Architetural Styles From 1700


Georgian This style was popular in the 1700-1780’s. It is elegatn adn formal balancced. The house is symmetrical in it’s layout. The front of the house has big pedimants and columns inspired by Greek and Roman temples.


Federal This style is was popular from the 1785-1815’s. IT is ver simple in it’s design and is very rectangular. This style evolved form the Georgian style.


Greek Revival This style was popular in the first half of the 19th Century. It is very light in it’s color and was bassed off of the Greek Temples. It has big columns/ pillars out front of the house.


Italianate his style can be found around California. It started in Britian. It is very square and has a mixture of HIP and GABLE roofs..


Victorian This style is very busy and stands out. The roof is slanted and then comes to a flat surface at the top. It can be muliple stories.


Colonial Revival This style is mostly associated with houses, churches, and government buildings. It was popular in the 19th century. It usually has chimneys on both sides.


Prairie This style is a one story style. It is meant to blend in with nature and not stand out. It usually has flat or hipped roofs.


Craftsman This style is mostly found in California. It is very popular today. It is usualy a 2 story house and is good for a family house.


Ranch This one story house was built for growing families. It has an open layout which is good for large families. It was popular in th e1960-1970’s.


Shed This design style is known for it’s roof. It has an angular roof that is seperated.The roof should not meet at one point.


A-Frame This style is shaped like an A. Hints the name A- Frame. This style is not good for expanding families because the house it’s self can not be expanded.


Geodesic This sstyle is known for it’s dome shape roof. The roof is made up of triangular pieces fit together to form it’s shape. It was developed in the 20th century.
