Palm Sunday Potluck This Evening We will have our Palm Sunday Potluck this evening at 6:00 PM. Our special guests will be those who have joined our church since last Palm Sunday. We encourage everyone to come and then stay for our Holy Week Service at 7:30 PM.

HOLY WEEK AND EASTER THE HOSANNA “The Hosanna” is a traditional hymn of the Moravian Church which is sung on the first Sunday of Advent and on Palm Sunday. The word “Hosanna” means “save us.” When Jesus rode into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, the people were shouting, “Hosanna!” to Jesus, or in other words, “Jesus, save us!” The significance of “hosanna” is also carried to Christmas as we welcome the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. “The Hosanna” is sung antiphonally (one part echoing the other). The Olivet Children’s Chorus will sing the first part and the congregation the second part (the words in bold). The music is found on page 239.

CROWN OF THORNS The Crown of Thorns, which is displayed at the front of the Sanctuary, represents the last weeks of Jesus’ life here on earth. The thorns represent the suffering that Jesus went through for us. The seven candles represent the last seven weeks of His life. All the candles are lit. On the first Sunday in Lent, one candle is extinguished. This procedure is followed until the last candle is extinguished at our Good Friday lovefeast. The extinguishing of candles usually takes place at the end of the service by a senior person, as one who is in the twilight of life. On Easter Sunday, there is a new wreath of spring flowers with the Christ Candle burning before and during the service. No one extinguishes the candle during the service. This represents the everlasting light of Jesus in this world.

Holy Week Services Begin Tonight Holy Week Services will begin tonight and continue through Friday evening at 7:30 PM. There will also be a Crucifixion Service on Friday afternoon at 2:30 PM. During Holy Week we will read the account of Jesus’ last week before His crucifixion and resurrection. We will have Holy Communion on Thursday and Lovefeast on Good Friday.
