Architectural Styles Corbin Bassham


Georgian Georgian style houses are completely symmetrical. They are usually made out of brick. Length and width are always in proportion to one another.


Federal Federal style homes are similar to Georgian homes. They are box-like and are symmetrical. These homes are two or three stories high and two rooms deep.


Greek Revival Greek Revival style homes take elements from Greek architecture. They are all white and have pillars on the front side.


Italianate Italianate homes have flat roofs. Some arches are incorporated in windows and doorways. They also have wide overhanging roofs.


Victorian Victorian homes are meant to display wealth. They have lots of detail and different shapes put into them. Many also have a small turret included in the home.


Prairie Prairie style homes are long and only have one level. The roofs are low pitched with long overhangs. There are often long windows across the house.


Craftsman Craftsman homes have porches with thick, tapering columns. They typically have low pitched roofs and triangular brackets Sometimes beams are left exposed on the porch.


Ranch Ranch homes are long one-story homes. These homes have low pitched roofs. There are usually large windows on the front of the house.


Shed Shed style homes have lots of single sloped roofs in many different directions. The roofs are also placed at different pitches.


A-Frame A-Frame homes are a shape of an “A�. The roofline begins at or near the ground at a steep angle. Windows usually fill the remaining two sides.


Geodesic Geodesic style homes are spherical in which shapes make up the roof. Some of the shapes can be windows. These homes are highly resistant to weather and can maintain temperature well.
