Architectual Styles From 1700


Georgian Style This style is from the 1700’s-1780’s. This style house was usually only for the wealthy people. They usually had chimneys and they are 2-3 stories tall. Usually had a hip roof and many windows.


Federal Style This style usually contained bricks usually. It was typically 2-3 stories tall and 2 rooms deep. This

house is a box or rectangular shape, very simple style.


Greek Revival The houses were usually painted white, like marble. The details were usually pretty bold but yet still simple. Wood and occansionally stone was used. There are usually a couple of pillars used too.


Italianate This style came from Italy. This style usually consists of being 2 stories, but multiple people ususally add on another 3rd story to the house. This style usually had brick and wood, with low roofs and 5-10 windows.


Victorian This style ususally has multiple stories, with many steps. They are very narrow and tall, with towers. This style has very large windows. The key characteristic of this style is the mansard roof.


Colonial Revival This style is typically 2 stories with a gabled roof. Its a rectangular shape, very simple house. Top of the house, by the roof, usually has windows with a triangular wooded boarder. Shingles and bricks are used, many windows.


Prairie Came from Frank Lloyd Wright in the 1900-1920. It was influenced by Arts and Craft design. It is usually one story and has art glass and small windows.


Craftsman This style usually has a porch, with supports that dont really support too much but are there for the look. It has a low roof and triangular brackets. Inside the house, the beams are exposed.


Ranch This style is only one story. Its usually painted whites and blues, and is plain and simple. This house style is a long house because there is only one story, It has an open layout and is very close to the ground.


Shed This style of house has very large windows. Very steep roofs and can be different stories and sizes. Has very unique geometric shapes to the style.


A-Frame Is a triabgular type of house, very modern. Usually has a chimney and is one story. Has very wide and large windows, many windows.


Geodesic This house style is not very popular because of the layout. Depending on the house, there could be multiple windows or very little windows. The house is usually one story tall and is a dome, half a circle. Wood and brick is used fir this style house.
