Job Description Industrial Design is the practice of designing products used by millions of people all across the globe. Industrial Designers not only care about the apperance and asthetic of the product, but also the function and value it provides for the consumer.

A concepts for a new product will start as several skectches and eventually a 3D rendering will be made. Industrial designers will then collaborate with mechanical engineers, material scientists, manufacturers and branding strategists to bring their ideas to life through production.


Get Educated What it takes to to become an industrial designer

Entry-level positions for industrial designers require a bachelor’s degree in industrial design, engineering, architecture or a similar field. Hopefull industrial designers must have basic art and design skills upon entering the design program.


Job Opportunities

After graduation studetns have to opportunity to enter positions in design, manufacturing and architectural firms. Possible career paths could include Automobile designers, Bank note designers, Bicycle designers, Car body designers, and Ceramic designers.

Salaries

A study by BLS in May 2015 found the median annual wage for industrial and commercial designers was $67,130. The lowest starting income has been set at an average of $37,630 while the highest-paid average for production type managers can reach annual salaries as high as $104,730 or more.


Design Process S K E TC H The industrial design process typically starts with an idea or a problem that a company or entrepreneur wants to fix or execute. They then draw several sketches of there ideas. After the designer is set on a drawing, they will create either a 3D rendering or a model drawing of the product. In these pages it is typical to include the function of the product as well as the materials that will be used to create the final product.

vision industrial designers will show investors or management possible variations to there design such as color and size. The last step of this process is manufacturing the product which is the goal.


Innovative Designs

Many products created by industrial designers aren’t typically new prodects. Mostly, designers will reinvent or reimagine something that already exsists making it more aesthetically pleasing or eco-friendly. For example, this tea infuser or even new shoes from Nike and Addidas. To bring thier ideas to life industrial designers use programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, SolidWorks, and AutoCAD. This gives people an almost life like rendering of what the final product could look like.
