Rosemary Designs - The Beginning
This assignment was to create a moodboard based on the Interior Design firm of our making. Mine is called Rosemary Designs, named after my great grandma and aunt. They both love (and loved) creativity and uniqueness and color which is what I strived to embody in my moodboard. I used the color combination of teal, orange, pink and yellow to give a youthful yet classy look, and used fabric swatches to show what would be used in a space.
One Room Re-Model
This project was to take one existing room in your house, and to remodel it based off of designs found in the Parade of Homes and Restoration Hardware. I loved the geometric designs and moderns silhouettes that I saw in these houses and used that as my main inspration. I added new flooring, lighting fixtures, paint and wallpaper, and new furniture to reflect the modern aesthetic I was trying to achieve. I also loved the Complementary and Accented neautral color schemes so I embodied that by using teal, yellow, black, and white. I also drew inspiration from modern art and some industrial aspects for the gray concrete floor. I also added some succulents for some home-y touches.
Minimalism 3-D Model and Material Board
For this project, we designed a home and then chose two rooms to design and find materials for. I chose the master bedroom and the master bathroom. This page is focused on the Bathroom, and the page following this will be focused on the bedroom. I have always loved the modern aesthetic in bathrooms. It looks clean and sophisticated, even in the smallest of spaces with the smallest of budgets. I chose mostly white and black, with gray-blue and yellow accents throughout the space. Recently, I have been loving this type of hexagonal tile. It looks so pretty and it can make a statement without standing out. I used this for the back wall od the shower and for a backsplash above the sink. As for the flooring, I used a mahogany hardwood and a faux fur rug for a juxtaposition of textures. I also added a large mirror above the sink to open up the space. Plants are a great way to add comfort to a space, so I added some succulents and some haning plants. And as for lighting, I love natural light in a bathroom so there would be skylights throughout as well as wall sconces above the sink for the nighttime.
Comfy and Cozy 3-D Model and Material Board
For this portion of the project, I designed the master bedroom of the house we created. For this room, I was inspired by pinks and teals with accents of yellow to give a comfy and cute aesthetic. Lots of fuzzy blankets, soft pillows, and a cozy atmosphere. For the flooring, I used a very neautral oak wood that would not draw away from the color pallete of the room. As for the walls, I would use a soft white for 3 walls and a soft pink for an accent wall. I have been absolutely loving accent walls lately, so I just knew I needed one. For the bedding I would use lots of cozy and comfy textures to create an inviting atmosphere. And for the lighting, I would use a chandelier over the bed and lots of windows to create an atmosphere of warmth and happiness.
Accessibility: Bathroom for the Visually Impaired Personally I really loved this project. We met with a visually impaired client and they asked for a bathroom remodel using bright pastel colors. I jumped at the chance. I realized that all of my color schemes had an intense similarity to one another so this was a good chance to get out of my comfort zone. and to explore different color and design options. The client specifically requested a walk in tub/ shower, and lots of natural lighting throughout the space. I accessorized the tub by adding a glass pane partition to add privacy but also as a landmark so the client knows where the tub and shower are. I also added fuzzy non-slip rugs in front of the tub, the sink, the toilet, and the door to act as landmarks as well. I added lots of lighting to open up the space. I used skylights above the shower area and sink, as well as wall sconces for the nighttime. The client also told me about their love for flowers, so I was sure to add lots of lavender and roses and daisys. As for the flooring, I used a simple stone to not distract from the rugs.
Classy A Teen Dream Lounge Space
For our final project, we designed our “teen dream space” using a 10x10 room that we could later have the opportunity to design in real life. I used a clean and juxtoposition of modern and vintage aesthetics to create my final room. I loved the primary color scheme of muted red, blue, and yellow so of course I utilized it heavilily in my space. I also added the monochromatic black and white to break up the heavy colors. I used inspiration from Restoration Hardware and the homes we saw at the Parade of Homes to tie it around again. I used big comfy couches and chairs to truly make the space a “lounge space” and added lots of comfy pillows and blankets. Underneath, I layered a modern rug and a more vintage rug to really tie the two styles together. I also added various entertainment such as an XBOX 1 and a Playstation 4, as well as a large TV and record player. For the walls I used muted blue and white tones to not distract from the art. As for lighting, I used a large Restoration Hardware chandelier to tie it all together. This was one of my most favorite designs and spaces and it truly paid off.
Thank you! Thank you so much for reviewing my portfolio! It truly means a lot to me. I hope I did well. I would like to thank all of the lovely people in Interior Design 11 for encouraging me and for helping me along the way. I would also like to thank my teacher and mentor, Mrs. Schwartz, for helping me realize my true potential and to pursue a career in Interior Design. And to everyone reading this, thank you too!
