually includes pillars in the design.

Federal Style

The federal style was named in honor of the federal government and often looks similar to the White House. Most of the time, it is a simple square design with two or three stories. It’s also usually two rooms deep.

Greek Revival Style

The Greek Revival style is a style that gained popularity by exploring parallels between an earlier culture and the present day. Usually contains homes that are painted white with hip or gable roofs. They also have decorative windows and columns in the front.

Italianate Style

The Italianate style contained roofs that were low pitched and hip. The windows were narrow spaced and the homes consisted of curved archways. This style is very elaborate and fancy.

Victorian Style

The Victorian Style contained lots of color and often looked like gingerbread houses. They are a symbol of the rich and contain elaborate furnishings. They are very symmetrical and look feminine with floral patterns.


Colonial Revival Style

Chandelier: $400

Stove/ oven: $450 Island: $340 The Colonial Revival style is a mix of federal, saltbox, and cape cod styles mixed together. Usually a medium pitch, side-gable roof , but hip roofs are occasionally seen. Homes with this style are symmetrical and contain windows and sometimes pillars.

Prairie Style

The Prairie style was created by Frank Lloyd Wright and was popular from 1900-1920. They are usually one story and look very neutral. They tend to blend in with nature and are often found in the woods/country.

Craftsman Style

The Craftsman style is cozy, often with shingle siding and stone details. They usually have a gable or hip roof and are very decorative. They are not symmetrical.

Ranch Style

The Ranch style was popular in the 1950s and 1960s. They are one story and expansive. They make good family homes.

Shed Style

The Shed style was created in the 1960s by Charles Moore and Robert Venturi. They contain single roofs that are asymmetrical and angled. The houses themselves are not symmetrical.

A-Frame Style

The A-Frame style is a triangular shaped house with a continuous gable roof. They are not suitable for a family because they can’t expand. The houses look like the letter A.

Geodesic Style

The Geodesic style is a dome shaped house that looks like a geometric figure. Buildings or roofs have been constructed out of geodesic domes that range from 5-100% of a sphere. Geodesic domes are efficient structures in several ways.
